Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
Speaking of Booker, it's fortunate that he's such an offensive force because the dude doesn't really ever pass the ball. If he does it's a bailout that puts a teammate in a bind. He could have more dimes given how much time he has with the ball. Somebody's gotta be open when he drives into the crowded paint. Giannis had twice as many dimes, as many points, and took 10 shots less.

Nobody said it would be easy. Remember my team lost 8 straight Championship series to the Celtics. You have to feel that visceral ache before you smell the roses.Alieberman wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 3:05 pmWhere the hell were you for games 3-5?EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 3:02 pm I’m rooting hard against the Bucks. I’m telling you the Suns will win this series. And then you will genuflect in my direction.

Will my visceral ache from losing to Stanford get my Cats a women's basketball national championship someday?

Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
I have vivid memories of suns players and coaching thinking game 6 was in the bag when it was like a 4 pt lead with under a minute left against the Bulls. They thought they were heading into game 7 at home, but obviously Jordan had other plans.Longhorned wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 11:25 am
Yeah but UofAlum05 means that the fans caused the loss. People who grew up Suns fans believe that a team's losses stem from divine interventions responding to their fanbase's confidence, and transfer that belief to other teams we root for.
Also, Phoenix Suns fans relate to being down 3-2 in a series in terms of a game 6 exit, rather than how other teams have beaten the Suns in 7 when the Suns went up 3-2 (Sonics in 1979, Rockets twice in the 90s). Pulling through is something that only other teams do to the Suns.
I haven't been a big nba fan or watcher in the last decade plus after being a big fan thru the 90s and this series has reminded me of why. The refs. They totally give stars different treatment, but more importantly, they get seated too much by momentum, time of the game, the crowd etc. Foul vs non foul is completely subjective in the last 2 mins. They could have easily called a foul on that last steal as there was a ton of contact (glad they didn't) but then CPs pitiful push of GA when he's already finishing his dunk could have easily been ignored. And before that, holiday clearly carried on the way to the bucket, no call. I know that's rarely called but it was really bad. Missing that GA improperly inbounded the other night hit home too as we lost a 1st round game that way and ours was way less egregious. Just who is assigned can swing the game 5-10 pts easily and makes it borderline wrestlinglike performance art.
I'm hoping we win but I'm pretty sure the NBA already decreed that it's the Bucks' to lose. At least I can go back to ignoring the nba for another 3ish decades when the Suns will be back in the finals again

We can't enjoy the games if we can't accept the home court and star player advantages, and I agree about the influence of momentum, too. Officials are human, and even a particular kind of human, and it's all a part of the games. Unfortunately corruption got exposed as well, but maybe that helps with scrutiny.
I don't mind what's called star treatment. A lot of that is a subjective judgment call on what the officials think a player on offense can do. Lebron wasn't getting calls in the round 1 against Phoenix because the officials knew he was too injury-limited to finish on plays with higher degrees of difficulty that he'd normally score on. Cameron Payne doesn't normally get those calls because he hasn't demonstrated he can score on drives unless he beats defenders and clears their reach on the scoop shot, but they'll give him the call when he does precisely that. The refs will call a foul for any contact on Booker while he's shooting because they know he can score the "and one" from anywhere on the court. Giannis gets those calls on any shot in the block, which is they called Paul's slap at the end.
And when stars age, they stop getting calls they used to get because they can't finish on moves they used to finish on. Not getting calls is one indicator that it's time to change your game or retire.

Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
That's actually egregious. At least look like you care what it looks like. Either split Foster a game in Milwaukee and in Phoenix, or just give him one game. A second assignment in Milwaukee in an elimination game???
Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
The fix is in. More international interest if Giannis gets a ring

As bad as the Suns were playing in the 1st quarter, the Bucks are playing worse during the 2nd quarter. The Suns need to close out the quarter on a roll.

Hate to admit it but Giannis running the floor is a thing of beauty.

GA, getting every call he wants, is still outworking everyone at both ends of the floor.

Congrats to the Bucks. They played better tonight and Phoenix missed a lot of key shots in the 4th.
GA’s game was unbelievable. He just dominated.

Giannis played as perfect a game as I've ever seen. He won that from the free throw line alone, let alone everything else.

Meh. No redemption for my 7 year old self in 93. Maybe when I'm 63 years old. I'm slowly starting to think I'm not meant to see basketball championships on final 4s happen.

Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
Typical suns performance to lose four straight. Ayton was a wet blanket from start to finish tonight. What a terrible way to end the series.
Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
Ayton has such a soft touch on his shot, he relies on it too much instead of going strong to the bucket. Ayton could truly be dominating like Giannis if Ayton played to his size more. Still only year 3 in the league for Ayton, and he's a better player today then he was drafted. Still has time.
And Giannis was the best player on the floor. It also helped that he got all the calls and shot 19 free throws for the game. Exact same amount as the entire Suns team! Even if you take away the late, clock stopping foul that gave Giannis 2 FTs, he shot more free throws in the two games Tim Foster officiated than the entire Suns team. (Games 3 and 6). In the other 4 games combined, Suns shot 70 free throws to Giannis 49. And this includes game 2, where Giannis went to the line 18 times!
Not sure if it would have made a difference, but the referees often times make the NBA difficult to watch.

Re: 2020-2021 Phoenix Suns
My thoughts for game 6 was to let Giannis get his and stop Middleton and Holliday.
The Suns basically did that... but I did not account for Giannis to be a monster from the FT line. He was so clutch. If he hits his normal %, we have a game 7.
Also the Suns can't win with Booker being meh to good. If he is a superstar, he needs to be that superstar every game.
