2021 Season

Re: 2021 Season
Makes sense. Come in and get 6 outs by throwing 95-98 with a decent hook or whatever his secondary pitch is.
Thoughts on our starting pitching. Irvin moves to Friday? Then TJ and Flanagan?

Re: 2021 Season
Don’t know who would start when, but it’d be TJ, Murphy, and Irvin if Silseth went into the closer role.

Re: 2021 Season
From what I understand Silseth has a number in mind and it’s more than $125K. This could be going our way.
Re: 2021 Season
I would think a guy in the 20th would get maybe 25k so they have probably 175k for him. Hope it works out for him but would love to see him come back and be our closer

Re: 2021 Season
Nah, their 20th rounder is a college junior. If they want to sign him they'd have to at least give him $125K. The round doesn't matter, it's the player's situation that does. If you look at it, the guy drafted the round after Silseth got the biggest deal out of any player drafted in the 10th round or later in MLB draft history. He of course is a HS kid. It's all about situation.
Re: 2021 Season
Great stuff Choo and thanks but then how does a guy like Silseth benefit by coming back if he then has lost all his leverage? Only thing he could do would be to have a great year and get drafted higher but he still could be offered less than his slot provides.
I do find it interesting thst the angels drafted 20 pitchers and not one bat. Also 19 of the 20 went to college so that should be a tell for young players on the value of college

Re: 2021 Season
His leverage next year is he still has one more year of college eligibility after next year's draft. If he gets drafted in any round higher than he did this year then he's going to make more money. It's only true college seniors that are absolutely screwed.azcat49 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 8:13 am Great stuff Choo and thanks but then how does a guy like Silseth benefit by coming back if he then has lost all his leverage? Re: 2021 Season
Ok that makes total sense. I had him as a SR this next year. Seems like he has pitched forever and I guess with a RS year like you said and tge COVID free year he really got 6 years

Re: 2021 Season
Just seems like forever he has been pitching whether it be for Tennessee, the JUCO school and us (which would be two years if he comes back).
I like it though and hope we get him for another year and he signs a big contract. Dream scenario

Re: 2021 Season
No Damiano Palmegiani for us. 1B at the moment is a glaring hole.
Re: 2021 Season
So is it they have to sign by 8/1 or come back? I would think our backup plan prior to all the changes was that Berry could have moved to first? Has to be a 1B In the portal we could get? Little surprised we haven’t had anyone transfer in as of yet but maybe we were just waiting for things to wring out?

Re: 2021 Season
Yeah they have until 8/1 to sign. Obviously Silseth is the only guy we’re waiting on. Options are either moving a guy to 1B, not sure whom that’d be yet, probably one of our numerous OFs, or add a transfer. We’ll see what happens. I expect a left handed pitching transfer soon.azcat49 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 3:43 pm So is it they have to sign by 8/1 or come back? Re: 2021 Season
Great stuff Choo. Can O’Trymba play first? Not optimal given he is a righty but maybe CasaGrande? Davis should have CF locked down I would think

Re: 2021 Season
Bingham in CF and Davis in Right. I’m not sure on 1B. Maybe Paugh? Maybe incoming JUCO transfer Noah Turley? Both played 1B in HS, so it could be either one.

Re: 2021 Season
Here’s the left handed reliever I mentioned. Had a solid year at Loyola Marymount where he has a 0.77 ERA 3-1, 4 Saves, 53Ks and only 15BBs.
Re: 2021 Season
So we would potentially have this guy as a left handed closer and Silseth as a righty? Figure out a few spots and we can make a run

Re: 2021 Season
Silseth has until 2pm Tucson time tomorrow to sign or he’s returning. Angels have signed all their draft picks except him and one other guy.
Re: 2021 Season
Hate rooting against him but so hoping we get him for another year and then he goes big

Re: 2021 Season
Starting rotation will be Irvin, Nichols, and Murphy barring something unforeseen. Arizona is still pursuing a handful of 2021 guys as well.
Re: 2021 Season
Wow on that number. Good for him. That seems to be far ahead of the slot value

According to court documents obtained by News 4 Tucson on Thursday, Luna appeared in court on Thursday and was charged with aggravated assault.
Despite being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the ninth round of the 2021 MLB Draft with 275th pick on July 12, court officials said he appeared in person.
Authorities said the 22-year-old "was released on his own recognizance and is permitted to travel out of state for work purposes."
Abshier, on the other hand, was arraigned and charged for aggravated assault in connection to the case on on July 22.
Both individuals are set to appear in court again on Sept. 8.

I’m surprised Robbins didn’t kick both off team.

Kid is a star! Hard to think he sat on the bench all year and they couldn’t find a situational spot for him. I assume that’s why he didn’t follow JJ

Re: 2021 Season
The Davises were fine with what transpired last season as they know OF was very deep and he was getting his time next season for sure. They're bitter that JJ sold them on that and he bounced. He's definitely going to have a starring role regardless.
Re: 2021 Season
Good stuff Choo. Any relation to Chili Davis?
The whole team was solid and I guess rewarding those before him made sense but he could have been in LF, especially with the injuries. Glad he stayed.
Thoughts on the job Chip is doing recruiting?

Re: 2021 Season
I don't believe they're related.
Obviously there's a major emphasis being put on recruiting locally and to be fair that's where Chip's personal immediate contacts lie. I'm reserving judgment, but so far the guys he's landed aren't up to the level that Jay landed here, although I believe there will be more of an emphasis on developing guys. It's still early though and most of the 2022 class is already done.
Re: 2021 Season
So the 22 class was mostly recruited by JJ I would assume. Where do we get a list of those guys?
I saw two players committed to us so I assume they are 23? I know one was local but didn’t know they all were AZ kids?
JJ had to benefit from being in San Diego and Reno/Nor Cal with his contacts.
Of note, I spoke with a former ASSU guy who also played pro ball and he wanted that job. His staff was going to be him, Royce Clayton and Eric Davis he said. He was not high on Bloomquist and thinks we are in much better shape with Chip. Could have been sour grapes but he echoed what you have said about just making sure he gets done recruiters as he said he has the needed credibility with these kids

Here's the best place typically to see our baseball commitments, although since the coaching change they haven't done a great job updating it completely. For instance Ryan Ward who is listed here is no longer committed to us and they're missing the following guys:
https://www.perfectgame.org/players/pla ... ?ID=552738
https://www.perfectgame.org/players/pla ... ?ID=713840
This list also won't include any JUCO guys we land and also the highest rated guys we had committed for this 2022 class decommitted after Jay left.

4 pitchers and an outfielder.
