Don’t know anything about these kids but glad to see we are getting some commitments.

Still need a 1b for next year though I think

2. Noah Turley, baseball. As much as it hurt to lose freshman All-American designated-hitter Jacob Berry to LSU, the Wildcats might’ve found a suitable replacement. Turley, who is from the Salt Lake City area, was a first-team NJCAA All-American at Yavapai College last spring, leading the nation with 22 home runs while hitting .417. At the Perfect Game Showcase in San Diego this summer, Turley ranked No. 3 in exit velocity while hitting and No. 3 in arm velocity from the outfield, 97 mph. He was also the sixth-fastest player among the 60 invited to the showcase. Turley, a sophomore, will play first base or left field for Chip Hale’s Wildcats.

From Hansen Sunday notebook column. So we might have a first baseman In this class but not sure he can fill Berry’s shoes as a hitter

I mentioned Turley as a 1B option in the other long thread. Just FYI, he's part of the incoming group (2021). What's funny about Turley is Jay recruited him as a pitcher, he pitched a few games this year at Yavapai and wasn't very good, he was then slotted in as DH and he just destroyed teams.

His swing looks just like Gary Sanchez’s.

Got another recruit. An Easton (have to like the name) Breyfogle twittered his commitment.

No idea how good or even what class but at least we are getting players I would assume they like

2023, Utility guy, this staff has been hitting the midwest hard. Also expect another local Arizona guy here soon.

Choo, I think perfect game has us in the top 50 with this next class with most of the players rated in the top 200. Not bad I guess but usually we got a commitment of two from a top 50 guy?

Now we probably lost them to the draft but do you sense a change in recruiting philosophy with this staff on top recruits?

Also what are your thoughts so far. Are you encouraged?

I honestly don't know yet. The focus seems to be locals and identifying under recruited talent who have recently started to blow up (their recent midwest commits are in the latter category). At this early point it looks more like an Andy Lopez style of recruiting with focus on talented locals and using the connections you've got to fill the remaining holes. I'm most curious to see the strategy with pitching, because outside of the one grad transfer, all the commitments of this Chip Hale era have been position players. Also some California recruiting has to be going on.

JUCO guy who went to CDO committed last night. Performed very well for Central Arizona, who is a powerhouse. Another local guy will likely announce soon as well.

Do you think maybe this is just a short term strategy to sort of stabilize the roster after the post-Johnson mass exodus?

We got to be hitting CA hard if we want to make CWS runs.

I do think it's partially that, yes. The thing with baseball recruiting is guys commit really young in their HS careers, so as far as the 2022 class goes there's not many available guys, so it's certainly far from a bad thing to recruit locals who have shown they can perform.

We'll definitely see what happens though, obviously abandoning California is not a long term option for success.

This is Stanford’s head coach’s son. He was good enough to play for his dad, but I heard the grades weren’t there, so we’re the beneficiary.

Chip lost his top remaining commit (from Jay Johnson) to Texas A&M. The remaining class has only two guys from California at this point. That’s going to have to change in 2023 and on.

I would assume it’s a pitcher? I have seen a lot of commitment announcements but I guess they are those under the radar guys

It was a 3B. He also lost a LHP commitment in the same day, but he’s from Minnesota. Both Jay guys of course. Vast majority of our commitments are from Arizona, including a recent commit from Pima CC.

Jay basically took all the highest ranked commits with him.

Took Jay awhile to land highly rated classes as well. Can only land guys who were available on short time frame, so can’t hold this against Chip that bad. 2023 and on will be a better picture of our staff’s ability as recruiters.

My son played little league baseball with him, I am amazed that he is a DI baseball player now. That is great! I believe he would only be a HS underclassman as well.
