Official Bat Thread
Just now there was a bat inside my house. WTF? I was watching TV with the family and he flies right into the living room, sonar-senses us, and turns around and flies all over the house like a freaked out flying ape. I opened the front door and tried to convince him that was his ticket back to the world. Finally my wife turned off the porch light, and I guess that convinced him, because out he flew.

We have a bat thread now? Reminds me, I've been wanting to go down to the flood control tunnel near 40th Street and Camelback.

I wish we had bats. They’d eat the mosquitoes.

Re: Official Bat Thread
I love seeing all the bats right as the sun sets. I live close to the Cañada del Oro wash and I'm pretty sure a bunch of bats live in those under the overpasses. I always see them swooping low over my pool when I'm out there as the sun goes down. Makes me love the desert.
As a side note, I really enjoy my backyard. I get all kinds of birds: owls, woodpeckers, cardinals, finches, flycatchers, roadrunners, quail, hawks, falcons etc. I've also identified about 4 species of lizards and now got roped into feeding a new family of rock squirrels that plays every afternoon in my lemon and lime trees.

Re: Official Bat Thread
Apparently biologists have to keep changing the definition of "primate" to keep bats out of the order. And most bat specialists regard bats as primates.
They're little, blind, flying monkeys.
