Seems like Jedd Lasso is going through his “wanker” phase.
Now it’s time to prove that he’s actually a head coach. Not just a guy who can convince dumbshits like Heeke and Robbins that he deserves a shot.

All the gimmicks, car salesman talk, and slogans in the world won't help when the product you put on the field smells like a stinky, disgusting dead Fisch.

I have been a huge supporter of Fisch, but then on facebook people were bitching about fickle fans and how real fans support the kids no matter what and always stay til the end of the game.
My reply
"Well, good for all of you. This university has made the game day experience suck with all the long lines etc.
I don't care how bare your cupboard allegedly is. No power 5 school should lose to a team like NAU at HOME…. EVER.
All I asked for was incremental improvement over last year, instead I got a feces smeared, foul liquid leaking, flaming dumpster.
I don't feel bad for skipping NAU, I saw no value in watching therm beat up the Jacks, that would have been meaningless. What happened is not meaningless and I’m glad I didn’t see any of it. If just getting there and into my seats is a trial, it sure as hell isn't worth it to see this miserable excuse for a team play like a bunch of goddamn tomato cans.
I did my part. I had reasonable expectations, bought tix, supported the team through the first two losses, but this is inexcusable.
I am the consumer.
How dare you expect brand loyalty when your product is hot garbage? Then you make it a chore just to access this shitty product?
F** you. You deserve a completely empty stadium
I actually think Fisch deserved to be unceremoniously fired immediately at games end and escorted out of the stadium. Obviously, we can't do that, and there is still a chance to improve, but until further notice, Fisch is nothing but a goddamn fraud and huckster"
At this point you have to worry if the football program can even support itself, let alone provide funding for the
athletic department in general. Has a power 5 school ever dropped it's FB program? By next week we will be in posession of the longest losing streak in PAC 8,10,12 history. It feels like we have almost reached this point of despair.

Re: Jedd Fisch
Hopefully he'll realize how unwelcome he is and will just tear up his contract and quit. He's not a head coach and there's no good will for him pretending to be one at the expense of the net generator for our athletic department.
Re: Jedd Fisch
First thing, he needs to start Mcloud and stick with Mcloud. These other two aren't it. It's like Heavner and Kovalcheck. At least Mcloud has experience. He should also replace the O-line with empty oil drums.

Cruz and Plummer need to transfer out and make room for real QBs coming in.

Re: Jedd Fisch
I’ve been thinking lately about how there is a big offense playbook, statements about the QBs having trouble with all the plays, and how bad the offense looks (wrong blocks, missing reads, etc.). I think Arizona biggest issue is the offense playbook and play calling, more so than talent. I don’t think the offense knows what’s it’s doing a decent part of the time. I can’t say if Fisch is a good or bad OC based on three games, but the current playbook isn’t working and needs to be addressed.
Is Fisch a bad Head Coach? Again to early but I’m leaning towards no (it’s only 3 games) because the team is disciplined (no sub penalties!), I haven’t had issue when in-game management (I.e going for fourth, trying a field goal, timeouts, etc.), hitting recruiting hard. It is his responsibility though to recognize the problem and fix it.
I think Fisch needs to do is give up offense play calling and give it to a true OC (not sure if we have a coach on the team that would be good) and focus as a Head Coach.

1. It's hard not to expect execution mistakes with new pieces, and we have a lot of new pieces. We've shown at times we have the ability to be competent and execute well, but that's not a constant, and when we don't execute, we get drilled because we also lack talent.
2. I think there's a conscious rock/hard place dilemma. If we go too vanilla, we lack personnel to match most teams. If we try to be complex, we have more trouble executing.
So, I tend towards lacking talent being the root of a lot. If we had more talent, we could play the game we want to. As it is, we look like we're trying to install a system and suffering the mistakes that come with new guys trying to blend and execute.
Re: Jedd Fisch
A good coach has an idea what he wants to do, recruits players to his idea, and executes. A great coach does the same, but can tweak the game plan, and even change it if need to to maximize the talent. Would be great if we had Jalen Hurts on the roster, and if he struggled, back him up with Tuitagaviloa, but very few schools have the roster of an Alabama. And even Florida has to change things up to match the talent. Last year, Florida attacked through the air with Kyle Trask, and had a very successful season. This year, it's Emory Jones at QB, and their offense looks a lot like a RichRod coached team, very run heavy, and again, they look very good. Were a 2 point conversion away from tying Alabama, and just beat Tenn by 17.
It's only been 4 games, and I'm not sure what Fisch wants to do with the offense. My guess is a west coast style attack or what the Patriots looked like most years with Brady at the helm. And that's an offense that throws the ball 60% to 70% of the time with a few runs mixed in. That's the offense we tried to run against NAU. Problem is, we don't have a Joe Montana or Tom Brady on the roster. Against NAU, we had 41 passes to only 27 running plays.
For the better, in my opinion, we changed our offensive philosophy against Oregon. We became more of a run first team. 35 passes to 55 runs! If we had a similar mix against NAU, we probably win. I hope this is Fisch and Carrol realizing that we don't have the talent to run what Fisch wants, and we'd likely be more successful if we tried to become a more power running team first. And again, if you think we couldn't run against NAU, Anderson and John combined had 17 carries for 109 yards. Why only 17 touches?
Our next step is finishing drives. And here some poor play calling got in the way in my opinion. The jet sweep to the short side isn't working, hasn't worked all year, and didn't work again against Oregon. We were winning the LOS on O, and call a jet sweep for -1. Next play, first int. The other int in the end zone is a play we shouldn't be running with Mccloud at QB. Not enough arm strength in my opinion. Another bad call.
Last, I would like to see some read option plays with Mccloud. He's not Khalil Tate who can beat you with his legs and throw the ball on a dime 60 yards. But RichRod won 8 games with B. J. Denker as QB, and Mccloud, in my opinion, can be this kind of QB. Lots of read option, lots or running, and then the big play with a play-action. Let's see if Fisch can actually maximize the talent on the field?

Re: Jedd Fisch
Well I was a big Fisch supporter in the off season, but the fact is that if we lose every remaining game and I can't see how we won't, couple with losing to NAU at home this will by far be the worst season ever. I believed the staff was competent, but I see a team that just can't improve. I'm not football savvy enough to know if this staff is doing a horrible job or not. Sumlin did a lot to hurt this program and there has been some bad luck, but still Jedd's first season is an abysmal failure. I never dreamed that this team could be so horrible and I had pretty low expectations.
I just no longer have any hope for this program. How is Fisch going to keep this recruiting class intact? All their friends are teasing them about the dumpster fire they committed to.

Re: Jedd Fisch
Is it possible that Scumlin left us in such dire straits that even with all the transfers, a better staff can't get any more out of the team than this?
Or is this coaching staff not an upgrade at all?
Or is this coaching staff not an upgrade at all?
Re: Jedd Fisch
Even Mike Stoops managed to win 3 games with the roster left after the Mackovic disaster. And Stoops' first team displayed improvements over the season, even if the wins weren't coming. And it's not like Stoops was Nick Saban. But Fisch is making Mike Stoops look like Saban.
Our current team not only hasn't improved, we've regressed. The offensive looks awful, and the D is starting to get frustrated. Now the special teams is making mistakes. Another blowout loss and it's possible the wheels will completely come off.
Fisch is over his head. He looks lost, and so does the team. And nothing I've seen indicates it will get better under Fisch.

Re: Jedd Fisch
I used to work at a FCS school (Cal Poly SLO) where my office was real close to the stadium and football offices.
To a man, it seemed like each Poly player was about a head smaller than the football players I used to see around the UA.
Even if outplayed and outcoached, just due to the immense size and strength of a P5 conference player compared to FCS, the Cats should have just worn NAU down. Some may recall a few years ago, Cal Poly had a 2 TD lead on ASU due to the gimmicky triple option CP ran then, but ASU just wore down Poly.
There is no excuse to lose to NAU, nor get shutout and blown out by the next worst team in the PAC.

Re: Jedd Fisch
We don’t have the personnel to run a pro set. Most college teams don’t. Our line isn’t big enough to line up and go toe to toe with other defenses. That’s why the spread works in college.
We don’t have the line for a pro style and it has been an absolute failure with our personnel. Jedd hasn’t adapted to the team he has, no the team he wants.

Re: Jedd Fisch
Looks like those of you who wanted to hold off praising the steps Fisch made during the off season until you saw what he did on the field have a solid leg to stand on.
Re: Jedd Fisch
Jedd is a salesman. That's how he got into football. He had NO football experience yet sold his way onto Steve Spurrier's staff. It's a cute story but that should've been a giant "RED BLINKING" warning light. How can you coach any skilled activity without ever having participated in said activity? It defies logic. You can't teach (well) what you don't know. Perhaps more importantly you cannot lead with credibility. We're now seeing Jedd for what he is...a dreamer. He seems like a nice guy, he's trying hard, but he's an amateur. He may eventually win a game or two but we're not turning the corner with Jedd at the helm. We need a competent program builder say someone like that San Jose St HC.
It's a beautiful day in AZ, time to get outside. I leave you with good news (although our Prez will do his very best to change it): https://news.arizona.edu/story/uarizona ... 20is%20103.

Ted Lasso is a great fucking show.
But if Ted Lasso was actually coaching a real team he would be a fucking disaster as a head coach.
I wasn't sure of this until watching Jedd in action.

The problem is that whenever Fisch is done here Robbins will still be hiring his replacement, so Arizona Football isn't getting any better until whatever decade we dump our awful president.

Re: Jedd Fisch
Amazing that a coach who lost to NAU at home, wasn't fired mid season, but he gets a pass this year, I guess because it's possible Sumlin fucked over this program that badly. I still have diminishing hope that we're a QB away from having a mediocre team, not impressed with player development so far. The D looks improved on paper, but is there a stat for failure to stop the big game changing plays that every team gets just when they need it to bury us?

We have serviceable, mediocre quarterbacks on the roster. Cruz and Plummer have the arm strength and measurables any school would want. McCloud doesn't have the arm strength, but is more than athletic enough and smart enough to be a solid college QB. What we lack is the coaching.
Player development has been non-existent, especially at the QB level. I think Plummer has regressed from his playing time from last year, and Cruz looked better against BYU than he has looked since.
And nobody should be surprised. It's not like Fisch's offense at U of Miami or the Jacksonville Jaguars lit up the league. There isn't a single QB out there who credits Fisch with their career. And even though Fisch had O-Coordinator experience at both the NCAA and NFL level, it's not like other schools or pro teams were clamoring for Fisch's services. So either Robbins and Heeke saw something in Fisch that nobody else in the top levels of football saw? Or Robbins and Heeke sold some stinky Fisch oil.

Here's Plummer's lines for the three games he played last year:
vs UCLA: 17 of 35 151 yards 2 INT
vs Colorado: 19 of 32 154 yards 1 INT
vs ASSu: 7 of 13 83 yards
He's not a div 1 QB.

Re: Jedd Fisch
I think Jedd Fisch's best chance to succeed is to fire himself as the OC and play caller and replace Brennan Carrol with someone who has run an offense and knows what they are doing. I feel for Don Brown and the Defensive coaches, I feel like they are doing everything they can to keep us in games just to see awful offensive game planning and play calling prevent them from having any chance to actually win.
Re: Jedd Fisch
Don't think it's fair to make an assessment off of a true freshman's performance, COVID-19 weirdness year, on a team that was already giving up on its coach. Plummer has the physical tools to be successful. What's yet to be determined is if he has the mental tools, which requires someone to coach a player up. The fact that Plummer looked better last year after being thrown into the fire doesn't bode well for the current offensive coaches on staff.

He doesn't pass the eye test for me either.

Re: Jedd Fisch
Plummer has never looked like an FBS QB to me.
Re: Jedd Fisch
Plummer passed for over 6,800 yards and 58 tds to 35 ints as a starter for two years at Gilbert High. 4A, Phoenix area program, so against some Arizona quality schools. He's a little short at only 6'1", but has a good arm, and looks like he has command in the huddle. I'm not saying Plummer is the next coming of Drew Brees, but with some coaching, I think Plummer can be serviceable at this level. We may never know, because last year was a complete s...show all around. And the next few years? We have a former NFL QB Coach who can't seem to coach his way out of paper bag leading us. By the way, Plummer chose us over Colorado, Oregon State, and Oklahoma State. It's not like we were his only high, D1 offer.

As a Fan man it Starts with coaches and not these coaches. Fake Fony and Fictious. But we are running a NFL style offense with not NFL personnel. no accurate passer. And it appears we dont adjust well to defensice schemes. Please take shots down the field. If we make tackles we are at least 3and3

Re: Jedd Fisch
I am pretty sure Jedd has lost just about everyone in 6 quick weeks and I don't think his salesmanship is going to be nearly as effective this offseason now that their is tape on how he calls a game, prepares for a game, sees talent and makes adjustments. If we are not able to pull out some miracle and win one of our remaining 6 games we will have a lame duck coach with a huge buyout (why we gave a buyout to a guy with this background is beyond me) and an AD who was just extended (Robbins) and an Assistant AD laughing all the way to the bank. What a joke our AD has become in just a few years, was Byrne that good at his job or are Robbins and Heeke that bad?
