Coming back to school has not helped Juzang. It's the Trier effect. Juzang isn't getting drafted ahead of younger players at his position with similar or better skill sets. He''s a second-rounder at best.
Re: (M) Game 18, Arizona at UCLA (2021-2022)
I agree that he’s the key, but 25 might not be enough. Put Dalen on him.
I think we struggle if Tyger out plays Kerr.

We should have an advantage inside..........we need to pound it in to CK or post up AT on Jaquez.
If they defend straight up we should get high percentage buckets and fouls on Riley/Johnson/Jaquez
If UCLA cheats and collapses we kick it outside for wide open 3's.

Re: (M) Game 18, Arizona at UCLA (2021-2022)
Guys- this is the team we really wanted. I love Miller. He was awesome for us. I loved the toughness he brought. But it ran its course. This style of ball is Arizona basketball. It's beautiful to watch. UCLA cannot run with us. They won't be able to to score with us. We pull away late! 82-74.
Re: (M) Game 18, Arizona at UCLA (2021-2022)
Only problem is you need to cover Jaquez on the defensive end. This is a toss up game. If Benn get hot or Tyger gets hot it is their teams to lose.dmjcat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 3:35 pm We should have an advantage inside..........we need to pound it in to CK or post up AT on Jaquez.

What happened to Greg?
Re: (M) Game 18, Arizona at UCLA (2021-2022)
So here is some meaningless information for all of you. UCLA was a play in team last year for a reason. No one discounts their run to the final four but this is a team that lost 10 games last year. Arizona lost 9. They have everyone back and we lost the leading scorer in the PAC right now, a floor general on a top 5 team and a recruit that will be in the conversation ( Stanford guy wins) for freshman of the year. Now those guys may have not fit Az current style but imagine them coming off the bench.
My thoughts are UCLA is more battletested and are playing at home. It is a toss up but I think experience puts them over the top at home. Hope and pray I'm wrong.

Re: (M) Game 18, Arizona at UCLA (2021-2022)
I am surprised that we are still a 2.5 point road favorite with the crowd back (as much as it ever is) at Pauley and with no indication that AT will be available. I do like our matchup inside, but I don't like how quickly we can lose that advantage with foul trouble in a true road game.
Kerr needs to save the Olympic level degree of difficulty shots for the occasional (hopefully) heat check and just look to get Benn and the post involved, wait for the ball to come back to him for his 3s. Make them defend the entirity of our offense if we are forced into a half court set. But push for early offense...the break is always big, but the secondary break and unbalanced defense is big for any team, but huge for us. Don't force the break if they get back, but get that secondary look before they are fully settled. This is hurt by us having Ballo and Koloko in the game at the same time, as that leaves us with only 3.25 rebounders who can push (I give CK a .25 for this because he is far better at putting the ball on the floor and getting started than anyone his size should be). So the first pass is super important. CK can get caught making bad decisions on that first pass after the rebound...he seems to get baited into a turnover or throwing the ball away because he sees the defender too late once or twice a game.
So try to push while valuing the ball, and look for chances in the secondary break if the initial break doesn't give a free run to the basket. Kerr needs to avoid quick shots except for those momentum ones he seems to have a knack for, and keep moving after passing the ball to offer a good target for a return pass. And we HAVE to avoid the useless backcourt frustration fouls after missing a shot or turning the ball over, especially from CK. Make all 5 fouls count, and come in the run of play.
I do like us tonight, by 4 or 5. If AT played, I'd feel better, but if we have Ballo and CK under 4 fouls each with 8 minutes to play, I really like running out late.

Cats need to avoid the slow starts/early lulls that put them in a hole like @Illinois and @Tennessee.
If I see that again, even though I know they can overcome it like those two previous games, I think it's a loss.
Can't spent a huge chunk of the game trying to claw back, especially with players missing.

Here's hoping we can keep this game close (or just lead) into the final minutes and put ourselves in a position to win. Really not sure how it'll go. I don't like that they've had an extra day of rest.

For those of you not in the USA, Game Time is 15:00 (3pm) Wednesday Australian Eastern Time. ESPN is carrying the game.
At game time, in Melbourne, the temperature is expected to be 37c (98f) and humidity between 35 and 40% with no breeze to speak of.
Keep hydrated.

During the Stanford game he wasn't wearing a boot either on the court, but did when he was sitting.

Clark being out only impacts their depth. He's not a significant source of...well...anything.

To kill time I’m at the Cholla Salpointe girls game.
49-4 in the third.
Cholla only has 5 players.
What is rule for number of players in NCAA?

Hopefully there is a mercy rule in high school games.
Seem to recall at one time one team lent the other team players in such a game.

Clark is out for the game. He's not a great source of offense but is a versatile defender. Im pretty sure will ride their starters most of the way, barring foul issues.

I'm hoping the refs can stay out of this 1 and then the players play.
