Re: Best/Worst analysts/commentators/announcers
The Athletic (Dana O'Neil and Brian Hamilton) just posted an article today on the teams that could possibly make the Elite Eight... and they didn't mention Arizona. Didn't mention UCLA. Didn't mention the Pac-12 or a single team in the conference.
I don't mean that they dismissed the teams in the conference... they literally went through all the major conferences and the WCC except they just skipped the Pac-12 before wrapping up. Then they sent it in to their editor and the whole team thought "this is good, this is worthy of publishing" and hit send.
I'm struggling to find the words to express my disdain.

They literally don’t watch west coast games. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard Parrish on cbs admit he doesn’t stay up to watch games.YoDeFoe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 3:53 pm The Athletic (Dana O'Neil and Brian Hamilton) just posted an article today on the teams that could possibly make the Elite Eight... and they didn't mention Arizona. The ability to get on tv at a decent time is an issue for those types.

But FESPN spends so much time with Walton on the screen I need to know what is happening on court.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:10 pm I feel like Pasch started to believe that people were tuning in to hear him. And it made him lazy.
Or maybe he was always lazy. But for fuck’s sake just guide people through the game. Tell them what to look out for and what they may have missed. And holy shit please remember, and this goes for everyone at ESPN, that television is a visual medium. There’s no need to verbally describe in minute detail what’s right in front of my eyes.
Nobody wants the split screen and nobody cares about their special guests during the game.
Re: Best/Worst analysts/commentators/announcers
Agreed. The split screen with the damn broadcasters is annoying. They need to realize that like the saying “nobody tuned in to watch the refs officiate” the same goes for broadcasters.Postmaster wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:42 pmBut FESPN spends so much time with Walton on the screen I need to know what is happening on court.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:10 pm I feel like Pasch started to believe that people were tuning in to hear him. I thought I've heard bad announcers before, but I've never seen them wheel two fossils out from their mausoleums to call a game either.

Dan and Barry had issues but they didn’t make a joke out of the game like FESPN does with Walton.

If someone can explain Spears to me I would greatly appreciate it.

They were much better...20 years ago.Postmaster wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 9:46 pm Dan and Barry had issues but they didn’t make a joke out of the game like FESPN does with Walton.
Barry butchered a lot of names, especially the opening lineups. That's just basic lack of prep.
But what really bothered me they got plays wrong. I think there was one sequence when Kerr dove for a lose ball and they said it was a foul on him but all it was was an out of bounds play. There were a few other botched calls too.
Re: Best/Worst analysts/commentators/announcers
That was the worst broadcast I’ve seen in a long time. Just awful. Couldn’t distinguish players, couldn’t tell fouls from out of bounds, couldn’t stop with the dated catch phrases. Couldn’t resist regurgitation of the same stories (albeit incorrect often) that have been told throughout the year (were you guys aware why Kerr is on the back of his jersey). Couldn’t pronounce names, and on and on.

You would guess that things like Kriisa’s name or budiger plays volleyball are filler that producers put together and feed to announce team.
I’m surprised we don’t hear about Kier’s mother all of the time still. Makes me wonder if he asked that it not be brought up.

Re: Best/Worst analysts/commentators/announcers
I think most Podcasters, writers and media personalities are either insightful, have good sources, beat writers, journalists, know the game well or are very funny. Many times with a combination of two of those. Spears has none of those in my opinion. He makes tons of mistakes as well that two minute of prep would solve.Postmaster wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 3:58 pmHe followed the FESPN company line a lot regarding the FBI stuff.
He called it “pay to play” and I quit listening to him.
That is why I said I don't get what he does.
Yes what Greg said is true but really what does he do.
I never met him but know a few people who have and they all say he is a good dude but I just don't get why he is on the Wildcast. No ill will but I just don't get it. Just seems like a fan who is well liked by the right people?

He does his radio show with Ali Farhang.
That guy is connected to Salpointe and has a decent sized law firm in town. He is also president of Arizona Bowl. So he is well connected in town. Maybe that is what keeps him around?
Not a fan of his show, never heard the pod cast.
He did emcee the Taco Drop on New Year’s Eve.

Re: Best/Worst analysts/commentators/announcers
I've mentioned previously that Justin Spears and my son are former football teammates and classmates at Cienega. We know his family, nice people (his dad recently passed).
That being said, neither my son nor I are big fans of his work. My son used to do HS streaming sports with him and always knew more. My son doesn't work in sports, and I'd put his sports knowledge up against Justin's any day.
This is Justin's second crack at an afternoon show, the first one got cancelled. I have only listened for a few minutes here and there, we don't follow him on Twitter. (Woodman's shows were so much better - it's a shame he can't put a lid on his crazy politics.)
The fact that Justin still openly roots for and talks about all California teams is also annoying. He's been in Arizona for a long time. The "pay-to-play" thing is horrible, especially for a UofA alum.
That Alec White kid from the Star and on Twitter is also from Vail/Cienega, my son played in the same little league and we also know his family. He'll probably be the next Justin.

Absolutely frustrating and sickening watching game day at auburn this morning. Nothing but love towards pearl. A repeat violator and just gets a free pass compared to the shitstorm Arizona and Miller received.

Sorry to hear about Spears' father
Must be why there was no podcast for a while
In terms of UA podcasts there are notable tiers in my opinion with a note on each
Top
Wildcat County (weekly and very knowledgeable but Shane can be annoying on Twitter at times with his negativity)
Wildcast (White and Lev are great and make up for Spears)
Middle
PHNX Wildcats (Daily. Luke does what he can but hard to fill time up every day at times)
Wildcat Scoop (Few times a week. Scheer has been doing it with his wife lately)
Wildcat Radio 2.0 (Weekly. Too many personal references and jokes but solid most the time)
Lower
All others

I believe it was the Lloyd introductory press conference where Spears was in a t-shirt and had a upside down Lakers mask on. Everyone else at least had polos on. Just what I mean that I don't get it. You can't expect me to take your seriously doing that.

Those were the two worst games broadcast this year. Just unlistenable trash.
Also, is there a bigger douchebag than Dan Dakich? Is he even doing games anymore, or just relegated to a Twitter troll.

I don't know, looked like a pastie to me.
(In pastie, the a is pronounced like in "bat" or "fat", not like in "bait" or "fate". It is a Cornish meal that miners would take underground with them for lunch, it's kind of a yooper thing.)

There used to be a place on far north side of Tucson called McNasty’s Pastys.
