He didn't even make the all defensive team that year. Absolutely unbelievable malfeasance.
god damn Aaron Gordon was somethin...i remember his chin nutting Gonzaga - AZ and Sean Miller blew Few/Lloyd/Gonzaga out 84-61 in the NCAA's in 2014 as the West #1 Seed.

Some of y’all are naive when you can’t remember how these votes play themselves out.
Yup. Gary Payton Jr over Aaron Gordon for DPOY as well as Joe Young as POY over TJ McConnell. Pac-12 are literally stat whores when it comes to this.
???
PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
BACHYNSKI is the first Sun Devil to be voted Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and is just one of six ASU student-athletes to receive an end-of-year award. The senior finished the regular season as the Pac-12 career leader in blocked shots with 309 over his four seasons with Arizona State. He also had three game-saving blocked shots at the buzzer that preserved ASU victories. Bachynski led the nation in blocks, averaging 4.23 per game, and was sixth in the Conference in rebounding, averaging 8.4 per ga
I could give two of all your shits about pac preseason ranks and teams.
I mean they have like 10 players in the all pac first teams. Lmao

OMG Bachynski won that year, that's even worse. I was thinking of Rondae vs Payton the following year, my bad.
It's ridiculous we had AG, RHJ, Nick Johnson and TJ McConnell and zero of those guys won Pac 12 DPOY. I can't give that any logical explanation other than cancelling each other out.

Brings up a question. Dalen Terry or RHJ, who would you draft first if you were a GM and why. They are a lot alike but I think Terry shoots it better and certainly see’s the court better and handles it better. RHJ rebounded better and probably was a slightly better defender

Rondae was a far better defender (he could truly guard anyone at any time) but Terry is better at literally everything else
Terry is not the player of Jefferson's quality at this point - maybe we can revisit it as a junior but he needs a lot of maturity, imo.
he reminds more of Richard Jefferson in terms of maturity and personality, if he fixes that jump shot and learns to chill a bit and own being good enough he could be lottery next season playing and leading a stacked team.

Terry.
Rondae's lack of skills on the wing resulted in having to be a small 4

Watching D Terry play last year... and then reading this a year later... is making my head spin.
At no point last year did I ever imagine reading that D Terry could be a lottery pick..... his improvement from year 1-2 has just been amazing.

I see a ton of growth in Terry as the season is progressing - very much enjoying watching him mature on the court. Can't wait to see what he looks like as a junior especially with an offseason under the direction of this coaching staff.
The jumpshot is the number one spot for improvement for next year but it's been good to see him accept that he's a poor jump shooter and focus on the other areas he can impact the game.
One thing I'd like for him to do this season though: get to the line more. His free throw rate is way down, owing to his penchant for making the extra pass rather than forcing it. With his length... I'd like to see him force some more attacks at the rim and make the defense foul him. That'd be an efficient way for him to increase his points and impact the game offensively.

That tech was garbage. I couldn't figure out if he kept talking to our fans or was getting chippy with UW fans. A lot of talking going on that the refs ignored this game
three 20pt games in a row - i think Mathurin is poised to have his best home game of the year Saturday evening at McKale Center against Oregon and cement his lock on Pac12 POY.
It’s actually a little nuts to me BM isn’t the clear front runner for the award at this point. The last couple weeks have made it clear he’s POY, but sure I’m biased.

Ballo = Honorable Mention All Pac12
…and Pelle?
Is it fathomable that 6 of our 8 rotation players get All Pac 12 First Team/Second Team/HM honors?
Excluding Kriisa and Kier.
This is why the future seems so bright right now, even with the recruiting taking a little while to pick back up. If we only lose Mathurin, our roster is LOADED for next season.
Yes it is, I see Terry really stepping out up next year, would be great if he got better from 3. He's already looking better, but I would cry if he was a 40% from 3 guy next year. On top of what he already does, he would be lottery.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.
