Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Ideal scenario. Win out regular season. Get a dub in conference tourney. Get beat by Oregon in second round, early bow out and wait for selection show. I honestly don't think Utah or Colorado have the horses to beat us. That was my impression the first games and still now.
Utah has won 3 of their last 16 games (Standfurd, Cal and OSU). They have one intriguing player in that Both Gach kid and that's it.
The Buffs five game win streak is OSU twice, Utah, Stanford and Cal. They took three losses before that to the Washington schools and Oregon. They don't really have a good win all season against maybe Oregon.
SC- Boogie Ellis needed a buzzer beater last night to beat WSU at home. Peterson seems to be their best player now. Love watching him thinking he's Jordan. I'll give him this he was a pain in the ass against Benn. Mobley looked awful last night and seems to be drifting. But ok maybe SC will be a tough game.
Cal and Furd have no chance in McKale.
AZ is rolling I think we win out with a small chance for a hiccup at SC.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
getting Utah on Thursday is a bonus for AZ and i agree, Border both opponents this week dont have the players to hang with AZ for 40mins but their fans will be ready (both Utes and Buffs) i'll tell ya that.

College basketball Power Rankings: Auburn and Kentucky's losses are Arizona's and Kansas' gains this week
2. Arizona Wildcats (24-2)
Previous ranking: 4
This week: at Utah (Thursday), at Colorado (Saturday)
It wasn't Arizona's finest week, but the Wildcats used big second-half efforts to beat Oregon State and Oregon. And aside from showing some resilience in taking every punch a desperate Oregon team threw on Saturday night, one of the bigger positives of the week was Bennedict Mathurin really rounding back into form. After a nine-game stretch in which he averaged 13.1 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 38.1% from the field and 29.3% from 3 -- and never scored more than 18 in a single game -- he has now registered at least 20 points in four straight contests. Over that stretch, Mathurin is averaging 22.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 55.6% from the field and 50.0% from 3.

If we win our next three, we’re a #1 seed, regardless of what else happens before Selection Sunday.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
So tell me why we are different than Auburn who was seeded ahead of us? They aren't on the one line anymore. If we lose, Auburn will move back up to a one seed and we will move down a line. Not a big deal if matchups are as good. I think you are dreaming if you think a loss will not drop us in seeding. You think we are still on the one line if Auburn wins out and wins their tourney if we lose in the PAC12 tourney? Nope.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 8:07 am If we win our next three, we’re a #1 seed, regardless of what else happens before Selection Sunday.

The rocky mountain trip is not what it used to be but looking at their home game results in conference shows they still keep it close and make it tough.
Whereas they tend to get blown out (especially Utah) on the road. Colorado will be tough, playing a 9pm MT game vs Utah on Thursday and then Saturday game @ 6pm MT.
Very little rest and a lot of travel. UCLA only won by 5 at Utah, and 6 at Colorado.

Getting blown out vs Tennessee > Wins
The short turnaround game vs Colorado is the one I'm keeping my eye on. Especially if Utah takes us to the wire because they're playing like the '96 Bulls.
Too much time to prepare and rest for that one.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Auburn has lost twice and still a number one - Gonzaga and AZ could both lose and still be a number one. every other team would have to win every other game remaining and Arizona and Gonzaga would have to lose again in the regular season for it to be an issue, and thats assuming the other top teams dont lose.
Gonzaga has an insurmountable lead and unless Arizona drops the homestand finale against cal&stanford or bombs on the mountain swing, are in fantastic shape.
just beat Utah

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
The flaw in your argument is that Auburn losing to a quad 1 ranked team (like Arkansas) is not the same thing (by a mile) as Gonzaga losing to a WCC team or AZ losing to a Utah team ranked 122 in the NET rankings. We will be blown off the 1 line should we lose to Utah this week.97cats wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 10:26 am Auburn has lost twice and still a number one - Gonzaga and AZ could both lose and still be a number one. every other team would have to win every other game remaining and Arizona and Gonzaga would have to lose again in the regular season for it to be an issue, and thats assuming the other top teams dont lose.

I should've been clearer: I am assuming we win our final two games at McKale vs. Cal and Stanford. It's hard for me to envision losing to either of those teams, provided we give even an average performance.
As 97 and others have been saying, AZ is set up beautifully to lock up a #1 over the next two weeks. We control our own fate, and that's where you want to be.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I agree we control our fate and if we win out we have it in the bag. If we don't and others do we wont be a 1 seed. I don't think it matters other than bragging rights.

Let's just say we *do* drop one this week. If we win @USC, I think it negates the additional loss, and we're right back on the #1 line. its all screen away pretty basic but run really sharp and well - the duck under action is really effective.
when i watched that the first time i thought of Chi who has highlighted Tubelis doing that on several occasions successfully including at Illinois a few times.
its Lute Olson 2.0 for the most part wide open and free and player friendly.

NCAA basketball betting: Arizona, not Gonzaga, has received most national title bets
Sam Cooper
Mon, February 21, 2022, 10:34 AM·
Not much was expected from Arizona in its first year under Tommy Lloyd, but the Wildcats have emerged as a legitimate national championship threat as we approach the month of March.
Arizona opened the year with +5000 odds to win the national title at BetMGM. On the heels of being ranked No. 2 in the latest NET rankings, Arizona’s title odds are up to +800, tied with No. 3 Kentucky and trailing only No. 1 Gonzaga (+400).
On top of that, Arizona has received more national championship futures bets than any other team at BetMGM. Arizona has received 8.7% of the national title bets, just edging out Gonzaga (8.6%) and Kentucky (8.3%).
Gonzaga has received the most money — 11.5% of BetMGM’s total handle. Arizona is just behind the Bulldogs at 11.3%.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I was very optimistic about this season compared to some, but this has been a complete mind blow. What this team under this coach has accomplished this year is seriously mind boggling.
I thought we had a chance to win the pac12 but would probably be second or third. Not in my wildest dreams was there a 1 seed discussion or that we would be ranked #2 in every freaking metric and the AP poll, or have won like 93% of our games at this point in the season. Just un-freaking-real!!!
I will also say, I love our former players who are coaches, and I am not saying that one of them would not have accomplished this much, but with all of the drama and hot seats that alumni player coaches are dealing with and how difficult it is to make the situation better, I am so glad we didn't go that route. Not just cause we are absolutely killing it right now, but you hate to hear about how Georgetown fans hope that Ewing quits after this year so they don't have to get rid of him next year.
The only alumni coach I would not have been worried about is Kerr, and still, NBA and college are so different, I can even see that having gone bad in some horribly perverse reality.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Branden Carlson (7'0 center from South Jordan, Utah) is the only player for the Utes to avg double figures this season - he missed time and did not play in the first meeting in Tucson. not sure if hes playing yet but if he does Lloyd will have to account for him.
update here:
Game-time decision
February 22, 2022
Carlson (ankle) is day-to-day with an ankle injury and will likely be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against Arizona, Josh Furlong of KSL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Carlson, who missed five games early in the season with an abdomen injury, is a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup with Arizona. The 7-foot junior has started 19 games this season, putting up 13.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.7 blocks on 25.6 minutes per game. Utah will hope to have their big man active as they take on a tough Arizona squad.

What do you guys think of the Elan Ending as a possibility? At the first break with under 4 minutes in the game (3 minutes in the NBA), the game clock turns off. The winning final score is 7 + the score of the team with the lead, and the game ends when whichever team reaches that final score.
I want it.
