It's coming back to me now. We also used to compare Stanley Johnson to Truck Robinson in that kind of hypothetical, esoteric way that I, for example, might compare to Gloria Esteban.

If the Suns v Dubs game is cancelled tomorrow I'm gonna go full Boomer Karen. It's bad enough that annually I must suffer a protracted yammering christian ritual in all its capitalistic and culturally chauvinistic manifestations, but basketball is SACRED FUCKING GROUND!

Sounds like a vote of confidence will be coming any day now.
Re: Lakers
Magic believes Russell played his best game as a Laker Vs the Hornets last night. So it's fitting LA ends up losing, with Russ missing the last shot on a three that would've won the game at the buzzer. On the other hand, both Lebron and AD were sidelined.

Re: Lakers
Glad they are out. What a disappointing season and they don't even get a chance at the lottery because that pick is with Pelicans.
Major decisions around the coach and the supporting cast around AD and Lebron are forthcoming.

They need to blow it up and move forward without all these has-beens and porcelain dolls.

Maybe they can get something for AD, but they would be selling low and no way anyone takes on the Westbrook contract. He is more likely going to get paid to sit there like John Wall.

Re: Lakers
They have no way to make any moves without trading THT or Westbrook. Ive been saying this for a while now, but Pelinka, and LeGM, destroyed any chance the Lakers had to make quality upgrades via trade. They traded anyone with a decent sized contract, which you need to match contracts via trade, to pool everything into Westbrook. They let Caruso walk, because they didnt think he was worth the deal, and they wanted to keep THT.
What you are left with is the inability to execute trades, due to salary matching, which leads to massive roster turnover because everyone is on the minimum. Things arent going to be much different this summer/season unless they can spin Westbrook into multiple players, and they upgrade via THT in a trade.
Meanwhile, the Clippers keep paying guys, then trading for upgrades, and have virtually no assets either. One team understand roster contraction and the other is a disaster.

Re: Lakers
Their best option is what Chicat said.
Not sure anyone is taking Westbrook, but maybe the Knicks could, so, I’ll explore that later.
But I’d trade LeBron/Tucker to Warriors for Wiggins, Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody.
Then look at shipping Davis somewhere for picks/players.
Right now Lakers have almost 130 million in LeBron, Westbrook, Davis. Impossible to build around that.
Davis Atlanta makes a ton of sense. Get Collins/Huerter or Collins/Hunter/1st. Davis doesn’t need to play C, with Capela on the roster, and Okwongu as backup.
Lakers then have a ludicrous defensive identity with:
Westbrook
Huerter, Moody
Wiggins
Kuminga,
Collins, Wiseman
It’s not going to be good, but have a few 1sts included, try to rehab Westbrook’s value for the year and terrorize folks with athleticism and defense and try to sell high on Westbrook’s half season at the deadline for a few more 1sts or assets.
Then hope Collins can take a leap, and Kuminga and Wiseman can hit long-term.
Acquiring Davis was always smart. But Lakers did not handle their roster well in the years prior with Randle and Russell and some of the signings. Had they handled better, they’d probably still have either Russell or Ingram or Ball and Kuzma.
Oh well, honestly, not sure the lot of any of this is world changing, but at least they are pieces with upside and create flexibility.

I should have known better when I thought the end would bring merciful relief to the Lakers. When will the press stop dragging their lifeless body around the walls of Troy? Is there no other basketball to talk about?

For all the criticism of Westbrook (and, yes, trade him) at least he plays the games. Can't say that for other household Laker names.

He’s trying to sabotage whatever trade value he might have had just to punish the Lakers. It’s working
Re: Lakers
Lakers were trending a lot better, winning 5 of their last 6 until blowing a 17 point lead last night to the Pacers. With both James and Davis on the floor.

Beat the Bucks tonight also
Re: Lakers
Damn that was an entertaining game but you can't blow a 12 point lead with 3 minutes to go.
Re: Lakers
Lebron with 47 on his 38th birthday in a win over the Hawks last night. 1 assist shy of a triple double. He only needs 528 points to pass Kareem for the all-time NBA scoring record.

Re: Lakers
Ironic Brooks threw out the “dropping 40” line and that’s how much his team got squashed by.
The Lakers will be a tough out mostly because there will be more days off for AD and Lebron.

Couldn't watch game one. Was the foul disparity legit?

Half of the Warriors shots (53 of them) were 3 pointers. Lakers only attempted 25 3's.dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 9:52 pm Couldn't watch game one. Was the foul disparity legit?
Plus the Lakers are much bigger and tried to take advantage by taking it to the rim.

Re: Lakers
I watched from the second quarter through the end and only saw two foul calls the refs legit missed. Otherwise the warriors were doing everything and anything to shove the Lakers out of the paint and got called on it. Next time defend without fouling and you’ll have nothing to complain about.

Re: Lakers
What's crazy to me is that, prior to last night, the Lakers and Warriors hadn't met in the playoffs since 1991. You'd think they'd have been going at it in the West more frequently, as they did in the 60's and 70's. But, despite the Lakers' 12 titles in LA, they've only been to the title game recently with the wins in 2020 (Heat) and 2010 (Celtics.) Meanwhile, the Kerr-Curry-Thompson-Green-Looney combination has gone 6 times with 4 rings, but only starting in 2015. Prior to that, you've got to go back 40 years to Rick Barry in 1975. So they've pretty much missed each other during their peak years. And some trivia about the 1975 Warrior team. Despite moving to Oakland in 1971 from the old (still standing) Cow Palace in Daly City, where they'd played since moving from Philadelphia in 1962, the Warriors had to go back to the Cow Palace for the 1975 finals. The reason was because the management of the arena in Oakland didn't think they'd get that far and booked the Ice Capades.

Re: Lakers
Lackluster performance by the Lake Show and getting out rebounded by 15 is unacceptable when they have such a size advantage. Also gave up 84 points between quarters 2 and 3. Dubs thumped them.
Oh and the whistles evened out. What a shock.
Got the split on the road. Let’s see if their effort improves at home.

I don't really like LeBron, but he's still got it. He isn't the finisher he used to be but he's impressive at 38. Respect.

Re: Lakers
Impressive performance tonight, considering ESPN said the Lakers playoff run was done after losing in SF. Really dislike the ESPN announcing crew. The former Knick PBP guy, their former coach, and a former Knick player. Somebody in Bristol must think that's great; for a team that's won two titles in it's history. Thanks, Clyde. Breen was disliked on the Don Imus show years ago, and he said all kinds of stuff about women's sports that would get him fired today. And Jackson with his "Lay-Kuhhz" drives me up a wall. Send him to a 7th grade speech class where he has to act like a pirate and say "ARRRRRHH" over and over. Regardless, I've been watching the Lakers since Jerry West's quest for a title, starting in 1969-70 (yes, painful) for me.
