My son and I have been debating going. I'm leaning towards saving my money and vacation time for the bowl game.
He and 3 of his buddies are still contemplating making the drive.

Not just you Salty, saw a couple of Tucson pundits make that mistake too. I guess since I used to live there it just seems silly that people call the Bay Area "San Francisco". San Jose is actually a bigger city than SF in terms of population, besides size. Even in different counties.
Just a side note, people in the Bay Area don't even call San Francisco "San Francisco". It's "The City". What are you doing this weekend? Oh, going to the city to do some shopping.
And it's never ever "Frisco". That's a small town in Texas.
Do people in SoCal feel the same way?
Dude, what you doing this weekend?
Going down to LA to see Disneyland at Christmas.
Dude, Disneyland is in Orange County, not LA.
/rant off
I might have gone it it was Saturday, but have to work Friday.
Re: Road trip to San Fran
I've heard on groupon tickets are 49 dollars if you put your location in Santa Clara.. probably shitty tickets but it shouldn't be close to full so you can move downUAEebs86 wrote:Salty wrote:Anyone else going? Just bought tickets to the game. Should be leaving sometime Thursday evening.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
Short notice and on a Friday, wish I could go, no vacation time and I'm sure my boss would say no. Plus December 6th has been circled on my calendar for months.
Funny response, Merk. Some people from "Cali" get pissed when I refer certain areas that aren't what they are. I think people refer to the Bay as San Fransico because it's the most known city to those not in CA in that area. People I know refer to Phoenix as Arizona, so it happens.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
I just learned this yesterday. I moved my daughter from Eugene to SF in August. Was talking to her yesterday and she referred to The City and the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland), but she didn't know that the Cats were playing the Ducks in Santa Clara or where that was! I had to give her a hard time. She's only been out of college a few months and she's already stopped paying attention to the important stuff.Merkin wrote:Just a side note, people in the Bay Area don't even call San Francisco "San Francisco". This is where I'm at. I'd go in a heartbeat circumstances permitting, but if I can only do one then I think an upper-tier bowl game is where I want to go.UAEebs86 wrote:I'm leaning towards saving my money and vacation time for the bowl game.

I'll never understand this train of thought. I love basketball but historic postseason football >>>>>>>>>>>>>regular season basketball.
I couldn't make the trip Friday work with work/family either, unfortunately.

Well the Gonzaga game isn't the entire reason I'm not going, it's work tbh. If I could get out I would gladly Do a turn around trip. Still don't get why this game is on a Friday anyway. Didn't they learn from the Stanford/UCLA game?azthrillhouse wrote:Gonzaga?cats101 wrote:Plus December 6th has been circled on my calendar for months.

Just checked Stubhub to gauge how ticket sales are going, and there are A LOT of tickets on there starting at $28. They're all nosebleeds, but some in the 400-level midfield are around $50.btfd16 wrote:I've heard on groupon tickets are 49 dollars if you put your location in Santa Clara.. probably shitty tickets but it shouldn't be close to full so you can move downUAEebs86 wrote:Salty wrote:Anyone else going? It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

There'd probably be twice as many az fans there if it was on Saturday night. Sucks. I would've contemplated going (don't really have the money now since my xmas bonus isn't coming till late January) if it was Saturday. I am out of PTO for the year so Friday wasn't ever an option.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
Agreed.....if it was on Saturday I would most likely be going. But....as we've seen, Larry Scott is always going to value TV revenue over the fan experience - I presume the reason it's on Friday is because FOX wanted to have content in that time slot without competition from other games.cats101 wrote:Well the Gonzaga game isn't the entire reason I'm not going, it's work tbh. Re: Road trip to San Fran
Anything more than 2/3 full in the stadium would be a win for the Pac 12. Especially since there's possible rain in the forecast I'm starting to think that the stadium will be like half full with only a couple thousand (less than 5k) Arizona fans
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.
i'll just go with fuck asu.

I might have gone it it was Saturday, but have to work Friday.
30min to SF = San Jose
Work in Napa Valley = Vallejo
Gorgeous city views = Hayward/Fremont
Driving distance to The City = Petaluma/Santa Rosa
All fine places mind you, but not San Francisco.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
I'm a bad fan.
After the UCLA loss, I didn't think the CATS had a chance to win the south, so I scheduled interviews around Thanksgiving to double dip with family time. Had I known...wow, I would be there.
The placement of the billboards for the game were super lame: East bay freeway, and maybe one on the 280. Nothing in Marin, SF, Oakland, Berkeley, or the other places where I was. Several of my family members are going though, so that will be cool.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
That being said, I am pulling for the Rose if CATS win and Cotton Bowl if the CATS don't make the playoffs. I got the ok from wife to spend spend spend.
Original itinerary: RDU 6am->DWF->SFO 12:10pm 1/1/15. (heading back for a few other business things)
Itinerary if CATS are in Rose/Cotton Bowl
Mrs. CST: RDU 6am->DWF->SFO 12:10pm 1/1/15.
If Rose:
CST: RDU 6am->DWF->walk wife and baby to SFO connecting flight->bye bye wife and baby->connecting flight to LAX-> taxi/bus/shuttle to Rose Bowl -> make 2pm kickoff -> get bombed and cheer for the CATS -> celebrate with CATS fans -> taxi/bus/shuttle to LAX or other airport -> pull it together for security ->SFO/Oak 11pm.
If Cotton:
CST: RDU 6am->DWF->walk wife and baby to SFO connecting flight->bye bye wife and baby->taxi/bus/shuttle to Jerry World-> make 12:30 kickoff -> get bombed and cheer for the CATS -> celebrate with CATS fans -> taxi/bus/shuttle to DFW -> pull it together for security ->SFO 11pm.
Please CATS make this happen.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
We aren't going to Fiesta, right? I swear I heard that mentioned or saw it. Only chance is a win over Oregon and if don't make the playoff, right? No way we go there with a loss with the other teams that will be 1 or 2 losses above us.

You think they'll be more than ASUhaters 5K?
I do.
If 45K show, I think 15-17K are CATS fans (60/40 split in favor if oregon is my prediction). Curious if it's correct.

Biggest game in UA history. Really wish I could have worked it out with work.
Bear Down Arizona and beat the Ducks!
If you are in PHX, K O'Donnell's, Arcadia Tavern or Zipps in Chandler are the places to be for the game.

I thought that at first too, but as arrogant as they are a lot of them may wait to spend their money on the playoffs.

Re: Road trip to San Fran
Nah, that's not how that stuff works. Divide the state in half. NorCal (the better part), northern half. SoCal bottom half. Central Valley has a bit in the top half, but central California is mostly considered SoCal. My cutoff is basically around Santa Cruz (aka the biggest city farthest south in what I'd consider "NorCal").Merkin wrote:Or LoCal, SoCal, and NoCal respectively.DkuruptCAT wrote:To me California is made up of 3 citys, San Diego, LA and San Francisco...
