Only player in the country to average 20 and 10. All American and he likely would go I drafted and have to go overseas to play. Amazing times we live in for sure. Universities finding ways to pay players from going professional.

Anyone have a problem with the math of 1000 giving $50/mo = 5000/mo? Not a math major.azcat49 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:08 am “We’re going to have to have some major players in the beginning to get these programs started, but over time we would like to leverage all of Illini nation,” McDonald said. “The math works pretty easy. If you had 1,000 donors — basketball fans — give $50 a month that’s $5,000 a month that could go to the basketball program.”
The initial goal for the Illini Guardians, though, is 1,000 donors that give $500 a month. That would generate an initial pool of $6 million for the year.
“That’s kind of our first goal to get it up and going,” McDonald said. “Then you have a very good budget for your entire NIL program.”

I found this article interesting concerning Kofi Cockburn of Illinois. It said he was projected as a late 2nd rounder and Illinois is trying to mobilize funds to bring him back to school.
We have the “Friends of Wilbur and Wilma” program providing opportunities for our kids. It seems that having a pool of funds where you can tie these kids into local charities and pay them from that pool of funds will be the new norm in college athletics

uuuuuuuh...
... don't forget to count the zeros.
1000 x $50 = $50,000

I think the goal outlined was to seed the pot with 6m. 1000 giving $500 a month for 12 months. Then have a much larger base (10k I assume) give $50 a month.
I saw where the football program handed out 1000 coffee/cooler mugs with a juice county slogan on it at the spring game. I would assume those kids we recruited from there made some money from the sales of those mugs they bought and then handed out.
I saw they are rewarding all athletes with up to 6k for academic achievement and progress for their degrees. Given almost 500 athletes across our campus that translates to potentially 3m being handed out. That can’t come from the general athletic budget?
Interesting times indeed

“NIL opportunities weren’t supposed to be dangled as recruiting inducements for transfers or high school players but … wouldn’t you know it … are being dangled as recruiting inducements for transfers and high school players.”
As this article points out, paying players under NIL has gone wonky and it theorizes that the PAC may cease to exist unless things are checked to create a level playing field

Re: Goin Pro Thread
I’m not sure that going back to under the table inducements to recruits and transfers is really the answer.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: Goin Pro Thread
Heck no, these kids deserve to be paid. For me though, it seems schools are taking the easy way forward and the rich will get richer athletically speaking.
The kids should get assisted in helping them market their NIL. It should not be an inducement to go to the school. I saw one school is paying each offensive lineman 50k this year.
There should be business models and execution assistance. No free lunch. It mentioned the PAC schools will be the best in following the spirit of the rule but in doing so will fall further behind the other P5 conferences. That it a big concern

Count me among the Chet skeptics. I cannot see this guy being an impact player in the NBA.

NBA drafts on potential.
Caleb love is great, but we know who he is, bronny is Lebron's son, there's potential there.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Actually think Bronny's game is much better suited for the pros than college.
