Re: Bring on the Ducks
I hate the ducks almost as much as ASSU. I think we have a real shot in this one. Should be fun to see how Lanning tries to defend our receivers

If you guys think we have a chance against the Ducks, me think that's the hopeium talking. We can't stop the run and Oregon is going to make us pay dearly
Re: Bring on the Ducks
Last two home games vs the ducks we have scored over 40 and beat them badly. One of those teams was a Sumlin team. Strange things happen to Oregon when they come to Arizona and play

Re: Bring on the Ducks
How about that Mike Stoops' team when the fans were ready to rush the field, and Stoops decided to put in the prevent defense end of the 3Q?
Like Lou Holtz always said, the prevent defense only prevents winning.

Re: Bring on the Ducks
That game is a W if Juron Criner is the target on that late post pattern instead of Terrell Turner. Not sure if that was a senior night move or not but that end zone bobble represents the difference between (+ the subsequent inability of Vuna to stay home on the zone read or of anyone to cover Ed Dickson) Arizona going to the Rose Bowl against an injured Terrell Pryor vs the Nebraska pissed off, historically great defense in San Diego.
I've gotten to know some Oregon guys who were on the team from 07-2012, and they all say that as soon as those idiots hopped the wall they knew that they were going to win.

Re: Bring on the Ducks
If he didn't catch it, that would have been fine, but to have it bounce out of his hands and turn into an interception was unforgivable. One of the 5 worst plays in the history of Arizona football, and it happened right in front of us.Fendicent4ever wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 7:28 pm That game is a W if Juron Criner is the target on that late post pattern instead of Terrell Turner. Well, it's not pretty. In addition to what you see here, they've got a lot of people they can bring off the shelf to plug-and-play. Nix is a tough RPO QB, and just to make it fun, he occasionally gets off punts on those fourth downs on the other team's forty. It's hard to believe what Georgia did to them in Atlanta in their opener. Since then, they've averaged 50 PPG (partly propped-up with 70 against Eastern Washington.) But still, a composite 43-29 against BYU and Stanford in Eugene, and against Washington St in Pullman. You never know, and I'm sure the Wildcats will put up an all-out effort. It's the next game and all that, but it's also the best opportunity at home for an upset prior to the back-to-back trek to Seattle. Just a brutal stretch of schedule. Hopefully Tucson will turn out. Hard to see it, and it could easily turn dark and ugly, but that would definitely be worthy of rushing the field if they could pull it off.

One important reason we beat Oregon at Eugene in 2014 was the fact that they were missing 3 starting offensive lineman. When they later played us in the PAC12 Championship (with the 3 starters back on the field) they kicked our ass.

Hearing the Oregon ticket sales are very high. Might be a sellout. Hoping Lucy doesn’t show up to hold that football for Chuck

Re: Oregon Scout
Yeah, I was there for that; really embarrassing. Stoops made a habit of knocking off a UCLA or Oregon every year, so the field rush became way too much of a planned thing, and when you're succeeding with that frequency, you should act like you've been there. But the fact that we're even having the discussion is testimony to our improved situation. (Cue Jim Carrey: "So you're telling me there's a chance?") My thing is that I like college football and basketball partly because the athletes and students aren't jaded old fans like the situation in the pro ranks. I've experienced all the ups and downs and story lines at the UofA since 1973. Pretty hard for anything to be completely new. But for the current players and students, the only Arizona football they've experienced is losing, so they haven't been there. We'll agree to disagree on this one, but aside from stupidly not waiting for the final gun in a close game, when there's a truly spontaneous reaction to success after all the suffering, I'd be the last person to put a damper on a post-game celebration.Merkin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 3:06 pmNo! I totally agree that if we pull off a stunner vs Oregon or any other top tier team at home... the fans should be able to do what ever the fuck they want.... we haven't exactly had much to celebrate in a long time.

Re: Bring on the Ducks
Yeah, I only put Oregon behind ASU for having a-hole fans.
I'm talking visiting fans, where you should be expected to root for your team, but not go out of your way to act like you're in the WWF inciting the opposition because you expect to be protected. A number of fans of some of the Pac-12's teams just don't travel, and the historically more downtrodden teams (Colorado, Oregon St, Cal) seem to have a resulting dose of humility. For USC, it's just their band, but with the sound level in Arizona Stadium now, you don't even really hear them, no matter where they sit. But the relatively nouveau riche (since 1990 with Knight money) whores at Oregon are bad. Big mouths and insecure for attention. And part of it is institutional. Like when their cheerleaders left their designated area and came over to taunt our student section when they won. A provoked and disgruntled fan threw a water bottle at them (NOT okay), and it caught some gal on the shoulder. Of course, an international incident ensued, with the FBI investigating and congressional hearings. A formal apology was delivered from the State Dept. through a neutral country, and war was averted. So, the next time they came, they won again, and did the same thing, only with school-provided yellow hard hats. Oh-so-clever. Only, as is always the case, if visiting fans (and cheerleaders) don't act like complete assholes, nobody ever has any problem in Tucson...so WE actually deserved apologies, if there were going to be any.
Whatever; you can't buy class.

The Nebraska fan base has a reputation for being passionate but polite and cool to other fans. I've seen and experienced it on two separate occasions when attending bowl games in which the Huskers were playing. Taught me alot about how we should act. .
I'm a Husker fan now just because of the way they've acted toward me.

I'm guessing that's supposed to be "speckled duck eggshell", but that's no less dumb. I'm glad we've taken a position of more traditional pro-like branding consistency with Nike's "creative team." Just not impressed with what they come up with. We've got great school colors, but their efforts for us were always awful. And frankly, I can't think of a team where a revolving door of uniform changes particularly works, and no classic team...college or pro...does it. It's not Mr. Blackwell...it's football.

Great to see a big crowd but I don’t get the pricing on some of those tickets. Those west side seats are $146 a seat! That is a ridiculous amount at this point of the rebuild.
I also hope we are not jacking them up for parents weekend? Prices that high does little to help engage a frustrated fan base

All that’s left now to do is win.
Although I don’t think that will happen. I think we are still a year away from pulling off that kind of upset.

Nansen should be embarrassed. Tackling is fundamental.
McLachlen stunk up the place and needs to refrain from reading his press clippings. He's a good kid though and will likely rebound.
Credit to Oregon's DBs. They seemed to have our receiving corps well covered.
Still hoping for an upset as we move forward.

Re: Bring on the Ducks
I don't think anyone thought we would beat the Ducks. The final score was indicative of how far we still need to go.
I'm not upset. I'm not blaming the DC. I'm not calling out the players or pouting over missed tackles (btw I call bullshit when people say the players are not being taught how to tackle - better players have been breaking tackles since Bronko Nagurski).
The schedule is daunting still moving forward so expect a few of these outcomes. Udub might be a game we can steal. Utah & USC are given, and now so looks like UCLA too.
Udub, Cougs, and ASSU will determine how successful a season we have imo.
