Only two teams have more quad 1 wins than we do.

I hope they are just as hungry for this Washington trip next week.
Also, I just realized we only played 7 today. Wow.

The last thing I wanted to see was Bal or Veersaar handling the ball against that D. We turned it over enough as it was.

Fuck me! I'm too old for this new math.

Just bad decision making in general. He leads the PAC in assists, at least until UCLA, but he has been averaging 3 TO a game the last stretch.RawleArenas wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:31 pm KK still has maturity issues. If we had a mature guard, even with our athleticism deficits, we could do a lot of damage.
He does make 3s at the best time, which is probably the best thing I can say about him. But imagine Boswell will start next season, and Kriisa will move to 2.

Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
So next year our starting lineup is Ballo, Tubelis, Pelle, Kerr, and Boz?
Ps, didn't see the whole game, but Pelle has been more aggressive and I like it.
Heard something on the radio or a podcast they were talking about him and a swedish journalist said that he was "too damn swedish"
Like he's too nice, wants to make sure everyone gets their run. Glad he's becoming more American and selfish.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

We're still doing a lot of damage despite our deficits. I'm not giving up on this team. Everybody has to play smarter and give maximum effort. That's our key to success this season.
Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
The tournament feels very up in the air this year in that just about anyone can make a run. Why not us?

The teams I don't want to face are Houston, TCU or Xavier. Not afraid of Purdue or Kansas.

If we are playing any of those teams in the tourney, good chance it’s an Elite Eight or Final Four matchup.
I’m good with facing them…. Bring them on…
Even Houston.

Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
Bring on all of those teams. I think Houston is the worst matchup for us in the entire field. The last 2 games our defense has really been impressive.

Not that anyone cares but the coaches poll dropped us 2 spots
Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
The coach's' poll moved us UP 3 spots - 11 -> 8
The AP poll moved us UP 5 spots - 11 -> 6

Vegas doesn't try to predict the actual score, they predict voting patterns so the bets are 50/50 each team. Until the sharps come in.

I'm also loving seeing Pelle strong to the hoop more.
I might be wrong, seems like more, maybe I just want to see more of it so I'm looking harder, but that was a strong dunk down along the baseline last night. Like to see that.
Boswell looking really good, can't wait til next year, I hope we can keep him for his jr. yr also.
Love it when Kerr is hitting!!

I think those are really critical when opponents are shutting down our transition game and extending the defense on the perimeter! Great counter to what's becoming the main defensive strategy being deployed against us....U.P. Zona Fan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 6:43 am I'm also loving seeing Pelle strong to the hoop more.

Our new biggest game of the year and toughest for a month is this Thursday night against Oregon. They will be motivated to move into a tie for second and we need this game for confidence and to prove to ourselves that we can handle good big men. I expect both teams to be motivated.
Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
I'm just going to say it. That 2nd half was the best I have EVER seen Arizona play against a zone defense. I've watched since they played in Bear Down with the kiddie corp.. Anyone know of a better? It is a combination of great passing big men and the fact we could make them pay with the outside shot.
Great scheme by Tommy and the rest of the coaching staff.

Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
I can't recall ever seeing an Arizona team pivot like this.
We start out as a run and gun, outscore you kind of squad. It's working like gangbusters then suddenly it's not working at all. We get embarrassed twice in a row and then voila we're a grind it out elite defensive team with some spurtability. Obviously it's a small sample size so it may not be sustainable. I hope it is bc this most recent version may go places.

I agree. Pelle’s offense is much better when he’s using his athleticism to drive to the basket. I really believe he’d be better offensively if he works on getting easy points around the basket and then taking some outside shots.U.P. We're 19-3, Tennessee is 18-3. We beat them.
They have three wins over teams currently ranked in the top 25 of NET: 8, 9, and 38.
We have five such wins: 2, 5, 18, 20 and 23.
Why are they ranked ahead of us again?
Also, how is ucla ahead of us in NET?

Wilner is ranking these teams based on how he thinks they'll finish the season, not based on what's so far transpired. I don't know how else to explain ucla ahead of us in any ranking right now.

Arkansas is what got me too. Very athletic team but has a ways to go to be a good basketball team.
Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
Polls are mostly meaningless. The only benefit is a little more exposure as your scores are included in TOP 25 scrolls.
As for NET, UCLA is ranked ahead of us because their cupcakes were a little less fattening than ours. In Q3 and Q4 games, UCLA is 7-0 and we are currently 9-0. All of UCLA's losses are Q1, and we have a Q2 loss. These minor differences are why they are ranked ahead of us. But remember, NET isn't a Bible; it's just a guide the committee uses. And our 7 Q1 wins stand out more than UCLA's 4 Q1 wins, which is why, as of today, we'd probably be seeded higher.

Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
Question:
When Ballo got fouled and they called a Flagrant 1….
Did he make the shot? I thought he did.
If he made it, why wasn’t there an And 1 and the 2 shots for Flagrant? Or if he missed, 2 shots plus 2 for Flagrant?
I thought the flagrant is a separate foul i.e. Krissa’s foul at mid court.

It's going to be interesting if AZ wins the Pac reg season title but ucla wins the Pac tourney, or vice versa. If both teams have otherwise similar metrics, it's gonna be really close for who gets placed in that West region. Feel like it matters more this year being in Vegas. AZ fans would turn that city red for the weekend.

Do you think they'd put Zona and UCLA as 1&2 in the same region? I know you can't see conference foes til the sweet 16, but how often do they make the 1&2 seed in a region from the same conf?

They wouldn’t do that especially with the PAC having so few teams in.

Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any restriction on seeding two teams from the same league as "protected" seeds (1-4) in the same region. So in theory, AZ and ucla could be seeded in the same region, maybe as the 2 and 4 or something. In the current Bracketology, they've got Kansas and Baylor in the Midwest region, and they've got Texas and Iowa St. in the East.U.P. Re: The 2022-2023 Season Thread
The rule used to be no teams from the same conference until the Elite 8. That rule was scrapped a few years ago. Now, it's possible that teams can meet earlier. I think it's more of an unwritten rule that if there are less than 4 teams from the same conference, they go into no less than 3 separate brackets. And this year, it's highly unlikely the PAC gets more than 4, with 3 being more likely.
Bottom line is they aren't going to put us and UCLA in the same bracket this year. We could be both be sent to Sacramento, however, as first weekend sites are based on geography of the protected seed. Denver is the other first weekend site, and currently, ESPN has both of us going to Sac, with us being the #2 seed in the west. It also wouldn't surprise me if we get sent to Denver instead, and Gonzaga gets to go to Sac.

In 2021, the 2 and 4 seeds in the South region were from the Big 10, and the 3 and 4 seeds in the Midwest were from the Big 12.
So...I'm not wrong.
That year Michigan #1, Illinois #1, Ohio State #2, Iowa #2, and Purdue #4 were top 16 seeds so yeah, you cant have UCLA and UA in the same region this year
