Re: Conference Realignment
I mean, you could have the entire states of Colorado, Utah, and Arizona as your markets, or you could have Fresno.

The idea that Canzano makes shit up is so stupid. Completely telling on yourself being a Scheer and Luke fanboy

It was reported Washington and Oregon met with B1G representatives about joining the league. The numbers didn't work out and B1G Presidents decided to stand pat at the moment.CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 4:15 pmYou keep talking like you’ve got something besides your gut emotions. The only thing we ever heard was that the B1G was no longer interested in pursuing any other teams except maybe Notre Dame after they added USC/UCLA. You have now created a story in your mind where UO/UW “petitioned” to join as well and were turned down flat.
It’s all in your head, but you’ll come back talking like you know what Oregon wants. What Phil Knight wants. What the B1G Commissioner wants (pssst… there isn’t one). What prominent people are lobbying for. How Amazon views the current marketplace. Whether Sasquatch is a UW or WSU fan and if he’ll accept them splitting up into different conferences.
It’s not real. It’s just your synapses misfiring.

Rumor is, the math didn't work out. UW and Oregon wouldn't add value. Not would they dilute B1G value.
There have been zero meetings between Oregon and or UW and the BIG12. There likely never be any.

Re: Conference Realignment
Of course you don't like people that are for leaving the PAC. It goes against the narrative you are for. Yeah Big12 is totally in talks with Fresno. The fact that you automatically start to spaz out with every mention or even a little hint of Scheer is telling.
Lets see if you can control yourself this time...

Re: Conference Realignment
You are so incredibly wrong it is incredible. I have zero narrative. I have zero desire except for wanting to have all options on the table when Robins and Heeke make their decision. That is it.
Luke and Scheer have hated on Canzano for months now. Canzano does not make shit up. He is told things from his sources and he reports on that. You can say it is biased towards the PAC-12 since it is coming from AD and Presidents who want to stay in the PAC-12 but he aint making shit up or "getting it wrong". The hate for Canzano is just proof of fanboying those two and not actually thinking rationally or independently

The fact you even said his sources are biased and have a narrative to push and you still fight for his honor is kinda funny. Hating on Canzano is fair game, but the information he reported makes perfect sense. Yomarck is a Corp Dev guy - he's going to take meetings with schools he has no interest in because it's a chance to learn more about what they are thinking, hearing, etc. You learn from your team, your advisors, and what others are saying in the market. Guys with his background feel negligent if they aren't engaged in folks looking to do deals as that's one of the best times to find out competitive intel.AzCatFan2 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 3:12 pm From Canzano, the BIG12 is talking with Boise St and Fresno St., plus Gonzaga for basketball only. Re: Conference Realignment
From the article: "• For the Pac-12, the expansion decision will be driven by media value. The conference needs to add TV households and inventory to replace the loss of USC and UCLA. San Diego's TV market would add 1.13 million households. DFW would add nearly 3 million TV households. Yes, I know that neither school traditionally brings huge ratings, but again, expansion is about adding media markets."
"On that note, Houston has 2.45 million television households. It's why I keep thinking about Rice University as a possible Pac-12 addition. The academic profile of Rice fits. If the Pac-12 is serious about SMU, I wonder if Rice becomes the travel partner."
1.This is also how media guys thing about the market. Tradition, rivalries, etc. are great, but potential household viewership matters more (and is often wildly miscalculated).
2. Schools like Stanford & Cal likely see SMU and Rice as acceptable peers - not commuter schools like SDSU and UNLV.

Do they do rifle, which is an NCAA sport?
PAC-12 does the same thing. Cal Poly SLO, CSU Bakersfield and UALR all wrestle in the PAC. Tough to field all those teams from member institutions due to Title IX.

PAC presidents haven't even voted yet, and they need 8 out of 10 votes to get in.

Re: Conference Realignment
So to recap, according to sources.... its looking like AZ is either:
Staying in the Pac as is
Staying in the Pac adding teams like SDSU, SMU, UNLV
Moving to the Big 12
Merging the Pac with the Big 12
Merging the Pac with the ACC
I'm glad this is clear

Just don’t get all these rumors. First the Presidents meet in Tempe and GK gives them info which seems to point at needed expansion.
Then he goes to Dallas to meet with SMU after having met in December with SDST. Now reports are that these two schools can’t get enough votes to enter? Why have him go on the goose chase if they didn’t want them in the first place.
Next was reports GK offered an olive brand to BY to talk mergers with the BIG 12 but Furd and Cal want no part of it supposedly. Could this thing be more F’ed up?

It may be your decision, but to say it's the "only option" is untrue.

Re: Conference Realignment
I think any deal that includes the Pac-12 Network remaining can be good for the network. Nothing says that it would operate the same way it's operating now. The Pac should think about reducing it down to maybe just two channels and do what they can to get them on streaming platforms.

That is correct, you can get the PAC-12 Network on Dish, but I prefer streaming over satellite. I just turn Sling TV on for football and basketball season, then turn it off. I stream everything outside of UA sports and the local news, since I hate commercials.

Don't take anything that MHver guy says at gospel or factual stuff. Only pay attention to the actual numerous media outside of Pac 12 country that's reporting the TV deal on the table for the Pac 12 is bad. Also what intrigues me is Mandel saying there's a possibility that ESPN/Amazon team up on the Big 12 expansion foot as opposed to going with the Pac 12.azcat49 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:28 am Just don’t get all these rumors. Re: Conference Realignment
Gotta laugh at Stanford and Cal going to the Mountain West. That is the least plausible scenario I have seen yet. They have a better chance to go to the Big 10.
Re: Conference Realignment
Stanford and CAL would rather go independent before they aligned themselves with Mountain West Schools. And while athletically, Stanford isn't worth as much as UW and Oregon, and CAL, a far distance back, academically, the Bay Areas have a lot of clout. If the B1G could get the two Bays and Oregon and UW at a discount, I think they take all four.
I've also heard that NBC isn't completely out either. Their contract with Notre Dame runs out in 2024, and no guarantee NBC re-ups for the cost. They could pay less for a PAC-12 game and get a lot more content. NBC might also be looking at games on USA, which already airs Premiere League Soccer games and some other sports.

I have no idea why NBC would re-sign Notre Dame.
Of course I said the same thing the last time negotiations came up.
In fact, I think I wondered as a child why they signed them in the first place.

Re: Conference Realignment
I didn't say they were going to the Big 10. Just that they had a better chance of going to the Big 10 than the MWC.
So even a 1% chance of getting in the B1G is still greater than a 0.0001% chance for the MWC.
Stanford has had a lock or near lock on the Director's Cup for the most championships in all sports for many years. Even the 2 years they didn't get it they came in 2nd.
Also the academics of both Bay Area schools are well renowned, and the Big 10 has the best academic rating of any major conference.
