Re: Lets Talk '24
Seems this next year will need to a big year recruiting wise with the loss of He Derain, Ramey and potentially Tubelis.
The younger guys have not come along as fast (although Veesaar will be good) as I think they had hoped.
Seems like we will need at least two guys from the portal again but we need more of our recruits to step up longer term

I really like Thomas's game. He's got some CP3 floor general vibes. Also a big fan of Diallo, but seems like he's Gonzaga's to lose.

Bryant is visiting Gonzaga February 11th and will visit us February 25th when we play ASU.
Re: Lets Talk '24
Sebastian Rancik should be a lock to debut in the next update of the 247Sports Top 150 Player Rankings for the national 2024 class. This past weekend after visiting UCLA for its game against Washington State on Saturday, the 6-foot-9, versatile four-man picked up an offer from the Bruins after an in-person conversation with Mick Cronin.
“The coaches and I have been in contact for a while now,” Rancik said on the offer. “I went to their game on Saturday. After their game, Coach Cronin and I were talking in the locker room and that is where it happened. It was a dream come true. UCLA is a big school that has achieved a lot in the past and now. It is an elite program and I am really happy about the offer.”
In addition to UCLA, Rancik says Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, and Virginia are high-major programs that have recently been recruiting him the hardest. He discussed his thoughts on each program with 247Sports:
Arizona: “Jack Murphy reached out a week ago. I like how European they are on their roster and with their style of play. That really sticks out to me and I find it fascinating.”
Colorado: “Bill Grier and Tad Boyle have been awesome. The talks with them are great. They have been introducing me to their culture and we have been on the phone a lot.”
Nebraska: “I talk to Nate Loenser from there. He has been showing me everything about their program and its culture. It has been really cool.”
Virginia: “I talk to Johnny Carpenter and Kyle Getter. They have a winning culture and how they develop their players stands out to me.”
The attention from high-major programs is still fairly new to Rancik and he has not yet thought about a timeframe for a list cut or a decision. However, when the time comes, Rancik says his main focus will be on his development within a program.
“I want to play in a winning culture for a coach who cares about me and will push me,” Rancik said. “I want to work harder than I ever have before because that will get me better.
Rated a three-star prospect, Rancik is currently ranked the No. 26 power forward in the 247Sports Positional Rankings.

Most of the story is behind a paywall. Evidently we are at least still on his list.

3. Which college coach would you say you’ve formed the closest relationship with and why?

I had no idea we were recruiting this kid (maybe we aren't) but he threw Arizonas name out in this interview. I wonder if the interviewer mixed up Arizona & asu.
PI: What’s your recruitment update? :
I got Kansas, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Georgetown. I got a few more, but that’s just off the ones [at the top of my head].

Here's a kid that is not being recruited by Arizona......but wants to be:
1. Which schools are recruiting you the hardest?
“USC, UCLA, Vanderbilt, and LMU.”
2. What schools would you like to visit?
“Besides the places I have offers to, it would be cool to visit Arizona or Texas.”

Gonna be hard to beat Gonzaga for Zoom, especially considering his dad’s situation.

Re: Lets Talk '24
Depends how you look at it, we already have a borderline top 25 guy committed and are probably going to land a top 5 ranked kid this upcoming weekend or shortly after. Boswell moving to 2022 from 2023 definitely hurt the reputation of that 2023 class though that's for sure.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:30 pmChoo, is it me or are we kind of getting our butts kicked on the recruiting trail?ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:23 pm Gonna be hard to beat Gonzaga for Zoom, especially considering his dad’s situation.
Honestly to me the difference is approach. Lloyd doesn't recruit over players, won't force other players he recruited out, and offers a limited amount of players. We can debate whether Lloyd's approach is the correct one versus a Miller approach, but that's what it boils down to. Tommy did get screwed over by Phil Knight money in one recruitment in 2023, which if that didn't occur you probably don't ask this question Beach.

I'm not so sure. Tacoma is far from Spokane. He's not considering Washington, but maybe that changes. I'd imagine the opportunity to join Bryant and Phillips in this class will be an advantage.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:23 pm Gonna be hard to beat Gonzaga for Zoom, especially considering his dad’s situation.

So Carter Bryant is down to Arizona and Louisville.
Hmm, wonder how much Louisville wants to spend??

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

The win total is inverse to the NIL they will spend to turn it around. Expect this to be a loss.

Re: Lets Talk '24
They gonna need more than Carter Bryant to turn that around.
I mean that's a start but, they might need 3 of him.
I never expect a loss.
I'm disappointed on a regular basis, but there are wins innumerable ahead.

Re: Lets Talk '24
This isn't the kind of recruitment where NIL will rule the day as far as I'm aware. The fact he announced his final 2 while still in Tucson probably means something.
Re: Lets Talk '24
I thought he would sign after the reveal and give Tommy some more headlines. Having Louisville mentioned in his final two is not a good sign IMHO.

Re: Lets Talk '24
No one is paying attention to recruits or recruiting on Selection Sunday. At most his announcement would have been a footnote. If he waits he can have more of the spotlight on his announcement.
Obviously I don’t know his motivations but that could be a reason.

Anytime a recruit leaves Tucson without committing, no matter if we are at the top or not, I would say we are not where we want to be with this staff. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
