You're absolutely right. It's similar to landing a proven FA in the NBA versus getting a top 10 draft pick.Alieberman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 12:01 pm I feel like success in the transfer portal is now more important than getting a good recruiting class.

Can't remember where I read it but saw some stats about the number of upperclassmen on Sweet 16 teams compared to teams with one and done athletes that backs up what you wrote.

Based on the numbers alone, that's probably the way college basketball should look!!
Based upon those who were first year transfers, that's probably not the way college basketball should look.
After all, from a fan (or even a program) perspective, what's the difference between a one-and-done vs a first year transfer??? They're nothing more than "hired guns", and are gone before they really become a part of the culture!!

Crazy how the transfer portal has become more significant than the traditional HS recruiting cycle.

This is fricking worse than NBA free agency.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

It’s annual free agency with no repercussions. Imaging if the pro sports had this instead of multi year contracts.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think Hunter D is a game-changer. Would I like him on my team? Sure. Does he get Kansas significantly closer to a national title? Don't think so.
Guards win titles, not big men. There have been a few exceptions, but for the most part, the team with the best guards wins.

Micro Mick isn't a guy they're lining up to play for. I'll give him five more seasons at that job, tops. He can thank Juzang for buying him some time with that FF run.
Also, the portal has changed the sport in a much more dramatic way than I anticipated.

This is not what NIL was supposed to be. Offer up business opportunities is great. Revenue from jersey sales and other image related objects is wonderful. Straight cash for play might ruin the college game

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
Between the NIL and the transfer portal, it is really changing the game not for the better.
Just saw where Sean Elliott finally got his degree from the UA. Although he did stay all 4 years, he wasn't really all that studious.

Guys that kept their powder dry may have the pick of the litter coming up. The NCAA’s deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft is May 31.

Classic sour grapes on your part. Also, my point was that guards are more valuable than big men. This may explain why Michigan hasn't done shit the last few years, with HD in a starring role.
