Weird play. So I assume it was 4th down and they went for it but threw a lateral to the back who did the onside punt for a recovered first down? Never seen that one

The ball is the “line of scrimmage” in rugby. One only has to be behind the punter to be onsides and play it live. The punter can sprint up and put people onsides, too.

Interesting play.

I am guessing after the punt, if the guy catching the punt let's it drop, the ball is live and the kicking team could recover.

I used to follow the Saskatchewan Roughriders when former UofA player Jeff Fairholm played for them. I don't recall seeing an onside punt.

Caught the winning touchdown in Boulder against CU if I remember correctly. 1987 ish?
