2023-2024 Arizona Basketball

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
Interesting AP poll this week. Only Pac-12 team in the top 25 is Arizona. Former WAC opponents BYU and Colorado State are in.

Had a brief pause there while the NCAA, ESPN, and every shitstain talking head in the world bent us over a barrel, but we are fucking BACK…
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
I have watched the Badgers play and quite frankly they have a great offense. Lots of movement and screens. They have some action that is close to the baseline that has opened up shooters that would normally look like they were trapped. Not sure what they are doing. They got a decent big that moves well. Will be a challenge like the rest of our out of conference.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:51 am Back to where we belong.
Knowing CTL he will use it as a motivator - "means nothing to be #1 in Dec.". I want to skin some Badger ass next Saturday for obvious reasons.

As it should be.

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
As has so often been the case in the Pac, we’re a top heavy league.
Pac teams will have more chances in December to register meaningful non-conference wins, but the opportunities are running out. Would’ve been nice if USC had knocked off Gonzaga.
Our next 4 are HUGE. I’ll be thrilled if we win 3.

Never seen that before. May never again. Crazy stat. As McLean pointed out, you’d think the ball would bounce funny and they’d get one by accident.

They were going to have one but the buzzer went off to end the game.
Pac announcers were following that stat during garbage time.

So Wisky beats Michigan St by 13. Is anyone here at all concerned about our early season wins looking worse by the day?

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
Not unless they all have .500 seasons or worse, which won’t happen obviously. And even then, you can only play the teams on your schedule. Can’t do anything about the conference being shitty or your marquee non-conference matchups being duds.g32knights wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 5:54 am So Wisky beats Michigan St by 13. According to Team Rankings our strength of schedule is 7th. Long way to fall from there before it starts affecting our seed.

No. Especially when you play the teams that beat them. Hate to say it but WISKEY looks very good when I have watched them.

All this confirms is that our schedule continues to increase in difficulty and that the defense of our #1 ranking will be authenticated by it. It's a mini March win-or-lose #1 tourney. Good job Tommy. Step up Cats. It's clobberin' time!

Nobody on the team should be tired or burnt out or complacent or ill-prepared or without motivation. Krivas, Bradley and Lewis will get tough tastes of future requirements as players who spell our starters in important tourney games. It's the perfect time for this stretch. Ima check myself into the loony bin a dozen times in the next 4 games, but barring injury our team will be just fine.

Torvik has us at 4.

Wiscy 12, Duke 20, MSU 29. Can't sort out preseason bias.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

UCLA has a better chance winning the Big 10 then most of the teams in that weak division.

We really should have all the #1 votes in the new poll. Kansas had 1 vote and Houston had 3 in the most recent rankings. Kansas has 1 loss and Houston hasn't played against a ranked team.

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
Doubt it. Now that Cronin has had to build a roster of his own, we see how it's going for them.
For the current season:
B1G top tier: Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin
second tier: Michigan State, OSU, Northwestern
third tier: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan
If any B1G not in the above group makes the NCAA tournament this year, it would be a tad surprising.
Not sure where their new additions next season will slot into these tiers, but I wouldn't put any of the new teams in the top level.

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
So much optimism surrounds the basketball program at present but should we be at least cautiously optimistic? For what most consider our 3 biggest opponents so far we must accept that we should have won all three of those games as those teams haven't been as good as prognosticated by the so called experts. Could those teams improve throughout the course of the season? Certainly and they probably will, but at present none of the three wins against Duke, MSU and Wisconsin would I consider high quality wins. Good wins but early season ones against teams that routinely get better as the season progresses and clearly haven't reached their potential yet.
Duke (6-3)
Current RPI 101
SOS 133
Michigan State (3-4)
Current RPI 175
SOS 55
Wisconsin (5-3)
Current RPI 28 (projected to be 48 by years end)
SOS 17 (projected to be 39 by years end)
Clearly our schedule seems much tougher than it's actually been. That's just the reality of it IMHO. Purdue will be our first true measure of where we are at with their RPI and SOS both being superb. I don't want to discredit or minimize the accomplishments of this years team but I think it's important to be realistic about how good we actually are vs. how good we are perceived to be just because we defeated a very beatable at present Duke team and two mediocre Big Ten teams.

CO needs to drink heavily and drive angrily around a closed racetrack. The only outcome that will scratch his itch is to smash into an overflowing porta-potty and fly upside down into a waste treatment settling pond. That would rate a unanimous #1 ranking for a high degree of difficulty game.

Well, the guy that denied us a sweep of the votes went to Indiana and now covers them (and Purdue.) Maybe he didn't like what we did to his Hoosiers last season. Or maybe he assumes Purdue will win with the virtual home court in Indianapolis and he can be the prescient one. Whatever. Meanwhile, as imposing as he is, and I'm sure it's been said before, whenever I see Zach Edey, I see Lurch.

Regarding Being Numero Uno
It's great recognition, and I love it. But, it's not like we're going undefeated this year. We want to stack up absolutely every last win that we can. No more patsies left, so we've got Purdue, Alabama, and FAU on neutral courts before starting Pac-12 play. Hard to say when we might have a bad shooting game with average effort from fatigue while we run up against a hot-shooting team along with bad refs all at once, but it obviously happens. Hate to see it while #1 in a frickin' lame Pac-12 road game while dweeby fans rush their floor and slobber on the camera lens. But it's also hard to "pick your poison" anywhere else. Lute always used to say it was kind of good to not have the #1 target on your back, as long as you're ranked in the Top 10 and you get lots of recognition through the season. In any event, the next two weeks should be pretty interesting.
Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
We want to beat Purdue, FAU and Alabama because the media will give us 0 credit for winning anything in conference this year
