That sucks. F the big C. My niece is battling stage 4 breast cancer and I lost my Mom at 17 to this dreaded disease. It seems to touch us all in some way

2 years is great! Very happy for you and your family.

But "cancer is nothing to be afraid of" or whatever that book is called is a crock of shit.

My son and daughter, both in their 30's, lost classmates within the last month 2 days apart. One was a twin too.

Thanks for the encouragement. "Luckily" mine is a pretty high survival rate. Stage 1 is 99% through 5 years. Mine was caught so early it was barely stage 1, but waiting for the results from the doctors is always nerve-wracking. Maybe one day UCLA football will be good. For now, I'll settle for the Dodgers being the evil empire.

So after a year of fighting with hospitals and doctors to get tests and waiting for appointments for months my wife was finally diagnosed with having a pleomorphic adenoma behind her ear. It's a usually benign tumor thankfully but it needs to be surgically removed because it can eventually turn into a basically 0% survival rate cancer. So thankfully we know she doesn't currently have cancer and isn't in immediate danger but she'll still have to have this pretty invasive surgery. Decent chance of facial numbness and paralysis afterwards since the tumor is right where a lot of facial nerves are. So now we have to wait almost 3 months for surgery since it takes forever to get anything done with doctors around here.

Also SD86's and I's dad currently has prostate cancer and is going to start radiation soon. He has a good prognosis but it's still a lot of stuff to deal with these days.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

i'll just go with fuck asu.

I looked up pleomorphic adenoma, it sounds like she has some good odds going for her. Hope she tolerates the surgery well. Let us know how it turns out.

My wife had her partial parotidectomy today to remove her tumor and part of her parotid gland. She's staying overnight at the hospital for observation but thankfully is ok. The tumor and subsequent biopsies of adjacent lymph nodes came back normal and benign. It will be a bit of a recovery since she has to have a facial drain and will have a gnarly scar behind her ear and along her jaw. Also has some facial numbness that should hopefully go away in a few days or a couple weeks. Not a fun process by any means but I'm just thankful this doesn't actually belong in this thread since it isn't actually cancer.

As hard as it is on your wife, rest assured we ourselves who have been through this know how hard it is on the spouse. In your devotion to your wife remember your own transitive burden of love. It's real and it takes a toll. Embrace your blessings and don't deny your torments. I wish you both peace.

Nothing but the best for Ann, I bought their very first album when it came out and wore it out.

Just strange that Ann and Nancy are touring since they really hate each other. Or at least they used to. Didn't speak for years, and when they did resume their tour they traveled separately.

But every band that hates each other does end up back together, outside of the Beatles.

Had my yearly endoscopy and a spot is back at the same location it originally was. Most likely the tumor is back, currently waiting on the biopsy, and if so, I'll need stomach surgery. It's pretty heavy to deal with, the cancer diagnosis, even though the prognosis long term is still excellent.

Sorry to hear that Bug. Nothing but best wishes for you.

My dad (91 next month) is having surgery a week from Wednesday in Tucson for bladder cancer. They are going to try and scrape it out through the urethra, but think it's about 1.5" by 0.75", then radiation and chemotherapy.

My mom died in 2010 due to ovarian cancer. They could have caught it in time but just kept telling her that it was a UTI, here's some antibiotics.

Fuck cancer. Who said cancer is nothing to fear?

TBD. Different doctor doing the surgery and wants to take a look via her own endoscopy for making the call. It's going to be pretty small and just an overnight visit likely. But the mental idea of cancer is just...heavy. even if this is pretty mild procedure on a mostly non-fatal type of cancer.

It's nothing to make light of, but a durable laparoscopic procedure with a lot of good historical outcomes is on your side. Take heart. All the odds are with you.
