I think my biggest grievance with Bill is his tendency to launch into long stories that have nothing to do with the game or the teams (or even basketball) when the game is tight and the action deserves its own space. It’s like watching with my father-in-law when I usually want to say “hey old man, can you give it a rest? I’m trying to watch the game.”
As a big fan of Big Bill, I have to agree...

... OTOH, Bill is a reliable indicator of just how boring much of basketball can be, especially blowouts. And, one has to admit that the second half last night was boring AF.
I actually enjoyed every minute of the second half especially watching Pauley (where I played pick up games as a kid) turn into McKale NW.

UofA! UofA! UofA!
There was a lot going on to for 'Cat fans to enjoy - but not a competitive basketball game

Dave, you ever been to Westwood?

RJ with the digs towards Duke was just classic.

I don't recall a funnier UA player. He's a natural.

RJ stole my thunder last night - I was literally typing a post in the game thread...

RJ: "Kentucky is gonna beat Tennessee on Saturday! It is written..."

Another (which I said earlier in the week):

RJ: "Arizona is gonna win out!"

RJ ascended beyond Wildcat deity status last night. He's now alone in a pantheon yet to be filled with living gods of equal stature.

Rewatched the game. RJ is supreme at sounding self-effacing while he humerously slides a shiv into Pasch's eye, causing Pasch to begin a round of sympathetic support only to get half way into it as he notices his own blood.

The best was at the end of the sequences where RJ went over the top with Wildcat praise and Pasch pushed back in the tiniest way possible, RJ asking in a very sincere and almost hurt tone… “Why do you have to bring up all this negative stuff about Arizona?”

Walton has also worked several Pac-12 Network games this season but hasn’t worked one since the Feb. 10 Washington State-Oregon broadcast.

Here's a big shocker. For lead-in conference tournament stories, Wilner (world renowned expert on media contracts and economics with his journalism degree) picks us to lose right out of the box in Vegas, and his conjoined twin Hansen bemoans the loss of some obscure HOF ceremony that I don't even recall hearing about at the tournament and also bitches about future Big XII tournaments that he's never been to. Well, I'm glad we got the burning questions about their attitudes cleared up. Now maybe an IP search to see which board name they use while stealing story ideas.

No Pasch so that's good. He always works better with everyone else.

Also hope he gets some boring blowout pre-season games.

I wish him good health and long life and permanent remission due an effective therapy that requires his jaw to be irreversibly wired shut. Then he can do any Arizona game that'll have him. He can sit there with a chalk board behind him like Woody Paige on Around the Horn.

The ESPN+ announcers for our first Big XII conference TCU game: Woof. PbP guy Richard Cross is a Mississippi guy, and analyst Barrett Brooks is a former Kansas St and Eagles O-lineman. But, it sure sounded like a TCU broadcast. Motormouth Brooks was just non-stop, like Eddie Murphy in the Shrek cartoons. I had to turn the sound way down low, but even so, I got the: "THAT silenced these fans!" ...and... "HOW can you call a technical foul there?" (Well, if he called a ref a M-Fer under his breath, that would probably do it.) Ah, well. The shape of things to come for non-national broadcasts, I guess. Presumably still better than the old ASU fanny-kissers on Fox Sports Arizona.

Okay, I turned it on late and immediately had to turn the sound way down, which caused me enough interest in bad announcing to wonder who the hell it was. When I looked up who was supposed to do the game "TCU at Arizona 2024", the two I mentioned earlier came up. So much for "if it's on the internet, it must be true." Maybe they did the football game in Fort Worth. In any event, Corey was terrible. Maybe try decaf.

Corey was really bad. Cracked me up that the play-by-play guy said at one point “You’re really close to this program…” and then like 30 seconds later Corey butchered the pronunciation of Veesaar’s name.

It's a good idea, and I used to do that for Arizona games. (Hell, I used to put on Jack Buck and Hank Stram on MNF so I didn't have to listen to Howard Cosell.) But that was non-delayed direct broadcasts. I already have to monkey around a little bit for ESPN+ games, and I think it depends on your location for the timing of various audio and video streamings. The last time I tried, it was like 30 seconds off, so kind of distracting. Generally, I try to turn the audio down so I can hear when the crowd really roars and the game announcer bellows, but the (usually mediocre) announcers are just kind of a background buzz. But occasionally, a Corey has the knack to be piercing through that.

It was always interesting listening to the radio while streaming the game that the shot was good while the ball was still in the air.

I thought the same - Corey seemed to really struggle the past 2 broadcasts. Was amazed that someone close to the program could continue to butcher players names.

Thought I was just hearing things and then kept happening in the last few games.

Hopefully he pulls it together.
