Have we ever had a transfer play just one season for us and win Pac POY in that season?

I think the only other transfer to win POY at any point was Chris Mills. But it wasn’t just one season.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:29 am Have we ever had a transfer play just one season for us and win Pac POY in that season?

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
I don’t think it’s likely that we end up with more than 1 player having an off night from here on. This past USC game was a one-off where we had 3-4 players having a bad to very bad night.
If this team comes out motivated and puts in effort, we have a chance to win every single game we have left.
We won’t be questioning anyone’s skill if we lose early…we will be questioning effort and mindset.
So let’s Bear the fuck Down!!!!!

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
I disagree about "effort", and don't know what you mean by "mindset". Maybe the latter is what I'd call "focus"IndianaZonaFan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:13 pm I don’t think it’s likely that we end up with more than 1 player having an off night from here on. I do not believe that the loss to USC was entirely about players having an offnite, lack of effort, or poor motivation.
USC was excellent on defense, forced us into a perimeter game, and we broke down because we relied too much on dribble penetration.
- (Remember Mick Cronin's post-game whining Thursday: "They beat us off the dribble. They didn't really "run" anything because we couldn't stop them.")
- USC made 15 steals and scored 14 points off U of A turnovers!!!
- They forced us out of dribble penetration style, and we basically responded with turnovers and unassisted three-attempts.
- BUT!! We did do a great job of getting offensive rebounds (9 in the first half; 14 total! That resulted in ZERO points).
These shortcomings were NOT due to tired players. We're as well-conditioned as anyone.
These shortcomings were NOT due to lazy players. We played hard. They were "motivated".
These shortcomings were NOT due solely to poor individual play.
- Creating your own three-point shots is much lower percentage than catch-and-shoot three-pointers;
- Dribbling into a well organized and athletic defense is high risk;
- Over-dribbling must be replaced with good crisp passing, movement off-the-ball, and converting in the lane.
(Maybe your term "mindset" and my "unfocused are same/similar??)
Unfortunately, often for entire halves, sometimes whole games, the 'Cats become LESS THAN THE SUM OF THEIR PARTS. And I believe that that is primarily a matter of "focus".

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
Think about it. In a way, WSU screwed us a third time by losing to UW and making the Cats celebrate early.
WSU wins that one at home and there's no way UA loses at USC and are likely the #1 Seed out West.
Bring on the PAC Revenge Tour in Vegas!

Feels like we got punished a bit for having too many good players. They couldn't give all of them what they deserved.
On the plus side it feels like a great time to pick Bradley for RAP.

The other day on a B1G game they said that the conference was looking at western sites for their tournament potentially. One can only think they look hard at Vegas, who is hungry to fill the PAC void

I don’t get why you are so bent over this now. Not like we haven’t known the end was near since last summer.
Seems instead of being upset at the Big 12 you could target your anger toward Scott Or Kliavkoff. Or maybe the LA schools who really screwed us all.
Just seems like an odd time to be frustrated. We can’t stop the change and it’s still UofA sports, just different road games

I wonder if we had someone on the committee that helped decide this? My only objection is you are basically playing a home game for Kansas and KSU. Also thru 31 is a funking long time and don't know what they are giving in return. Also I think hotel rooms are going to be hard and expensive to get.

I'm glad you support the move to the Big 12. Now we won't have to play at truck stops anymore like Berkley, Palo Alto, Seattle, LA. i'm sure just like me you are really looking forward to visiting destination cities like Lubbock and Ames.

Probably higher than you think. Because cool places to visit often become places to live. And there are more UA Alumni with deep pockets in L. A., Seattle, and San Francisco than all of BIG12 country combined.Chicat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 7:05 amI wonder where “Cities Arizona fans desire to visit” landed on the list of pros/cons the administrations put together to decide whether to bolt for the Big12 or stick in the PAC-8?g32knights wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:51 amI'm glad you support the move to the Big 12. But we had no choice. It was either BIG12 or join WSU and OSU. We made the only half decent decision we could. Just don't expect all of us to be happy about it.

I am definitely happy about it. Better competition outweighs where you're playing. We were in a conference with schools that could give two shits about sports.AzCatFan2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 7:13 amProbably higher than you think. Better comp and more eyeballs east of the Mississippi on cats games.
Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
Better competition in men's basketball? Yes. Football and all other sports? Debatable. We're also going to be competing with schools making nearly 2X from TV deals than us and other BIG12 schools. How long can we compete against that? TBD.
More eyeballs? Also debatable. Arizona Basketball is already a national brand, but Arizona football is not. We'll see if our TV ratings jump at all. I'm not overly optimistic.
What we lose? Opportunities for the AD and President to connect with alumni in CA and WA. 17% of UA students are from California (2nd) and in 4th is WA with 2.2%. And again, more potential big money donors live in these states than all BIG12 states combined other than Arizona. If we are to compete with about 50% of the TV budget, it's going to make it even more difficult if we potentially lose out because there are no football/basketball games in CA and WA to meet with potential donors. I would expect Reed-Francois will be scheduling non-conference games in these locations in the near future to help.

^ Should have put Krivas on there too.
Announcer: In fact, UA football has rarely been competitive in the WAC and PAC as evidenced by never winning a sole football championship in either conference.

Alumni in Washington? lol ok. You're seriously worried about that? Anybody ever notice a large Arizona contingent when we played in Seattle or Pullman? Anybody? Bueller? I'd never expect us to schedule a Washington school on purpose ever again outside of UW football maybe twice every other decade and Gonzaga if Tommy ever leaves.AzCatFan2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:18 am Better competition in men's basketball? Arizona can and will play road games in California and truthfully that's the only state that matters in your entire whinefest of a post. Also in regards to competing in basketball with programs that will make way more money than us, I'll just point to the two teams in last year's national championship game and tell you to shut up.
As far as the more eyeballs thing goes, well shit we're not going to have to worry about the Pac 12 Network ever again, so that's an automatic boost. Coupled that with more games taking place in Central time zone and it'll help us quite a bit.

Re: 2023-2024 Arizona Basketball
The percentage of students comes from College Factual (https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges ... e_vignette). They use IPEDS information, which is a standard database for college students by school.
Seattle is home to several Fortune 500 Companies including Amazon, Boeing, Costco, Microsoft, Starbucks and more. Having lived in the area for the years and attended a few alumni events, I can tell you the AD and President would prefer to travel to Seattle to meet these alumni, than Lubbock or Morgantown, which are cool college towns, but not the home of many, if any potential big time UA donors.
Now I'm not arguing we made a mistake. With no B1G or SEC offer, and the PAC crumbling, the BIG12 was our best option. But losing access to CA and WA, and making about 50% of what schools in the B1G and SEC are making? That's far from optimal.

I would consider where alumni live to be the more pertinent stat when it comes to where we play. I went to UA from NY but live in the Chicago area now.

Couldn't give two shits less about Washington as I said before, especially since no major U of A grad working for any of those companies is raking in the dough, but I agree with the rest being far from optimal. As you said though we didn't have a choice. There will be more movement before you know it and our job is to be heads and shoulders above the dipshits in Tempe.AzCatFan2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 9:57 am The percentage of students comes from College Factual (https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges ... e_vignette). I know certain people think KC is a cowtown, and in some ways it is, but they are about the population of Tucson and yet have so much more going on.
