Re: 2023-2024 Season Thread
We are now among the last 4 in. That would be quite a feat with our record, regardless of schedule.

Cats beat Auburn and will play Syracuse on Saturday at 12:30PM on ESPN2. Pueyo was so clutch on both ends of the court.

Women's basketball continues to get screwed over. This would be a national story for a men's team.

First Four's really aren't a big deal...
... except for the teams competing.
And, I'm more excited to watch the U of A women right now than the men!

I see Adia deleted the tweet. lol
She seriously needs to stop late night tweeting, though this time I feel she has a valid complaint.

She said their hotel is an hour away and hosts should be required to have enough accommodation within 10 miles of the arena.

There is nothing in Storrs so Adia should be thankful she doesn’t have to stay in that shithole town.

Re: 2023-2024 Season Thread
They made a noble effort, considering how short-handed they are. They definitely coulda, and maybe shoulda, beaten Syracuse. But, this year, with a pretty low ceiling anyway, I think it may have been better to go out in an admittedly frustrating, but very competitive, game than deal with the likely outcome against UConn. They should hold their heads high for persevering in a particularly tough season.
Re: 2023-2024 Season Thread
How many players are we even going to have next year? We're not getting a ton of recruits so it feels like our depth will still be an issue again.

Angel Reese or Caitlin Clark? Players dish on biggest trash-talkers in women’s basketball
Our first in a series of player polls this week asks: Who’s the biggest trash-talker you’ve faced? Of course, Reese and Clark make this list but so do many others.
The Athletic asked 95 NCAA Tournament players, including 85 who competed in the Sweet 16, a series of questions this week about their sport. We granted anonymity so the players would speak candidly without fear of repercussions, and some players abstained from certain questions. We’ll run our polls — most overrated, coach they’d want to play for, player they’d ask to join their team and more — all week as we head into the Final Four.
Who’s the biggest trash-talker you’ve faced?
Angel Reese, LSU - 20 votes
Cameron Brink, Stanford - 12 votes
Caitlin Clark, Iowa - 8 votes
Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame - 4 votes
Jada Williams, Arizona - 4 votes
Entire roster, Arizona - 3 votes

Re: 2023-2024 Season Thread
I've enjoyed Arizona women's hoops since Joan Bonvicini arrived in the early 90s. Under Adia Barnes, with the WNIT title in a sold-out McKale, and one Aari McDonald buzzer beater from an NCAA title, it's obviously gone to a new level. Based on attendance and media coverage, it's our number three sport, ahead of baseball and softball. So, I like and respect the sport.
Living in SoCal, it's been interesting following the media here. With the UCLA and USC men's teams out of the playoffs, and with both women's teams pretty good this year, they suddenly decided that the "real" story in basketball nation-wide is suddenly the women's game. Yeah, there are some subplots this year with Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, but that's been there before with Sabrina Ionescu and many others. And being the LA media, you either win the Oscar, or you're a total loser. UCLA and USC in the FInal Four! So Ben Bolch predictably came up with his "cookies and milk" and "America's darlings" description of UCLA (gag me) and swept any controversy over Bruin behavior after their LSU loss under the carpet, based on whatever UCLA's coach claimed and a complete disinterest in pursuing the story. Then it was up to JuJu and USC. Oops.
I get no glee out of it, and they did better than us, but I admit their face plant after the big-build up was kind of satisfying. It's a bit like two years ago when (according to them) USC and UCLA were both supposed to compete for the national championship in football. So this past season, USC plays Louisville in the Padres stadium, and Chip Kelly becomes the OC at Ohio State. Live and (never) learn.
