I saw Roman sitting with John in the section where all the high school kids were. We were wondering who it was.

If reports are accurate and Tacario Davis has withdrawn from the portal...that's news. And I'm sure everybody will very vocally celebrate. Ditto for any good news from the Fina family.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
If true, you have to give Brennan & Company their flowers for keeping most of our talented core intact. I know they had help from some of the other players but we don’t keep the likes of TD without a ton of effort on the part of the coaches and admin.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
To keep Tacario is big time. Brennan needed that badly.

Not just the coaching staff, but I imagine the players had a lot of influence on him.

Ohana, bro.
Guys like Feef and TMac are holding the team together.
They and this team are the best recruiters any school could have.
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
I wonder if Brennan will give this guy a look.

So Jedd was only able to get 3 guys to follow him?
That sounds pretty amazing

I bet TD has some epic battles going up against Tmac in practices. They might be the best competition against each other than they see in real games.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
I try to keep up with roster issues by maintaining a depth chart, and obviously these days it's a more active hobby than it used to be.
By my judgment, we've lost six portal transfers off our two-deep: Kevin Green, Jonah Coleman, and Joe Borjon on offense, and Bill Norton, D.J. Warnell, and Ephresians Prysock on defense. Note that Green and Warnell haven't landed anywhere else yet, but I still consider them gone. Six positions on my two-deep are now occupied by incoming portal transfers: Quali Conley, Michael Wooten, and Alexander Doost on offense, and Chubba Mae, Tre Smith, and Jack Luttrell on defense. You can argue all day long that the outgoing players were better, but that's not known, despite any attempts to compare pedigrees. Regardless, it's six-out and six-in where it matters most ... (you do the math.) It is disingenuous to bemoan young players recruited by a previous coach who choose to follow him and who were expected to take a while to climb the depth chart, while also denigrating the replacement of them with young-ish transfers who are also expected to take a while to climb the depth chart, and therefore "only provide depth."
Brennan & Co. have done remarkably well.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
Nice breakdown! Certainly not the bloodbath many feared. Well done all the way around keeping so many quality kids in the Wildcat Family.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
We also lost a couple of really good running backs to the NFL. I would like to see us replace one at least. Preferably a combination of the two. A big power runner with speed and some twtich that can catch passes. I know its asking a lot but fingers are crossed and I'm keeping the faith.
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
I think my biggest concerns are at RB since we have such little depth now and on the DL to replace Bill Norton. Seems like we're in pretty good shape everywhere else.

Remember we got Speedy Luke. He’s looking jacked now.tgrumpy2 wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 1:16 pm We also lost a couple of really good running backs to the NFL. This staff is going to exploit his speed. I got a feeling he’s gonna be another Fishy poor talent evaluation. Like Feef was.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
Agree that RB depth is still an issue from graduated players, and also agree with Lev that Luke is a great change-up, but he's not built like an every down back. I was earlier responding to the attempted narrative that we're bleeding out via the transfer portal and in dire trouble from it. It looked like we had RB solved with UNM's Croskey-Merritt, but he's from Alabama, and Lane Kiffin managed to flip him to Ole Miss. Not sure how many difference-makers are possible at this point, but it's still an area of need, so no doubt they'll do what they can.

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
RB for a starter or biggest role RB (huge need and we probably need 2). Speedy is great but probably best as a change of pace guy.
OL for depth or a potential starter.
LB for depth.
DL for depth and co starters to keep the energy up while coming over the walls.
Are our backup QBs capable?

Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
DJ Warnell is gone
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
I like DJ a lot but he just wasn’t great in coverage. He could really play the run game though and I think he will see plenty of snaps for the Hoosiers

The backup QB Dorman is an unknown, but he was highly rated out of high school. Do we have anyone other than walk-ons behind him?Carcassdragger wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 3:44 pm RB for a starter or biggest role RB (huge need and we probably need 2). Didn't we just get a guy from San Jose St. for 3rd string?gouacats wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 5:14 pmThe backup QB Dorman is an unknown, but he was highly rated out of high school. How many guys went with Nancen?
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
6-3 370 lb Defensive tackle in the transfer portal from BYU. If we could shave 40lbs off him.........maybe a rotation player for depth?

1 went with, then Norton later.

What's worse, he was shockingly bad against a pass rush. Overall, Fina had a PFF offensive grade of 37.3 over 790 snaps, which was also the worst offensive grade on the Bruins.
Fina's run blocking wasn't good, but it was a run-of-the-mill 53.1 grade. But against a pass rush? Fina had a grade of just 16.2 for the season. That was worse (quite a bit worse actually) than several running backs for UCLA last year. Worse than several wide receivers.
In total, Fina was credited with allowing 5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits and 26 quarterback hurries.

Grad transfers gave an extra day to utilize the portal.
Re: 2024 Transfer Portal
Fina should be a guard, not a tackle but not sure is is better than Leif and he is not better than Moe for sure. Fifth year probably wants to play and I don’t see where he starts on our line
