Qualitative things like "experiencing majors" is not why LIV started. I'm with Tiger but that model is about guaranteed money like all other sports.

But as Tiger implied, professional golf is different. It’s about the grind and the end results as a reward. LIV is all about immediate rewards.

I hope the majors tell those guys they have the opportunity to go to qualifying and play their way into the US Open and the Open. Of course the Masters is by invite and the PGA is for its members so those guys should be out.

I don’t like LIV and I really don’t like the Saudi backing. It’s blood money and my
Only action is I won’t watch any of their events

$25-200M and there's a good chance you never play in a major? I dont think the younger guys truly care enough to not risk losing that experience. They can afford to rent out an entire major course for the weekend and play it shirtless with their buddies. I get the blood money side of it but that's their decision to research and accept/decline.

Also Tiger's already a billionaire...

After 1 completed LIV tournament all of the sudden the PGA Tour finds another $54M for larger purses next season and a $20M tourney for the top guys. Where has all that money been going?

A great story in this weeks PGA tournament. Jeff Overton is making his debut after 5 torturous years of debilitating back issues.

After the 2017 Honda Classic he had back surgery and he developed a spinal infection. Was bed ridden for a long time and had to learn how to walk again much less swing a club.

He was a Ryder cup guy in 2010 so he has game. He got a sponsor exemption for this and so hope he plays very well.

Tiger gets a ton of attention for his comeback and deservedly so but this guys story is remarkable as well if not more

Rory must be beyond pissed. The PGA trotted him out there weekly to call LIV the blood money tour while Bryson and Phil got millions and now he’s just supposed to roll over and accept the Saudis being his boss.

This PGA tour players should be pissed. They stayed loyal and got nothing for that loyalty.

The Saudi’s now own all of the worlds biggest golf tours. This is not good IMO.

Am I without others to reckon a concept of fiat patriotism? At some amount domestic identity is replaced by nominal currency value. I won't doom this notion to the lower boards: it appears to be just another sports thing in this moment, surely.

So, we're expecting whores to justify the source of income from their johns??

Whores = LIV golfers; johns - Saudi sovereign wealth fund

or, post merger:

Whores = golf fans; johns - pro golf advertisers

Nothing's gonna change

Nick Dunlap, a sophomore at Alabama just won the American Express at 29 u see beating San Burns and Justin Thomas.

He is the first amateur since Phil Michelson won the Tucson open in the early 90’s. Can’t win the first place money but I bet the NIL Money will be rolling in. Just amazing

I doubt it would amount to much of a loss of support. Seems like the very thing your typical golf enthusiast would enjoy.

Golf’s well-documented pandemic boom has seen an upswing in all areas of the game in the United States. In the seven years following the Great Recession in the late 2000s, the American golf population shrank by 2.3 million. In the ensuing seven years, it grew by 2.8 million.

According to the National Golf Foundation, an estimated 26.6 million Americans played on a golf course in 2023, a net increase of about one million compared to 2022. That is the single biggest jump in on-course participants since 2001 when Tiger Woods held victories in all four majors at once.

Rounds per course have reached their highest levels since the early 1990s, up about 15 percent compared to 2019. Golf course closures are at their lowest point since prior to the Great Recession and new course openings just hit their best mark in 13 years.

Overall, golf equipment sales are up about 40 percent compared to pre-pandemic. And golf apparel sales established an all-time high in 2023, according to Golf Datatech. Apparel is up about 55 percent compared to 2019.
