Just like the WC. Who had it first? Thought I read the UA beat K-State by a couple of years, but don't recall seeing definitive proof.

Big XII Media Days
Caught a bit of roundtable discussion and then the archive of Brennan's Q&A after the fact on ESPN+. I don't think anybody bemoaning the demise of P12N can complain about the production quality; that's at least equal to what we've been accustomed to. And Brennan's head coaching experience is obvious in his very comfortable and smooth delivery. No particular surprises from the Q&A. He's excited about playing games in Texas, Florida, and now two in Utah in terms of expanding recruiting to those areas (where family and friends can see you play) in addition to California. We'll continue with a heavy Polynesian cultural influence with the players we recruit. He talked about how the primary thing that kept Noah from following Fisch was his Arizona teammates and their camaraderie. He'll scout teams primarily on 2024 games played versus 2023 games, due to roster turnover from the portal. He mentioned keeping things mostly the same in terms of schematics and terminology for the players' comfort zones. The players will be consulted and have input on various aspects of the team. He said, as a former receiver, the thing he most notices about T-Mac is that he has fun throughout a competition, like a Steph Curry, his great body control, and that he does an unusually good job coming down with 50-50 balls. He doesn't care about pre-season predictions, accolades, or slights and doesn't think the players do, either. The focus is on putting in the work through the summer and improving.
Re: 2024 Season Thread
Yea the Block A has been around a long time and it is cool and we should own it but that doesn't mean we can't throw something different out there every now and then. I think they look cool but I wouldn't want it every game. Has anyone asked the team what they think of it? Personally I think their opinion is more important than ours.

Who cares? They're gonna use them in 1 game, 2 games max. I like them and like grumpy said, if the players want to play in them they're good enough for me.

Maybe both teams will wear them during the K-State game. Kind of interesting.

Very impressive stats.
Probably not much chance for a NFL career with his height though. Good for Arizona, not good for his career.

Re: 2024 Season Thread
+1400 odds to win the BIG12 right now - That's crazy! It's probably a free for all in the top 5, but we only play 1 team projected to finish in the top 6 - Utah. All other conference opponents are predicted to finish below us. We do play KSt but it's a non-con game since it was scheduled before the conference transition. We're also currently favored in 10 of our games at the moment.

Re: 2024 Season Thread
Yea, can't imagine the ABOR going along with that. Huge payday for NAU from UA and ASU alternating seasons.
Besides, most teams schedule a FCS team. The old schedule mantra of a FCS team, a mid-major, and a P5 team for the OOC games has been pretty standard for some time.

Re: 2024 Season Thread
That scheduling would be idiotic. The 12 would become a one bid league for the playoffs. It would cannibalize itself.
To Merks point, one of the biggest threats to college football is the pay day gane getting eliminated. The networks don’t want to 56-7 game. They want the parity of the NFL

Re: 2024 Season Thread
Looks like the only constant really is change. Not sure what are the eventual TV-driven forward expectations for the SEC and Big Ten. If the model is to attempt to achieve something similar to this a number of years down the line, Yormark may be putting this out there as part of trolling for ACC teams to counter-punch that. I can see him visualizing a Power Three of "haves" with TV contracts, with others pretty well frozen out. At least until the lawsuits start flying. As for NAU, we've been playing them alternate years with a $500K guarantee, but ASU has only played them about 5 times during this millennium, and once since 2016. We've played them 13 times from 2000 to present. Don't know how much sway the ABOR's desires for NAU have on the Big XII, but it's a good microcosm of the impact of the consolidation to those on the outside looking in.

Bowls
Wilner quotes somebody named Nick Carparelli, executive director of Bowl Season, the organizing association for bowl games (neither of which I've ever heard of) as the authority who says we're still tethered to "Pac-12" bowl games for the next two seasons. So, beyond the CFP, it's:
Big XII
San Antonio
Orlando
Houston
Memphis
Phoenix
Shreveport
"Pac-12"
San Antonio
San Diego
Las Vegas
El Paso
Los Angeles
Shreveport
First off, I'm sure one of our goals is to make the 12-team CFP field. Barring that, beyond the overlap of two bowls, three of the remaining "Pac-12" bowls would be both attractive and closer than three of the Big XII bowls. Not sure if we'd face more competition for those from some of the Big Ten expats, and also not crazy about having WSU and OSU playing nobody, but demanding "rights" based on apples and oranges schedules to claim some imaginary victory over those who "wronged" them . Regardless of any stated or published supposed rules, the bowls have always operated with backroom exceptions and deals, and I'd bet this year will be even moreso. In any event, there are more options as constant change continues.

Unfortunately yeah. Saw some signs on Twitter after jedd left and I'm gonna guess his bad feelings about how everything turned out have been festering for awhile.
Feel bad for Raymond, hope everything works out well in the end for him no matter what ends up happening.

I have a friend who played for SC.
One of his teammates injured himself to get his dad to STFU about SC football. He was done.

Jared Small
Brennan's announcement at the start of fall camp that they've added LB Jared Small isn't necessarily just a shrug about an extra body. He was fourth in tackles on an 11-3 Tulane team last year.

Hopefully the Big12 gets the basketball tournament to Vegas. If the Big Ten can do it then the Big 12 not only can but absolutely needs to.
My issue was never anyone excited to move. Those are not stans. Wilbur is not a stan.
My issue was with extremely extremely realignment zealots. There are maybe 2 or 3 of them associated with UA

Re: 2024 Season Thread
With the new rules regarding paying athletes, I doubt the UA will ever field a wrestling team, and many schools that do may cut the program.
Cal Poly used to compete in the PAC due to not enough schools having wrestling program. Wonder where they will end up? I used to play racquetball with the wrestling coach, but he has passed on.

On Big XII Vegas Hoops Tourney
Things change, and anything's possible, but I've become pessimistic that the Big XII will ever move the hoops tourney to Vegas. 9 of the league schools are in semi-reasonable driving range of KC (the Texas and Kansas schools, OSU, ISU, and CU.) The other 7 are likely flying. With Vegas, 5 (now including BYU) can drive, and 11 fly. That could certainly be overcome, and the weather's better and it's more fun in Vegas. But the big thing is that Kansas is the big dog in Big XII hoops. Like it or not, we're the newcomer, and regardless of how we view ourselves compared to KU, we'll likely be expected to pay our dues. It's listed as a 55-minute drive from Allen Fieldhouse to the T-Mobile Center in KC, so that's like if we'd held the Pac-12 Tournament in Casa Grande. No doubt they like that very much, and I'm sure our historical advantage in Vegas is not lost on any of our new associates in the Big XII. Yormark's all about change for opportunity, but I'd think it would take some significant additional advantage in money or exposure for that to happen. It'd be nice, though.
