9 Gunner Maldonado

Maldonado is a 6-0, 198, Senior defensive back from Chandler, AZ. He has only missed 3 games and started 27 in his 3 years at Arizona (he spent his Freshman year at Northwestern). Last year he broke out as a team leader on defense and a fan favorite after being the whipping boy early in the year.

Last season Maldonado had a career high 81 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. His fumble return for a touchdown in the Alamo Bowl will live on as one of the great plays in Wildcat history. Maldonado was a team captain last year and will be one of our defensive leaders this season.







Arizona intercepted 9 passes last year averaging 9.8 yards per interception return.

I always thought his run support was better than his pass D, until he started picking off passes last season.

To be fair that all stemmed from the first third to half of the season where he wasn't playing well at all.

But he certainly proved them all wrong by the end!
