Carter, himself a Vietnam War veteran

Oh.

As a veteran myself, I would think the revenue from the tenants would help other veterans too.

Certainly support helping the homeless vets, this just seems really drastic

My guess is that he got tired of being stonewalled and decided to get the attention of all parties. He mentioned compromise and horse trading, so I'm sure that's the desired approach, and I'd bet there'll be some movement in that direction in the very near future. Meanwhile, USC just played an entire baseball season at a facility in OC while they re-do their baseball stadium, so UCLA also has that option short-term. No real place to put a field on their campus, unless they demolish some green spaces near their softball stadium, which probably isn't feasible. In any event, homeless vets should benefit either way, and this will either get smoothed over, or it'll get uglier for UCLA...so win/win.

Update On UCLA Baseball's Troubles

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

Wasn't aware of the free medical care, and UCLA Medical is excellent. So, in addition to that, their proposal of ceding some acreage and increasing the rent seems pretty decent to me, and the other parties can provide the necessary real estate, etc. I'm not terribly sympathetic to the needs of The Brentwood School. If the oil well is active, maybe the proceeds could be distributed directly to the veterans. I'm sure there'll be lots of billable hours as this drags on. Not sure what it means for UCLA's baseball season if a federal judge keeps locks on the gates.

So they get to play there this season. After that, it's up in the air.
