Very few schools do. Not a lot of guys walking around with $50B in their pockets.
But Arte Moreno and Woody Johnson probably have $10B. And it doesn’t take another forty to field a football team.
Like I said, we have rich alums. It will just take work. Like a concerted effort to show them why investing in UA Athletics would be a benefit to them.

The reality is that multiple AD's and UA presidents have been unable to pry any significant $$$$$ out of those alumni over a very long period of time.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:19 amVery few schools do. Not a lot of guys walking around with $50B in their pockets.

Perhaps you should apply for the UA AD job the next time there's a vacancy.

Oh by the way, since what is now the Fuel Wonder campaign was launched about seven years ago the University has raised over $2BILLION towards its $3B goal.
You were saying something about not having wealthy alums?

Re: The Big 12 Thread
There is a significant difference between the number of wealthy alums that will contribute to an academic focused fund raising campaign and the number that will contribute towards NIL. Talk about not having a "nuanced take"Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 4:16 pmI’m about as likely to do that as you are to have a nuanced take.dmjcat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:51 amThe reality is that multiple AD's and UA presidents have been unable to pry any significant $$$$$ out of those alumni over a very long period of time.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:19 amVery few schools do. Aww, you used that laughing emoji like you made a good point. Adorable…
Just as an FYI, some of that $2B actually went to athletics, including $6.5M from Jim Click to fund adaptive athletics, a $4.5M donation from Doug Allred to the football & basketball programs, and the $6M anonymous gift that created the 5980 Fund.
It also includes $18M from Umberto Lopez for a variety of academic things. Do you know him? Jedd Fisch looked his son in the eye and lied to straight to his face as he was funding our football team NIL. And it includes a $10M gift from the Stevens family (of Lowell-Stevens fame).
So it’s almost as if with you bleating the same “we are too poor!” mantra across multiple threads that you don’t actually know what you’re talking about.
We have wealthy alumni.
We have wealthy alumni that care about sports.
We have wealthy alumni that have contributed to athletics in the past.
It will just take work to get them to contribute in the future.

The UA athletic dept. has always had issues soliciting large sums of money from alumni, especially for football. As I already pointed out it took DECADES for the athletics department to obtain funding for a simple weight training facility. It is illogical to believe that the funding issue is suddenly going to go away when it hasn't for many, many years just because Chicat says it will.

Re: The Big 12 Thread
You guys talk about wealth donors but the U of A use to assigned a specific contact (attractive female) if you were even a very moderate donor for a wide variety of things. For example a bench outside one of the athletic sites cost $10K and it was said it would be well taken care of and athletes, students or fans could use it. That is what I bought many years ago. I have not given any donation of any kind for anything since Sean Miller was fired. This is before NIL and their collection for that.Chicat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 9:57 amDid you skateboard a lot as a child without a helmet?dmjcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 8:36 amAs usual, you overlook the obvious.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 9:32 pmAww, you used that laughing emoji like you made a good point. My point is you don't have to be a millionaire to start to make a difference. Greg Byrne provided tickets behind the U of A bench at the Galen center (U of A lost) and actually came by to hob nob with what I assume were major donors. If you like what they are doing send them $100 at the end of the year. You can designate where it goes. Like a great tennis team and locking up their coach.

Meanwhile I’m enjoying this ISU/TTech game. Our games against these teams are going to be great.

True, but I can’t imagine Bill Self is happy with what he saw this afternoon on the offensive end. No ball movement and a lot of bad shots.

Well if TTU could hit free throws, they would have ended it in regulation. They were good for the game but missed the front end of a 1 and 1 to ice the game. Big win indeed for ISU.

ISU/Kansas is a great game if you love turnovers. Each team has 10 and it's not quite halftime yet.

Is it just me or is this league a bit overrated? Two FF caliber teams in Houston and Iowa St.
Three sweet 16 level teams in us, Kansas and Texas Tech and then a bunch of teams fighting just to get in
West Virginia might fold if it doesn’t get the three injured players back soon. BYU and ASSU have been very inconsistent. Baylor and UCF look like they could sneak in but they have work to do. Everyone else is just fat for these teams to feast on.
The mantra as the best basketball conference doesn’t fit this year in my mind given what I have watched

Re: The Big 12 Thread
ESPN had a feature during game day. Said 13 SEC teams likely to make the tourney. Said one of the main drivers was NIL and it was reported each team has an average of 4-5 million. Also said this has caused an influx of high end coaches and no foreseeable end in sight. This is the new landscape with NIL.
Also had coach Pearl on he said you don't want 15 really good players. You want 6-7 good to great with experience backups that are older for the rest.
