Re: Coaching Carousel
Sean just does not seem like a Texas guy.
Re: Coaching Carousel
No, but I'm sure his check book could talk him into it.
Re: Coaching Carousel
X can never have the NIL Texas can have at the drop of a hat.

Virginia to hire Ryan Odom, who once engineered 16-seed upset of No. 1 Cavaliers in NCAA Tournament
Odom has been coaching nearby VCU and has ties to Charlottesville: His father, Dave, was an assistant there in the 1980s
Virginia has landed its next coach — and it only had to make a little more than an hour's drive to do it. VCU's Ryan Odom will be leaving Richmond, Virginia, and is headed to nearby Charlottesville to run the Cavaliers' men's basketball program, sources told CBS Sports.
Odom and 11th-seeded VCU lost Thursday in the first round of the tournament to No. 6 BYU, 80-71.
An official announcement from Virginia will be made Saturday, per sources. Odom has already signed paperwork and will be headed to the ACC. A press conference is scheduled for Monday.
Odom, who before his time at VCU famously coached 16-seed UMBC to a first-of-its-kind win over No. 1 overall seed Virginia in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, will ironically enough be Tony Bennett's successor after Bennett's surprise preseason retirement last October.
Bennett coached Virginia for 15 seasons and rebounded from the stunning first-round upset to Odom's UMBC team by winning the first national championship in program history a year later, in 2019.

I don’t like that move for him, but I hope we schedule a home-&-home with them.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Xavier fans not happy. Here is one post:
It’s still not official but what a POS. X gives you 2 chances in life and this is how you treat them? No excuses just pure douchebaggery and if true he can rot in hell. What a an awful human being, if this is true. Bring back Mack. No way he would fuck us over twice like Mr. Lexus did would he?

I like Miller and wish him success where ever he is... but Texas just seems like a bad fit
Re: Coaching Carousel
Miller knows the end of mid majors being competitive is over. NIL has changed the game and he is now in 1 of the 2 conferences with the most money and leverage going forward. No brainer in my mind if you're as competitive as Sean is

But good luck to him, and hopefully they can work out a home and home.
After all, UT has not beaten Arizona since 1971. Lute owned Barnes.

Love CSM and hope he succeeds wherever he coaches but agree UT is a strange fit.

The humidity in SA just about killed me, and I think it's worse in Austin. Places like Galveston and Houston were utterly unlivable.

I feel for Xavier fans. They got punched in the gut twice.
Not sure Texas is the best fit for him either, but I guess we'll see how that turns out.

Re: Coaching Carousel
I think Texas is a perfect fit. They will pay a ton for a winner, he will have an unlimited NIL, and also have a definite shot at a National championship.
Xavier was incredibly kind to Sean but he absolutely performed for them. This is also the perfect time to leave Xavier with in terms of finding a new coach.
What I worry about is the remaining 5 stars that are out there and the NIL he has to go grab them. Those are ours.

If Burries/Peat have NIL$ at the top of their list then they were never coming to the UA anyway.TheCat wrote: Sun Mar 23, 2025 2:08 pm I think Texas is a perfect fit. They will pay a ton for a winner, he will have an unlimited NIL, and also have a definite shot at a National championship.

Re: Coaching Carousel
Fuck SM
He can bring his brand of lack of institutional control to UT.
Will be fun to see him shoehorn Texas 5 stars into miller ball/ pack line / and inability to break a zone.
He’s a prick at his core so going to Texas suits him I guess.

love the stat, merk. also, tough to blame xavier fans for being pissed. it's the second chance thing, yeah, and miller leaving in year 3, sure, and after saying how X was a special place to him and a career destination, fine, buuuuut the stuff about texas locking-in miller years ago? that must really sting. it sounds like they're about to run miller out of town.Merkin wrote: Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:32 pmI imagine CSM burned his bridges at X.Irish27 wrote: Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:24 pm Xavier fans not happy. i guess i can see why he'd take a job at texas, but imo one of miller's greatest strengths is his media savvy and ability to parse analytics and talk strategy. seems like he could easily land a cushy analyst job at a big sports network and not have to deal with all the administrative bs that comes with coaching d1 basketball. dude must really want that f4. his competitive fire is still there.
Re: Coaching Carousel
It could work for him. This NIL era is just going to be different than the past so it’ll be interesting to see.
As long as he doesn’t target those 20-35th ranked freshmen that tell him they’re only going to be there for one year, he just might make it work.

Colorado State coach Niko Medved has agreed to a deal to be the next coach at Minnesota. Going back to his alma mater.
And here’s a tourney name from the past… Ali Farokhmanesh is the leading candidate to replace him.

Yep, the race is on. Will be interesting to see how each squad shapes up for the next couple of years this offseason to see who is in the lead.

The ultimate gravy-trainer, Josh Pastner. I used to resent him but the doomer in me now I kinda wants to see how far he can get with what little ability he has. The patron saint of mediocrity.

Kind of surprised Pastner gave up the broadcast booth. Going to working 20 hours a week to 60 or more.
Guess the money read too good to pass up.

Re: Coaching Carousel
My fear is it won't be pretty. Sean, already a excellent recruiter, will have tremendous resources at his disposal. I'm worried about this year now that he is at Texas. New coaches generate excitement when they are a proven commodity. We are chasing two highly rated recruits that Sean will go after I'm sure.Chicat wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 11:55 amYep, the race is on. The SEC, like I predicted 2 years ago, will be tops because of the gap in resources. Resources is not just NIL it is venues, coaches, fan support etc.. My hope is that most of the NIL goes to football but some of the teams are smart and they have already indicated they will not be growing their rosters and concentrating on the guys they have now. They also have an involved commissioner.
