The money issue is tricky, but if football has zero chance of being competitive we may as well make sure basketball stays as competitive as possible.
Yeah I was too. Especially when this coach told me how important to winning games the lockerroom is. I dunno how many wins that translates into but its better than the alternative.

The money issue is tricky. And it is why I never fell for the B12 nonsense OTOS. Admittedly I was a big P10/12 guy and thought much of the anti-conference stuff was either nonsense or spilled milk, or both. But Robbins’ move was to get Arizona in to the B1G or the SEC. He knew this without me telling him, though I did, more than once lol.

Not sure we need to leave for another planet based on 1 season but what the SEC and its $$$ did to college hoops last season worried/worries me wrt Arizona’s future. I have always felt that we/Robbins got relegated in the end but I had held out hope that maybe basketball would find a way to be mostly independent of the 2 Supers and their football playoff.

Look at the KP conference rankings for hoops this past season:
1. SEC
2. B1G

I dont believe that has ever happened before in the KP era and the ACC and Big East — both former national powers — both suck and the Pac who often was better than the SEC is kaput.

Worrisome.

Well if we all wanna end up in the B1G or the SEC, then gutting our football program's spending is the last thing we should be doing.

I dont know what it takes to make it into 1 of the Supers but I used to think Arizona’s research chops and size (alumni size/population is an unreported significant player here) might help it gain backdoor entry into the B1G. Plus, Arizona’s all-around attendance is pretty good, though obviously football is an outlier (need an enclosed stadium if you’re a dreamer).

But you’re right.

At the least Arizona football needs to remain competitive. Problem is word on the street is that we can’t compete financially. Maybe congress or the ncaa and the courts can help there someday? And they aren’t going to be of direct help if Brennan isnt up to the job.

But, the long term play was not the Big 12. Supporting that move was at best a “best of the losing alternatives” stance. At best. And it lacked the long term understanding that it would eventually fail.

If Arizona fans want the department to prosper long term, baring a solution that prevents the B1G and SEC from taking everything, they need to help the University figure out how to get in to 1 of the Supers.
