- Authorities say 17 dogs have been found dead at a Gilbert pet boarding service while five died in an unrelated fire at a breeder's home in Scottsdale.
The Arizona Republic reports Saturday that Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say the Gilbert deaths are a "tragic accident."
Investigators say one of the dogs chewed through a power cord attached to an air-conditioning unit at the Green Acre boarding business. They say the dogs died from heat exhaustion.
The sheriff's office says workers checked on the dogs late Thursday and found the pets dead when they returned early Friday.
Someone is telling fairy tales to the cops about when he or she last checked on those dogs.
