41-34 cats losing at half time.
if we can't make some damn buckets, and they call fouls in the 2nd half like they did for the first 18 minutes of that half....we're toast.

Sack up on D and we win this game in the second half.

The understatement of the week.84Cat wrote:Wow, we are playing like shit!
Bash jacking up shot after shot he shouldn't be taking.
Johnson having a bad afternoon
Matador defense (numerous wildcats)
Leaving asu shooters open for wide open 3's
At the moment it looks like asu wants this more than we do.

Re: Game 23, at ASU
Refs kept us from extending our lead earlier, then helped assu stay in it until they got red hot from the floor while we went ice cold.
that was a very frustrating half, to say the least.
Hopefully TJ doesn't get any more cheapie fouls in the 2nd half

Between Ashley, RHJ and Tarc has any one of them gotten better this year? Can Sean Miller develop talent? We know he can attract it but I'm not seeing a lot of improvement in these players.

Letting them shoot 53% is unacceptable.
Re: Game 23, at ASU
Yes they are because they have three extra players on the floor.TheGreatCatsby wrote:ASSU playing outta their mind, looking much better than they are

Re: Game 23, at ASU
I can't stand seeing that smug look on Kevin O'neil's face as he talks about the weaknesses of Arizona. He can't even speak, how is he hired as an announcer?
Aside from that, very ugly first half. Have to make some adjustments. Where is the offense going to come from? If we don;t make buckets it leads to transition points for ASSU. Have to score and setup the half court D. Why so many difficult shots? They aren;t good defensively....challenge them.

ASSU shooting 53.3% from the floor, and 5-5 from the line
UA shooting 40.5% from the floor, and 0-2 from the line (should be 0-3 since one of those misses was the front end of a 1 and 1).
ASSU outrebounding UA 21-17

Re: Game 23, at ASU
our guys have forgotten how to distribute the ball on offense. where's the smart extra pass?
Re: Game 23, at ASU
Legitimate question. Given the size advantage we have at the 4/5 we should have been posting up and pounding it inside.....but we started jacking up jump shots with predictable results. Our level of energy on the defensive end resembles our effort in Corvallis.cpt wrote:Between Ashley, RHJ and Tarc has any one of them gotten better this year? Can Sean Miller develop talent? And I can't help but thinking that a few of the players are "Auditioning" when they jack up shots they shouldn't be.

This is a defensive effort. Don't think we're playing THAT bad offensively

Re: Game 23, at ASU
I've been saying this for a while. No one has gotten better from last season. And when you lose Nick and Aaron Gordon someone has to step up. Yes we added Stanley, but we also expected these three to take steps forward. I suppose all 3 will still get drafted just based on promise alone. And RHJ is an excellent defender.cpt wrote:Between Ashley, RHJ and Tarc has any one of them gotten better this year? Can Sean Miller develop talent? Re: Game 23, at ASU
It's a lot like the UNLV game, even though the score is worse. ASU outmatching our effort on the glass, and we're not defending.

SJ 3-9
Bash 1-5

Re: Game 23, at ASU
Give it a rest regarding the refs folks. The refs are not:
Being outrebounded by a smaller less athletic team
Allowing the same smaller team to shoot over 50%
Jacking up jump shots
Turning the ball over (hell, we couldn't even in-bound the ball on the final possession)
The scum want it more and are beating us...........period.

Re: Game 23, at ASU
Outside of the officiating assistance, wtf is w these games? Every year these dudes just chuck and pray and they go in. They had 5 or 6 buckets that had no business going in, at least.
We we on the verge of building that comfortable lead when TJ was sent to the bench w his second foul. Not having Parker is hurting us

Bash's whole season has been an audition. Trying to show he has an outside shot instead of sticking to his strengths inside.dmjcat wrote:Legitimate question. Kaleb...I have no idea what's going on there.
RHJ focuses on defense. It helps us a lot in most games. We need him to be a bit more assertive on offense...he's shown flashes.

Stop settling for jumpers, attack the glass, DEFEND! = win.

That's what always happens when we have foul trouble in the first half. The second half will be a different story.Longhorned wrote:It's a lot like the UNLV game, even though the score is worse. ASU outmatching our effort on the glass, and we're not defending.

We need to play much better defense, like we did in Tucson, and set these phuckers straight.

Re: Game 23, at ASU
Whenever our frontcourt plays bad we struggle. Time to sack up.
Re: Game 23, at ASU
Could easily argue the reason we need to throw up shots is because anytime someone drives it's called an offensive foul. I'd be worried about someone flopping if I drove the lane. Everytime someone falls down they call it a charge.dmjcat wrote:Give it a rest regarding the refs folks. The refs are not:

Brandon is shooting 38% from 3 and he got 2 wide open looks from 3, is he supposed to just not shoot?billk78 wrote:Bash's whole season has been an audition. I hate how someone takes a shot and people say it's "auditioning". No one is out there playing selfish ball

Re: Game 23, at ASU
I agree. ASU will need to be careful with their own foul trouble. The refs were letting ASU play physical, and when they got to a lead, starting calling the game normally again. They suddenly started racking up penalties.AZCatGirl wrote:That's what always happens when we have foul trouble in the first half.
