Search a thread for posts by a user?

Post by PieceOfMeat »

Maybe I'm just missing it, but how do we search a thread for posts by a specific user?

The search box only searches the text we type, so far as I can tell, and doesn't search user names. There doesn't appear to be any option to select and advanced search either.

Someone clue me in please, thanks.
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

I'm already feeling stupid, because I'm sure I'm just missing it....but can you point out where that is?

::::

I think you're referring if I go to the search in the main menu up top.

What I mean, is for example in this thread, not the forum, there is a search box that says "search this topic"...but I want to search for a user's post within this topic, not search what they typed, but search for all of the posts within this topic thread by a specific user.

I clicked on the Search button at the top.

You can put author and forum. Does that help? Not sure if you can do it by thread.

It helps, just provides a ton more results than one is looking for.

We used to be able to do it on TOS, don't know why we couldn't do it here.

There's already a search box within each thread:

I just wish we could search for user's posts also.

Ok, I didn't want to start a new thread but I have a search question. I'm trying to search for old school but when I do it ignores old. This makes the search kind of useless. Does anyone know how to search here that will include old? Usually, if I use parenthesis it will work but not on BDW

I dunno. Use double quote marks maybe? "Old School"

I have never been able to do a search for: police brutality
so both words are too common.

Looking it up, the admin needs to drop the index and rebuilt it but even then it's not guaranteed.
