Like gosling said, this is the most excited I've been about the team since '19.
Why worry about that?

I think you’re mistaking curiosity for pessimism.
Most here tabbed this as a possible sweet sixteen team prior to CSM’s firing (and the personnel changes that came with it) so it’s natural to wonder whether the team is truly still that good or if it’s the competition we’ve played. I hope it’s the former and that we are back to kicking ass. If we are 11-3/12-2 going into the New Year that should have everyone sitting up and taking notice.

He was right. Because there was really nothing to say. No excitement for the new regime. No anticipation of what the returning players will do. Not even a wonder if we’ll be any good.

In past years we’ve talked Arizona hoops for literally hours. This year, beyond the surprise that neither of us seem to care all that much right now, and some observations that Robbins and Heeke may not have killed our love for the program but they certainly put it in a coma, we just moved on to other topics.

Congrats to the Arizona Admin for fucking up to the degree that two diehards are now just occasionally casually interested … maybe.
Are you and your bestie interested in AZ hoops again yet? ;)

All good, Chi. The last couple years strained enthusiasm for many. Here's hoping yours has returned.

We talked between the NAU & UTRGV games. UA basketball didn’t come up from what I remember, but we did chat a little Arizona Football.

Don't think so. Pretty sure that BYU loss is going to wake that team up. Michigan is good. It's just early in the season.

BYU pounded Oregon by almost 40 in Eugene.
Seton Hall won by 2 vs Michigan in Ann Arbor.

No idea what's up with Oregon, but if anyone thinks the Ducks are going to be losing games in their home state by 30+ in Feb/March, I've got a bridge to sell you.

I'm guessing Seton Hall is a little better than expected, and that Michigan is a little slower than expected out of the gate.

Like most, I'm hoping we can get a good win vs. Wichita and then play Michigan on Saturday. Still feel like that's our best possible outcome in Vegas (plus a W over Michigan, of course).

I am very curious to see this team in a real dogfight. We have had some lulls on offense that we’ve so far been able to make up for with stifling defense. I want to see us do that against teams that are more athletic and talented.
NDSU just lost their starting PG who had surgery. That didn't help. IMO, if NDSU was rested and healthy, and played on a neutral floor, the score would be closer to a 20 point win.
I love how much we continue to underestimate our own favorite team.
Predicting a 20 point win against a fringe top-100 team is underestimating the Cats? :|
I mean they did just beat the team in question by over 50 points, so...yes? :P

COVID has a lot to do with it. We were supposed to be done with our home and home with Illinois last year. So that game this year should be a home game vs a big team, but we had to honor our contract and therefore it's now a road game against a big team. The Zaga game was going to be a road game regardless and all Tennessee had room for was a home game, so here we are.

It's great for fans, of course, and we did just have Gonzaga and Illinois here in our last normal season, but I'm not sure why "highest rated home opponent" is even a stat, considering it's much harder to win neutral or on the road against a tough opponent, and we have Illinois and Tennessee on the road, and WSU and possibly Michigan in neutral site games.

And, yeah...to the 2nd post, we have had a hard time scheduling big time OOC opponents for home games for a while, now. The biggest, baddest programs don't typically go on the road unless it is a recruiting hotbed or forced by conference alliances...they play neutrals. Take the 5 best programs not named Gonzaga in any year the last decade and see how many times they travelled to play another power on their own scheduling...there will be trips to play UCLA and other recruiting hotbeds sprinkled in there, but most major programs play one, maybe two, true road games per OOC schedule

Didn’t want to start a new thread but the line on the Wichita St game opened at -8. WICHITA ST GIVING 8 points.

If you believe in Tommy Lloyd you better get down to your local sports book and drop a dime on AZ and drop another dime on the money line.

I am shocked at that line. It is down to -7.5 already locally which isn’t a surprise here in AZ

I think the quality of opponents we have played is making them doubt us. With that said 8 points is a lot. I have seen other teams play on TV and they look fairly good even though not rated. I might take some of that action.
