Australian National Basketball League 2015/16

Post by RichardCranium »

New season starts up with revamped management and sponsors. Clubs with shaky financials appear to have been solidified. Hopefully we won't have clubs threatening to fold in the middle of the season like last year. Foxtel (cable network) will be showing every game live. First game on 7 October.

Melbourne Tigers are no more - they have completed the merger with the old Southeast Melbourne and are now Melbourne United. Star import is Hakim Warrick (ex-Syracuse, ex-Phoenix Suns, ex-(everyteamintheNBA), ex-(everyteaminEurope)). Melbourne United is the consensus pre-season favorite.

Other teams: Cairns Taipans, Townsville Crocodiles, Perth Wildcats, Adelaide 36ers, Sydney Kings, Illawarra Hawks, New Zealand Breakers (Brisbane will be back in the league next year).

Daniel Dillon is nowhere in the league, as far as I can tell. He has been getting League All-Star honors in Romania or somewhere like that for the last couple of years. When he was in the NBL, he played for Tigers and Wizards - so a Melbourne guy through and through.

There doesn't seem to be a ex-ASU wunderkind in the league this year either. But last year teams seemed to be signing imports to 10-day or 3-week contracts while they killed time before going to China, so you never know.
