California is working to pass a bill that will allow college athletes to start making money off their own names and likenesses in 2023. The NCAA is threatening to ban all California schools from NCAA championships/national events and probably would declare all California athletes ineligible.

Great, that would be the beginning of the end for the NCAA as other schools follow suit and form a new athletic association.

Someone has to pay for the free passes elites get from the NCAA.

Cal Poly had filed an appeal with the NCAA, which found in April of 2019 that the college had given 256 student athletes an $800 book stipend. That appeal has now been denied.

According to a report from the NCAA, 72 of those student-athletes used the leftover money to pay for unrelated items such as food, rent, utilities, and car repairs.

The university says it self-reported the mistake, which it describes as a "relatively minor accounting error," to the NCAA in August of 2017 after realizing they overpaid some student-athletes for their textbooks.

The time period in question was from the 2012/2013 school year to the fall of 2015. The decision does not impact current student athletes.

Unfortunately for them, Nebraska fans still think they're one good recruit, new weight machine, new coach away from winning championships like Alabama again.

They are extremely deluded and think Nebraska recruits itself and is where everyone is secretly dying to play at.

The truth is Nebraska hasn't been relevant since almost every current college player has been alive.

So the kid that received over 1m out of high school to go to Ohio St is now transferring.

He took 3 snaps for Ohio St and never made any impact. Those that ponied up this dough have to be sick to there stomach they bet so heavily on a HS are recruit.

I think this is a good thing as that amount was just triggered by a blue blood fan base trying to get the next phenom. I am all for kids getting paid but that was crazy.

I did see where Ole Miss (I think) gave a generous stipend to all of its players based upon ticket sales. I like that collaboration

Dabo is going to have to adapt or die. Its a new day. Like Slim Charles says, game more fierce now.

That said, everything I've ever head from people close to him, near him, collaborate with him etc is that hes the real deal. I know its fun to dunk on people you disagree with, but hes coming from a good-albeit slow to adapt- place.

Tennessee received notice of penalties stemming from Coach Jeremy Pruitt's staff fielding 16 players deemed ineligible due to more than 200 infractions committed during Pruitt's three seasons coaching Tennessee. To the Vols fans I see commenting on how the NCAA could've come down harder - No Bowl or TV Ban - my take is that NCAA penalties have lightened up ever since UNC stood up to them over their grading scandal. This is why I don't think Arizona State can expect too much grief whenever the NCAA finally adjudicates their nearly two year investigation into suspect recruiting during Herm Edwards' tenure.

Penalties as follows:

-$8 million fine
-Five years probation
-Reduction of 28 scholarships over the terms of the probation, including at least two each year. Tennessee previously self-imposed 16 from the previous two seasons (12 in 2021 and four in 2022).
-Reduction of 36 official visits over the term of the probation, including at least four per year. Tennessee must prohibit official visits at 10 regular-season home games, including four SEC games. (Tennessee previously self-imposed a reduction of seven official visits in 2021-22).
-Reduction of 40 weeks of unofficial visits during term of probation, including at least six weeks per year and for at least 10 regular-season home games, four against SEC opponents. (Tennessee self-imposed six weeks in 2021 and two weeks in 2022).
-A ban on recruiting communications totaling 28 weeks during the term of probation, including at least three weeks per year – one each in December and January and another from March to June.
-Reduction in evaluation days by 120 over the term of probation. (Tennessee self-imposed 12 in the fall of 2021 and eight in the spring of 2022.)
-Tennessee also cannot purchase any broadcast advertising for any postseason game in which it is involved this year.
-Finally, vacate all 11 wins from the 2019 and 2020 seasons under former coach Jeremy Pruitt; his final record at Tennessee will be 5-19.

Interesting take on the impact of the somewhat de-fanged NCAA on the ASU situation. You're probably right. I suppose they'd say we got some benefit in hoops. Whatever; I just want to kick their ass in Tempe on November 25.

Due to colleges now having to pay athletes, the NCAA is dictating roster size cuts. In this case, baseball.

When Arizona finished its fall practice period late last month, coach Chip Hale had to cut six players to get the roster down to the maximum of 40 for the 2025 season. Another cut is on the horizon, as part of the landmark NCAA settlement that’s set to be approved next year is a 34-player limit for college baseball.

it's across the board. softball goes from 12 scholarships to a 25-person roster cap with each athlete eligible for 0-1 (or anywhere in-between, but much closer to zero) scholarships. :(

Wow, that really blows. Hope that doesn't end up hurting the quality of the game too much.

List of new roster limits. CFB can now offer 105 scholarships and MBB 15. I imagine that means no more walk ons beyond the 15 for MBB.

https://www.ncsasports.org/blog/ncaa-sc ... imits-2024

https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/ros ... tops%20120.

Doing so, however, will cost an exorbitant amount. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel suggested if his athletic department decided to fund scholarships for every available spot, educational costs under the new rules would add $29 million to annual expenses that are already slated to grow by around $21 million to pay for the new athlete revenue-sharing provisions in the settlement.
.
.
.
The SEC helped its 16 schools answer some questions this fall by announcing it would keep the 85-scholarship limit intact for 2025, while allowing teams to fill the other 20 spots with walk-ons. The 105 roster spots would actually be a net loss, since the average roster size of big-school football teams tops 120.
