What bullshit. Will tip the balance of power and revenue for all sports.

Re: Anyone else see this?
SEC really blew up the CFP last season didn't it? Now they want 4 spots guaranteed?
Re: Anyone else see this?
Burn in hell B1G and the SEC and take ESPIN with you. College sports, at least football, is dead to me. F them all

Yes its bad but the balance of power has already been tipped in favor of the B1G/SEC.TheCat wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:28 am What bullshit. Will tip the balance of power and revenue for all sports.

I'm far more concerned about the upcoming revenue sharing arrangement. The UA is going to be one of the "Have-Nots" that will not be able to participate. This is going to push our football recruiting NIL/Compensation package out of the Top 50, forever. Without $$$ to recruit/pay players the UA is in serious danger of sliding down to UTEP/New Mexico level football. I can easily see the UA administration saying Screw It and dropping football (and a lot of other athletic programs) 5-10 years down the road. The UA athletic budget is still in the Red, and this continued Financial Arms Race that we can't win will only drive the Red up further.
Re: Anyone else see this?
That is my point. If they are guaranteed 4 each in the football playoff that will generate a TON of money for those conferences. The rest of the landscape is going to have to say F you we don't play that way and let them create their own league and then see how much media will play for a final four with just those teams.
Re: Anyone else see this?
ESPIN already mentioned how the rest of the country might feel. The other conferences do need to walk and roll the dice. Make the 32 teams play all games against themselves. It’s time to stand tough

In part out of denial this is what I suggested a couple years ago. In lieu of programs leaving the other conferences and joining the SEC/B1G and for the have nots who were going to get relegated the B12 ACC etc.azcat49 wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 5:38 pm ESPIN already mentioned how the rest of the country might feel. It was probably all over at that time but imo its just a matter of time until the SEC and B1G decides to exclude everyone else from the CFP (they can't do the same thing for the NCAA Tournament because they don't own it, the NCAA does).
Only question is if they will take some other programs not currently in their conferences with them.
My biggest concern has always been: once Arizona gets relegated can we still be a quasiblueblood in hoops?
The performance of the SEC do date this season isn't making me feel very good about that. Forget the iffy transfers we took this past off season.
Re: Anyone else see this?
Well the biggest flaw in that plan is thinking teams would stick together. Programs would jump at a chance to be in either conference.
It appears college sports as we know it is on its death bed

Re: Anyone else see this?
They can go ahead and do it, I'll never watch an SEC or B1G game again
Re: Anyone else see this?
i mean, this is more or less a done deal for 2026 and beyond, right? the question is what will happen next season. oddly, the B1G and SEC would likely have 4+ AQs each in a 12-16 team CFP if they curbed their greed ever so slightly and just shut up and did nothing. the media money pouring into those conferences is so disproportionate that despite the "we all beat each other up" griping, they'll eventually own the upper echelon of the rankings every year as they amass their riches. the CFP revenue distribution model is already tilted heavily in their favor - B1G & SEC get about 60% of the pot; the big12 gets less than 15% of the revenue.
