Dental Implants Anybody got experience/advice?
Mrs. Dove is looking down the barrel of an implant for a single tooth in the lower front region. Any recommendations from someone with experience would be greatly appreciated. Sounds long and inconvenient, potentially 6-12 months if bone graft is needed. Alternatives appear to be bridges which would be less invasive and time consuming. Any experience with those as well? Thanks in advance. She's nervous about multiple procedures over several months.

IMNSHO. which is exactly worth what you've paid for it is, in an otherwise healthy mouth, the transplant probably offers the best outcome.dovecanyoncat wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:50 am Mrs. Dove is looking down the barrel of an implant for a single tooth in the lower front region. The "ordeal" of the transplant is a legitimate cost/benefit concern, but friends with transplants are really happy with the outcome.

I had 1 tooth implant. It was expensive but I don’t remember experience being that terrible
It did take a while but you aren’t left with a hole in your mouth for that long. From my crappy memory…. They have to remove the tooth…. Wait… they need to put the implant screw in … wait but they give you a temporary tooth… then you get you new tooth. I think entire process was like less than 3 months?

I'm in the middle of an implant to replace a tooth with a root canal and crown that got infected bad and had to go. Currently have the healing abutment attached to the implant which was put in about 2 weeks ago. In about two months if it has healed well I will get the permanent abutment and then the crown shortly after
I got accepted at the a Midwestern Dental School up here in Glendale. It saved me so much money. I think I'm probably under $1000 total so far.
The only disadvantage to the the school is it takes a little longer for appointments. My two students are awesome (one 4th year and one 3rd year). Everything is double checked by the instructors.
I decided against a bridge because they would have had to shave down a good canine tooth, didn't want to do that.
My wife went through the same tooth issue about 6 months later. She is leaning towards not replacing the tooth at all since it's farther back.

Just finished getting one. No big deal other than the cost and the time between getting the implant and installing the crown. This is my second one.

Thanks guys. Her situation is almost exactly like Eebs': previous root canal job with bad infection. Eval upcoming; bone graft need as yet unknown. Got a wicked bad amoxycillan rash to boot. Fun times.

Wishing her all the best DCC. Can’t imagine having to deal with all that on top of living with you.

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
