Not sure why he was complaining about Sampson targeting ADO, TT and CB. That's just good basketball.
Nothing about the players being gassed the last 5 minutes though. And 3 air balls in this time.
The UA led 62-61 with 5:23 left—after being down 10 six minutes earlier—but didn’t make a field goal the rest of the way, missing its final five shots and turning it over three times down the stretch including on consecutive possessions when down two and four points in the last 1:09 as Houston (30-4) locked down on defense.

He wasn't complaining about Houston / Sampson targeting certain players- he was complaining about our players not being up to the challenge of being targetedMerkin wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 7:56 am "We're closing the gap". Now where have I heard that before?

That makes sense, but ADO can't will himself some lateral quickness, or Townsend increase his basketball IQ. Only one that can and will get better is Bryant. Quit falling for shot fakes for one.
Seems to me that is a lot on Lloyd having them out there with no help. Maybe work on a zone in the off season.
Reminds of his odd comment he made a couple weeks ago when asked if the players were tired. He said something like they need to go deeper and get more strength.

He mentioned he could have played zone, but he said it in a disparaging/defeatist sort of way. In his mind, his players needed to step up to the challenge.Merkin wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:49 amAlieberman wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:30 amHe wasn't complaining about Houston / Sampson targeting certain players- he was complaining about our players not being up to the challenge of being targetedMerkin wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 7:56 am "We're closing the gap". Re: Tommy Lloyd
This goes back to the argument of why we signed ADO and TT. Some will say it’s all we could afford and others will say we were targeting role players and they don’t cost as much along with its basketball and it’s relatively cheap.
Right from the tip everyone knew this was not a gaME for ADO. TT cake in and promptly lost his man in transition and gave up three each time and was immediately pulled and only got back in when CB took a nutt shot.
He should only be mad at himself for the poor eval’s of these guys. It will be interesting if he parts ways with ADO

Re: Tommy Lloyd
With the new rules regarding roster limits, I would certainly hold onto him. You can have 16 players next season, and all of them can be scholarship players. No more walk-ons, although junior Lloyd can probably remain on as one of the 16. No need to RhettRod him, being the UA pays his dad millions, he gets tuition discounts, and in-state residency.
I also doubt ADO would ever go. Go back to taking buses to games?

The coaches need to figure out how to get ADO open shots.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
I think the bigger issue is that he can't stay in the game for long enough stretches to get continual good looks. He gets singled out on defense by the other teams and turns into a liability.Postmaster wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 3:04 pm The coaches need to figure out how to get ADO open shots.
If he could play passable defense then I think it would open up his offensive game opportunities.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
The thought of trying to figure out how to get ADO “open looks” is never going to happen now that you are playing good teams who know he’s our best 3 point shooter.
And because he really can’t create his own shots since defenses and his well documented defensive liabilities means he will not be seeing more than 12-15 minutes in this Tournament.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
I will never understand why CTL thinks our two weakest rotation players should be in against the other teams best players at the moments they are most rested.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
Did you watch Kelvin Sampson's presser. He said the same thing. They would iso on 3 guys when they were in and run right at them. Said V is an absolute beast the way he plays. Said Tobe was also someone they had problems with.EastCoastCat wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:05 pm Man, CTL was pissed at the presser. Houston running ISO’s in the second half and our guys not “man-ing up” and getting stops irritated him to no end.
