Utah is also dealing with a fair bit of injuries. Starting center was just lost for the year and IIRC they've got 2 other O line guys hurt and some DL guys. Possibly their best WR as well. They have enough trouble throwing the ball. If Arizona can have a healthy backfield for this game, they'll have a punchers chance.

But is their injury worst than Arizona thou were we lost most of our playmakers.

Utah is not a playmaker kind of team. They play a "grind you into the ground" kind of football. Their QB is decent but not great. If they're missing key O line and D line guys, well, those ARE their playmakers. They can't afford to get into a shootout with Arizona, which could happen if AZ can put a healthy backfield out there. The Utes aren't built to chase points.

It's on the road but I think this is a great game for Tate to start in. I would love to see him with Zach Green and keep TJ in the slot or as a change of pace back

How about both of them back there is a 2 back set like RR hinted about a week or 2 ago.

I don't like that because then the back up QB becomes Werlinger as you would have to move Tate back to QB and then if he gets hurt you are playing guy that couldn't start at Pima.

If Dawkins has bruised ribs I don't see how you run him out there this week anyways so get Tate some playing time

I think if RR had another healthy RB or two he'd go with the two back set. But as thin as they are right now, you're playing with fire having both of them out there. Enough injuries already, so you don't want to risk guys more than you have to. As far as whether or not they'll put a healthy backfield out there... we don't know how hurt Dawkins is and they still have Wilson listed at 1 on the depth chart (I don't know how much I buy into that.) Therea a slim chance that we could see the 1s out there but as I said, slim.

I meant Green and Johnson in the backfield together.

Oh OK. Yea I like that. I think we also need to have a TE on every play for Tate. Make for some easy outlet throws to build confidence plus we have an extra big body to help with blocking

That's the thing with RR, he says things like :

1) we need to get bigger and we will address this in recruiting
2) we want to use the TE more and will recruit accordingly
3) we had plans to use 2 backs
4) we have shown guys how we will get them in space

For the most part it has been all lip service. He just does what he does which is read option football 101. He finally ran a reverse against Hawaii. Do you think we could see a jet sweep 1 time with TJ so I doubt it CST

doesn't that fall under the general definition of "coach speak" ?

Offensive line recruiting is fine, IMO, it's the front seven that I've been screaming about for 5 or 6 years now. In his defense a lot of well regarded LBs have been signed on. It's that too many have not worked out well. Finding bodies for the front for has been hopeless and negligent.

I do hate that Neal hasn't been working out at CB, but it is what it is. I'd like to see him get the ball in his hands on offense.

He started out at WR. Still wasn't very good.

I was thinking the same thing when he first went off, but if I remember correctly he was walking around the sideline holding his helmet the set of the way.

Either way, if he does see the field, unfortunately it seems like it is only a matter of time before he gets banged up again.

We're hitching our wagon to Tate and that's that. I don't know what the severity of BD's rib injury is, but as someone who broke 5 of them once, they hurt like a mother and take a long time to heal. I certainly wouldn't blame the kid for not being able to go. I thought he was a stud for giving it the go he did last week after he got banged up. Gonna be hard to hold my breath for an entire game every time someone is coming after Tate.

They've described it as a bruise, so it may not take too long to heal, but I'd agree it's gonna be the Tate show this week. Even if it's just a bad bruise, it's going to take a bit, and that affects your ability to run, throw, turn, breathe... stuff that might be slightly important for a QB. It's going to be interesting considering that Tate got gassed pretty easily at sea level last week, and now he's going to Rice-Eccles. He's going to have to carry a considerable amount of the load himself.

It's interesting about Tate being gassed after that first series and beyond last week. It was obvious to see and surprising that an athlete like him would be so out of breath. You'd expect a certain level of athletic fitness regardless of previous live game action. To me, it almost looked like he was hyperventilating with adrenaline and sensory overload in the excitement of the moment - as opposed to being truly gassed; i.e., he was freaking out! He didn't seem comfortable at first, but obviously performed pretty well. Curious to see if he's a little more settled this week with the expectation and preparation of starting.

Didn't puke like Scott though, so he has that going for him.

Being a 4th string QB to start the season has to put a little damper on putting extreme effort into fitness.

RichRod said when he went to check on him down on the ground after he got the wind knocked out of him, Tate was smiling. "His big butt was just tired." So yeah, maybe some of it was just excitement.

Jake Matthews - broken toe. Isaiah Hayes left with a likely concussion. Dawkins out as well and speculation it was a concussion. Ippolito out and announcers were saying knee. This is crazy.

We are essentially a mid major gimmicky team playing in a high major conference.

Its no wonder we are decimated by injuries. Just straight up physics.

Just shut up about that. If you think Arizona is a powerhouse then tell those recruit to come to Arizona. No one predicted this year was going to be bad.

I could go back and look, but pretty sure after the BYU game I was saying the Cats would go 2-7 the first 9 games. But had WSU and ntOSU as wins. Not sure about those any more after last weekend.

Merkin everyone is acting like Arizona is a powerhouse level team, were 2-4 with growing injury to bite us in the @@@. Look our expectation isn't high this year and everyone should have lower their chances. At some point, RR and Staff need to salvage this season. Like I said no one predicted it was going to be this bad with injury piling up to creep at us again. Should we really throw RR under the bus for that.
