Upset Friday!
Two Top 10 undefeated teams go down - that probably hasn't happened on a Friday before.

What is going on in Tempe tonight?
Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
The Husky kicker has missed from 27 yards and 21 yards.
Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
Well let's hope UDub can score twice in the 4th. Shocked Peterson didn't go for it on 4th and 1

No confidence in the O tonight: UW has 53 rushing yards this game and is lucky only to be down two TDs.
If the Huskies do lose, they should hold open tryouts for a new placekicker next week.

How the hell is ASU pitching a shutout?

This might knock the PAC out of the playoffs.

Dave Pasch saying how kickers are the most stressed players, getting death threats if they miss, etc. Literally while he's saying that, camera is on the UW kicker, with a graphic including his name and the stat that the last time a top-5 team's kicker missed two 30-yard or less kicks was the Boise State kid a few years ago.

Also, wtf is Wilkins doing? Wait 5 seconds before kneeling (which was unnecessary), and then he's barking at the UW guys trying to get to him. Take a knee like a normal QB and there's no problem.

Similar. Bones went in directions they dont normally do. They didnt show the replay that would have shown it better, thankfully. I dont even know how it quite happenedprh wrote:I'm not going to rewind to see it again, but was that a Kevin Ware type injury?MrBug708 wrote:That was an awful injury

It was necessary. There was something like 1:56 when they started kneeling. Needed to stay on his feet a few extra seconds to be able to burn the clock in 3 downs. The coaches were telling him to delay before taking the knee.prh wrote:Also, wtf is Wilkins doing? Nah. Just believe the whole cycling out a coach every 4-5 years in hopes of finding the next great coach is a fools errand. Grahams failures come down to two distinct factors, both of which are fixable. One, he had two bad years of recruiting defensive backs. ASU was in on some top-tier DB's late but fell just short, and Graham didn't have a back up plan. The worst pass defense in NCAA is a direct reflection of that failure. Two, he has had unprecedented coaching turnover two years in a row. To his credit, his coaches on offense have all gotten nice promotions (take a look at his offensive coaching tree, its actually quite impressive.
Since Graham arrived, ASU football has been successful in the classroom (program currently holds a 3.0 GPA), recruiting is greatly improved, fundraising and University support is at unprecedented levels, and even with the last couple of years Graham has been one of the winningest coaches in program history. The current team has shown clear improvement week to week, and the coordinators are starting to settle in. For the first time Graham is taking on more of a CEO approach and letting his coaches coach.
Graham is not Ray Anderson's hire though. So Graham will have to finish strong to keep his job. That said, I would absolutely extend him for the reasons listed above.

Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
I wonder if Blake Barnett is happy he transferred to asu? Manny Wilkins is actually not a bad qb and I can't see Graham benching him. I guess Barnett can only hope Manny gets hurt to see the field.

40 second play clock, 1st down, no timeouts. Nice try but learn how football works.Scummy Dick Douglas wrote:It was necessary. There was something like 1:56 when they started kneeling. So, Cal fans rush the field after their upset of the Cougars and the school gets a $25,000 fine, but ASSu fans rush the field after their upset of the Dogs (after waiting approx 60 seconds) and get nothing. makes perfect sense.

Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
Woops, I was thinking of the 35 second shot clock when doing the math. Anyways, Wilkins delaying the knee basically burned an extra 5 seconds off the clock. Add those 5 seconds back in, and there is a 4 second difference between end of game and turnover on downs. With an upset of that magnitude on the line I am not sure what the issue with burning a few extra seconds is.prh wrote:40 second play clock, 1st down, no timeouts. I read somewhere that because the UW players were off the field before the fans rushed it was permissible according to the conference.azgreg wrote:So, Cal fans rush the field after their upset of the Cougars and the school gets a $25,000 fine, but ASSu fans rush the field after their upset of the Dogs (after waiting approx 60 seconds) and get nothing. makes perfect sense.
Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
Have you ever watched an NFL game? I don't understand how you still don't get it. 2:00 minute warning in NFL makes it easy. A 1st down, at 2:00, with no timeouts, means you can take 3 knees and be done. 40 seconds burn after the first knee (2:00 - 2 seconds for the knee - 39 = 1:19), 40 seconds burn after the 2nd knee (1:19 - 2 - 39 = 0:38), and then 38 seconds end the game after the 3rd knee. And that's generous, since there's usually a couple extra seconds between the play ending and the 40 starting.Scummy Dick Douglas wrote:Woops, I was thinking of the 35 second shot clock when doing the math. And the "issue" was that he was being an idiot and then barking at Cal about it, when it was unnecessary. But I guess he probably suffers math issues similar to you.

Re: 2017 Non-Arizona game thread
This is PAC 12 officiating we are talking about here. Technically you are right, there was just enough time to burn through the clock in 3 downs. But even if Manny took a single second between snap and knee, that leaves a 5 second difference between end of regulation and turnover on downs. Would you risk leaving it to PAC 12 officiating to not somehow fuck up 5 seconds? The coaches told him to slow down. Here is what it looks like if he hikes and takes a knee in one second:prh wrote:Have you ever watched an NFL game? 1st down
1:56 - ball snapped
1:55 - Wilkins takes a knee
2nd down
- 39 seconds
1:16 - ball snapped
1:15 - Wilkins takes a knee
3rd down
-39 seconds
0:36 - ball snapped
0:35 - Manny takes a knee
The coaches told Wilkins to slow it down. Instead of kneeling in one second he took 2-3 seconds to kneel, basically taking that 5 second buffer and making it 10 seconds. You may think it was classless, just realize it was the coaches not Wilkins who chose to burn a few extra seconds.

How bad is UCLA defensively?
Kyle BonaguraVerified account @BonaguraESPN
UCLA is allowing 6.57 yards per rush this season. In the last 14 years, no Power 5 program has allowed more. 2nd worst: 6.17 ypc.
And the Bruins are allowing 313.0 rushing yards per game. The 2nd worst mark by a Power 5 team since 2004 is 279.9 ypg.

Uhhh anyone see the end of regulation for Iowa Northwestern? Pat Fitzgerald had a minute and 2 timeouts on his own 30 and didn't even try to score. Just let it go to OT

Utah can't so anything against ASSu. They have 65 yards of offense halfway thru the 2nd qtr.
