Re: '17/18 Polls
I think certain people are just trolling us. Certain analysts love to F with our fanbase, we have all seen it for years. What better way to troll Arizona fans than to use their typical games, as well as one of the only times in history that our hated rival actually has a good team. We have a rep of being a 2nd tier program with a whining fan base, even though our complaints about bias are almost always justified.

His whole ballot is ridiculous. The AP should enact some standards as far as who gets a vote.PieceOfMeat wrote:Apparently this doughty character has a history of ridiculous/insane ballots.Chicat wrote:Douglas Doughty at the Roanoke Times had us 18th last week and dropped us to 23rd this week.

Kansas about to get their 3rd loss, two at home. We should be ahead of them if we win.

AZ is once again the highest ranked team with the same number of losses (4). It is interesting that NC of the vaunted ACC is 15th with 4 losses.

Voters must have really valued UNC’s win at home over Clemson to move them ahead of us, despite the fact we swept on the road.
And to make the ACC echo chamber complete, they moved Clemson up two spots despite losing to UNC.

To be fair, UNC also beat a Notre Dame team that just lost it's two star players. They also have wins over Michigan and Ohio State, and while those wins are from when those teams were not very good and still figuring out their season - those teams are now good and the "voters don't remember context" property applies.Chicat wrote:Voters must have really valued UNC’s win at home over Clemson to move them ahead of us, despite the fact we swept on the road.

Our guys deserve a ton of credit for not unraveling after the Bahamas. They’re right where they need to be. Win the Pac 12 reg season title, reach the final of the Pac tourney, and we’re gonna be in great shape seed-wise.
Re: '17/18 Polls
It's too bad A&M has pretty much collapsed, that win would look better on the resume right now. Asu still looks solid on paper. Lets see how much they continue to slid.
Re: '17/18 Polls
Noticed that. And I still don't get the love for St. Mary's and Gonzaga. That conference is trash. Other than BYU, every team in the WCC is comparable to Cal & Wazzu.Chicat wrote:Voters must have really valued UNC’s win at home over Clemson to move them ahead of us, despite the fact we swept on the road.

Where are duke unc and Kansas?
Re: '17/18 Polls
Dook stayed at #4, KU to #7, UNC #19. Asu still ranked at #25.
Re: '17/18 Polls
It's not that I don't think they're solid teams. It's just that their conference is garbage. Every team other than St. Mary's, Gonzaga and BYY could not finish higher than Cal in the PAC 12. And Cal is dreadful. Imagine playing an entire conference schedule and only have to worry about 3-4 games.Olsondogg wrote:St. Mary's is a good team and program, or are you forgetting last year?

Before upset Saturday, Duke was #4, KU#7 and Arizona #9.
Duke lost to an absolutely putrid St. John's team that had lost 11 in a row.
Kansas lost at home to a decent Oklahoma State team.
Arizona lost on the road at the buzzer to a decent UW team.
It will be telling to see which team is punished more by the voters. My gut tells me we'll slip to 12 or 13. Duke will slide one spot, perhaps two at the most. And Kansas will slip two spots behind Cincy & Texas Tech.

DOok will prob fall 2 spots, jaycocks will prob fall 2. We'll def fall behind auburn and TT, and if it's the typical east coast media BS where 90% of them didn't watch the game they drop us behind ST marys and zags, which would be garbage. Should be 11, but could be 13.
Re: '17/18 Polls
Well if we had any impressive wins we probably wouldn't be punished as hard in the polls. These other teams at least have beat some ranked teams.

Re: '17/18 Polls
Does anyone think the Pac is being legitimately screwed in the polls, or does the conference deserve this treatment? I do recall ASU and UW beating Kansas, UCLA beating UK, and ASU also beating Xavier. So based on the "eye test," yes, the league is down a little. But just how little is hard to say. I think our top 4 teams would do just fine against teams currently ranked 15-25 in the nation.

Re: '17/18 Polls
At least he didn't use the "n" word in a non-derogatory way.
Re: '17/18 Polls
I'm convinced 75% of the pollsters basically see the Pac 12 & the WCC on the same level. In reality, one is a weaker power 5 conference and the other is a mid-major conference (barely) that's annually top heavy with Gonzaga and St. Mary's. So if Gonzaga or St. Mary's beat a 6th or 7th place team in the WCC, it's basically taken by 75% of the pollsters as equal to Arizona beating a Stanford, Oregon or ASU.
The reality is, outside of BYU, Gonzaga and St. Mary's, the rest of the WCC went 1-7 against the Pac 12 this year. The WCC's top 3 went 3-1 vs. the Pac 12. St. Mary's, the top team in the WCC, went 1-1 against..... Cal & Washington State, the two weakest teams by far in the Pac. Gonzaga beat UW & BYU beat Utah.
So, Gonzaga & St. Mary's sit artificially in the polls in the top 15. The only challenges on their schedule are games against each other. But it's nearly impossible for any Pac 12 teams to make a move in the polls at this point in the season unless it's at the expense of Arizona. USC, USC, UCLA and UW will not climb into the top unless they can claim a scalp from Arizona. And as the voters proved this week with UW, even that wasn't good enough despite their win at Kansas.

Re: '17/18 Polls
Right behind St. Mary's... whose best NonConf win is hosting New Mexico St. and who has more games OUTSIDE of the top 200 than games inside of the top 100. And to go one step deeper... New Mexico St has played more Division II teams than they have wins over teams within the top 100. To be fair, St. Mary's also has a home win over Utah, a team that is barely over .500 in the Pac-12.
It's fine. Win and it's not a problem. @ASU next.

We need to start treating each game like the postseason. A slow start could be fatal vs. ASU. I'll be curious to see the spread on this game.
