My dog could plan better than that. RR under investigation since October, Heeke allegedly resolved to fire RR long ago, and insufficient money in place for RR's replacement? Unlikely.UALoco wrote:My guess is that the AD is tapped after giving RR 6MM to leave and needs a donor to commit to 3-4MM a year(on top of what the AD can pay which is maybe 2-3MM/yr) for the next five years to sign Miles or Sumlin.

No way on Troy Brown. Good coach with zero west coast connections. Zero. I just Tweeted about him a few days ago too.

I get your concern. I am not 100% certain that Miles is the guy... but we could do a lot worse.ChooChooCat wrote:Rich recruited very well at Michigan and did win a lot previously. Ok that's fair, but I have a better question for you Harvey. Can you name a coach who got fired from a P5 job that moved on to success at another P5 job?Harvey Specter wrote:I get your concern. Either way if Les was 10 years younger I'd be full on Viagra erect at the prospect of him as our coach. I've seen too many guys on the opposite end of this age either start a downtrend at their current jobs or never be able to repeat their success from a decade earlier. In our case Les would have to run an entire makeover of our defense and hope to god he can hire a competent OC that can work with Tate until Desert Swarm 2.0 is reborn. Tall order for a guy on the wrong side of 60. In basketball it's certainly possible primarily because all you need is a couple of top notch players to succeed, but in football it's infinitely more difficult.

If you can get Brown with 9 assistants heavily connected with the west coast then bring him on, but yeah good luck on the recruiting end unless that occurs. I do like Brown however.chiefzona wrote:No way on Troy Brown. Good coach with zero west coast connections. Zero. I just Tweeted about him a few days ago too.

If he changed his first name to match the school he coaches at, he seems pretty committed to them and we might not be able to pull him.chiefzona wrote:No way on Troy Brown. Good coach with zero west coast connections. Zero. I just Tweeted about him a few days ago too.
Re: Arizona Coaching Search
Good God. If we hire the Troy coach I'm going to flip my shit. It's scary how much I find myself agreeing with Chief when it comes to this search.
Would be nice if we could find someone who wouldn't come off as such a total outsider. That doesn't mean the guy we hire has to be from Arizona, but for the love of God can it please be somebody who is not from the east coast or deep south.....with zero West Coast connections, who would view Tucson akin to Mars.
I spent last night youtubing Baldwin interviews and pregame pep talks and he strikes me as someone who 'would fit' in Tucson.

The deeper we get in the search, the more comfortable I am with an alum... I'm scared this won't end well.

Tosh Lupoi

I'm just spit balling here.
Re: Arizona Coaching Search
Isn't he essentially DC in waiting at Bama? Other than the co-title this year, he wasn't ever a DC was he? All I remember from him was being an insanely good recruiter.

It would be nice to see what Lupoi could do with Schooler.
Re: Arizona Coaching Search
This may be naïve of me (plus we just mentioned him randomly, he may not even be a thought), but Tosh Lupoi makes me more excited than Beau Baldwin. I think the name resonates more with recruits and the Saban family tree isn't so bad. Have a strong feeling that if he did not keep Yates, he'd take a long look at Salavea for DC. Familiarity from UW/Wazzu days.
EDIT: Imagine that Poly pipeline.

Re: Arizona Coaching Search
where is Heeke now, is that known? It seems this search has been really light on rumors and speculation, don't know if that's cause Heeke's doing a good job of keeping it private.....or because there just hasn't been much to speculate on.

If Heeke actually pulls off a Sumlin hire I will be truly impressed. Sumlin would be a Grand Slam type hire.

Chief has said in the past Heeke was in over his head. If he pulls this off I think we can confidently lay that to rest.
I'm skeptical he can pull it off, but anything is possible.

Hopeful but still waiting for something definitive.

This is starting to feel like a game AZ is getting blown out in so I flip the channel. Look and see its close late, start watching only to see the other team go up big again.

Actually, in reality Sumlin is MUCH closer to being RRod 2.0 than Miles is. Sumlin is an offensive minded coach with a shitty defensive record......who has an overall winning percentage closer to RRod. Miles is the Anti-RRod.........Defense first coach with a significantly better overall record.

You're right plus Sumlin and Rich Rod are roughly the same age, while Miles is 10 years their senior. Sign me up, old guys have tons of energy and recruit great, especially to Arizona when they hire assistants that they know and are familiar with who have zero ties to the west coast.dmjcat wrote:ChooChooCat wrote:Sell me on Les being anything other than Rich Rod v2.0 minus the banging other women repeatedly of course.PHXCATS wrote:ANY and I mean it ANY school minus LSU, Bama and Ohio State would have given Miles a lifetime dealChooChooCat wrote:Hard pass on Helfrich and Rich Rod part deux (Les Miles)

Fact: Miles had better recruiting classes (EVERY Year) in the SEC than the younger Sumlin. The AD who was in over his head was Greg Byrne. I'm sure he learned a lot and can do a better job at Alabama.Gladiator Cat wrote:Chief has said in the past Heeke was in over his head. If he pulls this off I think we can confidently lay that to rest.

Don't know who Heeke will hire, but I hope it will be better than the RR hire.
Re: Arizona Coaching Search
Watching NC ESPN Coach's Film Room, Sumlin is awfully quiet like his mind is on something else. David Cutcliffe is outclassing the rest.
