Was able to find a link for a replay. This actually wasn't Spain PNR, it was part of our chest series for Zeke.TucsonClip wrote:
Spain PNR
I believe we finally busted out a Spain PNR, if I saw it correctly. (was jotting down some notes, so take a look for me)
With 1:20 left in the 1H, you will see the first Spain PNR I recall us running this year. Nico ends up setting the back screen for Zeke, as Nico comes back up top of the key to get the ball. I don’t think we scored though.
For those wondering, a Spain PNR is a set made popular by the Spanish national team, which was then adopted by every team in the NBA. The gist of it is, instead of a regular ball screen, a guard/wing (in this case Nico) steps in from the wing to set a back screen for the big after the initial middle ball screen action. This allows the big to dive to the block and get great position off a back screen, or for the screener to then come off a hand off with the guard running the screen action for an open three, top of the key.

I'm starting to think a heavy Western State Final Four is not impossible this year...Gonzaga is probably actually the best team in the country now...but there are some heavy hitters in the West in general...East coast is gonna beat itself up like it always does...the Zags, BYU, SDSU, not to mention the Pac 12 where there is a ton of experience ready to roll into the tournament...hopefully the committee doesn't stack the teams in favor of Duke and the East Coa...wait...what am I thinking...it'll be the same ol' same ol'...thanks NCAA for nothing.
Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
Don't forget Baylor (south West). To me they are the best team in the country.
Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
I think BYU sucks. And SDSU is solid but hasn’t played anyone other than Creighton and Iowa. Not exactly a who’s who. Mt. West is weak.CatFanOneMil wrote:I'm starting to think a heavy Western State Final Four is not impossible this year...Gonzaga is probably actually the best team in the country now...but there are some heavy hitters in the West in general...East coast is gonna beat itself up like it always does...the Zags, BYU, SDSU, not to mention the Pac 12 where there is a ton of experience ready to roll into the tournament...hopefully the committee doesn't stack the teams in favor of Duke and the East Coa...wait...what am I thinking...it'll be the same ol' same ol'...thanks NCAA for nothing.
St.Marys could be an upset team with Jordan Ford.

Wel, well. Look who is in first place in the B1G, Illinois. That win looks better and better everyday. Telling you if we can get some confidence on the road the ceiling for this team is very high!!

Agree 100%. Big game tonight, imo. Feels like a fork in the road. One path is the first road win and wind at our backs heading up to Washington. The other is yet another road loss with two harder road games next week.azcat49 wrote:Wel, well. Look who is in first place in the B1G, Illinois. That win looks better and better everyday. It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

Has to be the worst half basketball an Arizona team has ever played. Just complete garbage.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

Terrible. Sorta felt it coming too. This team is the worst road team Miller’s had.

We were out toughed tonight. This team needs to play with more heart and passion if they want to win on the road and in March.

We relatively suck that bad and are coached that poorly relative to our talent.

Just got back home from that miserable abortion of a game.
I have left Wells Fargo Arena/Sun Devil Stadium before after a loss.......but this may have been the worst.
I haven''t seen any stats yet but it felt like we had 30 turnovers.
At this point, assuming we have no more bad losses (which is probably wishful thinking) we split the remaining 3 road trips and find a way to beat 2 out of 3 of UW/USC/UO at home (and win the rest of the home games). That would give us 10 losses and a 9/10 seed. If we get swept on one of the remaining 3 road trips (or lose 2 at home) we are on the BUBBLE. Its late January and we have no road wins and a whopping one Quad 1 win. Please, no more fantasies from the fanboys about a top 4 seed. Its not happening.

So all this happened during the game
Miller benching Hazard
Miller using TOs to early
Miller coaching a total dud
Manion foul trouble
Green's worst game by far
Not getting the ball to Nnaji
Awful officiating
Martin getting really hot for a while
Miller giving the momentum to asu before half
Missed FTs
All of this happened, most teams in the country would lose by double digits even with a big lead earlier. What happened to U of A on Saturday night? Lose by 1
It is sad and wrong to be giving up on the team and the coach at this time

Well Machina, except that ASU is a shitty team, and a loss is still a loss whether it's by 1 or 100. Remember ASU losing to St. Mary's by 40 points?
A little surprised you didn't bring up that home court advantage is usually a 3.5 point advantage, so UA technically won by 2.5 points.

If I know anything about Sean Miller it’s that he LOVES moral victories.
Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. We LOST. There’s no equivocation in Sean’s mind about that, and he wouldn’t expect us to excuse it with lame crap like, “well, even though everything went wrong we still only lost by one...”

Yes a loss is a loss but the point is so much when wrong for U of A on Saturday and it was only a one point loss. Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
I HATE AsuckU...that being said they will surprise quite a few teams moving on through the season...Remy Martin can be explosive and take over games and is almost impossible to guard...I really expect them to sweep the next few road trips and make the tournament.
People way underestimate senior level leadership in this years basketball climate...I think you can basically predict the distance a team will go based on the experience/talent of the point guard this year...
When Mannion sits (and our bench PG plays restrained) we absolutely lose momentum...and I noticed that the second half it was pretty much Dylan Smith guarding Remy all the time...Mannions lack of experience vs Remy should have been covered by Baker and Hazzard, instead they were sloppy...no way to win against asu with 18 turn overs I don't care who the team is...hell a bad team being handed the ball 18 times has the chance to throw up anywhere from 20-30 points depending on the percentage of shots made...
We will get better...but so will ASU and they are not a team to ignore when they get hot.

Do you think my W/L projection for the rest of the season is unreasonable?? Do you think we are going to start sweeping road trips?? Given that we haven't won a single road game this year I think my road split scenario is actually somewhat optimistic.

So you really don't have any factual basis for your statement. In case you didn't know the NCAA tournament committee already looks at a large number of factors, including various ranking systems. And in 2019 the average 10 loss team with a poor Quad 1 record was a 9/10 seed.PHXCATS wrote:Records are only a portion of the equation. Look at Ken Pom. With a whole whopping 4 Q1 games remaining...3 on the road. Which, you know, Arizona has been terrific on the road so far this season and has shown promising signs of getting better.PHXCATS wrote:Holy shit, there are still at least 13 games left before the NCAA tournamentStatfreak77 wrote:Long time lurker around here, but I felt I had to respond to this post...PHXCATS wrote:U of A is #10 in NET. Houston in 2019: 6-4 in Q1 games, 4 wins on the road.
Texas Tech in 2019: 12-6 in Q1 games, 5 wins on the road.
Arizona in 2020: 1-4 in Q1 games, 0 wins on the road.
Holy shit, what a stupid comparison.
