You could be right as I forgot Cecil is coaching all DB's. Paopao does have Special Teams experience though.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 6:18 pmWe have three on field coach spots available. Doubt they hire a designated ST coach.
So far I am fairly optimistic with the hires on Offense. Not sure on Scottie Graham? Would assume he must be a very personable guy with possible recruiting ties despite not being a coach. So far I would give the offensive hires a B/B+. Defense, guess we will see?

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
Another former UCLA guy. Walker has some cult status at ucla for beating Carroll in the 13-9 game. Was great vs pro style offenses, torched by spread offenses. Great pickup as a corners guy though.

Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
I'm down with Brown as the DC. He obviously has a connection with Fisch and getting a former UM DC is not too shabby considering where AZ is starting from.
He is a NE guy so how he recruits - or delegates his recruiting will be interesting to watch. That's a concern I would think.

27 years old and I barely know Miami Vice other than the name and that it was a show. Didn't even know the character names.
Pretty sure a 17 year old will see that and be like "oh like the Heat's new jerseys!"

The majority of our recruits will think this is a reference to GTA, which should still resonate with them.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 11:06 pmThe Jamie Fox/Colin Ferrell movie? I looked on Google and I think you're both sort of correct. Rockstar offered a modified Vice City within GTA 5. GTA 5 is Los Santos, and Vice City's version isn't the original Vice City game, but just uses the Vice City layout.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 5:50 pmAgree to disagree, seeing as how I have seen it with my own eyes. It's official. One spot to go.
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
I'm really curious to see what Brown can do for our defense. He resume is impressive even though they conveniently left off 2020.
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
They show every year where the defense improved year-over-year or was very good....so no 2020.

Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
And that feels like the entire story in some ways.
We have Brown because his D declined so badly in 2020 he got fired. The question of whether 2020 was an aberration for him or the beginning of the end is pretty much the entire operative question for how we should feel about him.

I'm in the "beggars can't be choosy" camp quite frankly but god am I dying for a defense that actually tries to put pressure on the QB and get's some TFL's.

Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
Having a guy who was able to engineer the #1 defense in the country at BC I think bodes well for us. I can't imagine that their recruiting is that far above ours traditionally (ie - not Sumlin era).

Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
True Chi but the other factor is his ties were/have been in the Northeast (BC get's kids not wanting to go to Penn State and want to stay close to home) so hope there's a plan for recruiting hard in the West.
Let's see.
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
Brown was there 2013-2015.
Recruiting rank:
2013 - 86
2014 - 51
2015 - 60
Defense rank:
2013 - 92 (total) / 77 (scoring)
2014 - 11 (total) / 21 (scoring)
2015 - 1 (total) / 4 (scoring)

New analyst.
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
Who was HC at Boston College during that time? Steve Addazzio?
What we should be saying is that How would Brown fare with a defensive unit that has been remotely bad since 2012?
Sure his time at BC in 3 years is impressive but BC wasn't a world beater in those three season.
2013-7-6 with 92nd rank Total D/ 77th scoring D
2014- 7-6 with 11th rank Total D/21th scoring D
2015-3-9 with 1st rank Total D/ 4th scoring D
The is a PAC 12 is different style than Big ten.
Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
Yes, Steve Addazzio. Here's the point. BC went 21-29 in the three years before Addazzio and Brown got there. In the three years Brown was there he completely turned around the defense using talent on the same level as Arizona's. He did it by coaching them up not by recruiting better talent.cordera89 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 7:55 pm

Re: Assistant Coach Hotboard
I'm not sure the #1 D thing is all it's cracked up to be. BC was 3-9 that year and they ran a super slow paced game with an anemic offense.
They were bottom 10 in possessions on offense and 13th from the bottom on defensive possessions. That plus the other teams being conservative with almost constant leads is gonna influence things.
I think Brown is a solid X and O coach. I hope he hasn't lost his edge based on the last UM year. His stats at BC and UM are both helped a lot by both teams being very slow paced, ball control teams. I worry how he transitions to a team that will run a quicker, more pass heavy offense.
Again, I don't hate Brown and things could (Yates or Rhoads) be worse, but I'm not ready to be overly optimistic, either.

Yeah, but they were only 17-21 the years Addazio and Brown were there, and the last year was 3-9. Obviously not all that is on Brown, but...I'm just not ready to be too optimistic.azgreg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 8:14 pmYes, Steve Addazzio. Here's the point.
