Re: Official Bracketology Thread
Our region doesn't really matter to me. But getting a #1 seed is a really big deal to me for this reason-
I think all of the 3 seeds are going to be very dangerous and I see a big drop off between the 3 and 4/5 seeds. 4s and 5s are going to be MUCH more likely to get upset this year (IMO) where the 3s are much more likely to make a serious run.

They're both likely out of the #4 seed line now that they're both Big ten champs. So out of our side of the bracket and will be dealt with by the #2 in our bracket.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 9:47 am You know we're either getting Wisconsin or Illinois in our region. It's happening.

A reminder for all of you who are waiting to book flights...a lot of airlines dropped their change fees during the pandemic, so if you choose correctly now then you may be better off than waiting until later. IF you are waiting to see the bracket, instead of waiting on us advancing from the first weekend.

And this year, according to Gasaway, it comes down to a mix of blue bloods and a few modern powers. The “Magic Eight” consists of: Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Gonzaga, Houston, Kansas, Kentucky and Jay Wright’s Villanova Wildcats.
Gonzaga is currently No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll at 26-3. The Bulldogs are led by second-team All-Americans Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Wildcats sit in the two spot at 28-3. They are followed by Baylor (26-5), No. 5 Kentucky (25-6), No. 6 Kansas (25-6), No. 7 Duke (26-5), No. 8 Villanova (23-7) and 18th-ranked Houston (26-5).

If we lose tomorrow which is Friday the NCAA takes injuries (Kerr) into account when making seeding decisions. If we don't win we will get screwed. That will be sad.

You mean like when the committee kept Cincinnati as the overall #1 seed when they lost Kenyon Martin for the tournament. They rewarded Cincinnati for its body of work, just like they will do for AZ.

Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. When Kenyon went out they dropped to a two seed in the south. Interesting thing was Loren Woods was hurt also and we remained a 1 seed because we won without him. To help your memory ""We talked about Cincinnati very early and came back to them a couple times," Craig Thompson, chairman of the selection committee, said of the decision to drop the Bearcats. "But when you lose a potential player of the year, that's going to affect your team."
The only thing that I agree with that you said is " just like they will do for AZ"
Expect us to drop if we don't win.

Arizona locked up a #1 seed when they beat Cal Saturday
Only thing these conference tournaments will factor in for us is in moving up the overall seed line. Right now we passed Baylor and are sitting behind only the Zags.

I stand corrected. That said I think we are locked in as a 1 seed even with a loss. Krissa has an ankle sprain and Martin broke his leg. Huge difference

Re: Official Bracketology Thread
I think Michigan losing Isaiah Livers last year in the first game of the conference tournament in a win, then losing the next game the next day is more comparable if Kerr is out for the year.
Michigan still kept their #1 seed even without him, who was the second leading scorer before the injury.

8/9 seeds very scary this year, especially with a potentially injured Kerr. All of these teams plus teams like TCU, Murray St, are capable of knocking out #1s. Even teams like Michigan St and Ohio St have had incredible highs despite playing like crap right now.

2021-22 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES FOR ESTABLISHING THE BRACKET
Sixteen levels are established (i.e., the seeds, 1 through
16) in the bracket that cross the four regions, permitting
evaluation of four teams simultaneously on the same
level. Teams on each seed line (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, etc.)
should be as equal as possible.
Each region is divided into quadrants with four levels in
each, permitting the evaluation of four different sections
within each region against the same sections in each of
the other regions.
The committee will assign all four teams in each bracket
group (seeds 1, 16, 8, 9), (4, 13, 5, 12), (2, 15, 7, 10), (3,
14, 6, 11) to the same first-/second-round site. There will
be two ”pods‟ at each first-/second-round site which may
feed into different regional sites.
Each of the first four teams selected from a
conference shall be placed in different regions if they
are seeded on the first four lines.
Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior
to the regional final if they played each other three or
more times during the regular season and conference
tournament.
Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior
to the regional semifinals if they played each other
twice during the regular season and conference
tournament.
Teams from the same conference may play each
other as early as the second round if they played no
more than once during the regular season and
conference tournament.
Any principle can be relaxed if two or more teams
from the same conference are among the last four atlarge seeded teams participating in the First Four.
To recognize the demonstrated quality of such teams,
the committee shall not place teams seeded on the
first four lines at a potential “home-crowd
disadvantage” in the first round.

Usually it's best to lose in conf tournament because it's really hard to win like 12-15+ games in a row if you haven't lost before the tournament. If you go into the tournament winning say 4+ in a row plus 3+ in the conf tournament and then 6 in the NCAA tournament, that's really hard to do. It usually means you're bound for a stinker of a game and if it happens in the tournament, well you're season is over
