Sure does, since streaming is the future. But pretty sure Robbins was adamant about having some sort of traditional viewing at least to start.
Although most people I know no longer have cable/satellite.

Re: Conference Realignment
Sounds like we'll be headed to the Big 12 if the deal is as crappy as the tweet makes it sound like.

This TV deal is going to be colossally bad and I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign on for it all in the name of academics.

So last day of June and no announcement. That really surprises me although being totally F’ed up is a conference staple

We should just all come to grips with the reality that we’ll be streaming on the new Home Shopping Network app or over cable via CSPAN3. Anything better will be a pleasant surprise.

SDSU just told the MW they aren’t leaving.
Re: Conference Realignment
When someone starts using terms like "Linear Concepts" I smell a smoke-screen. To me "Linear Concepts" means the deal stinks and someone is putting a lot of lipstick on the pig.

Re: Conference Realignment
I thought Linear Concepts meant that a traditional TV deal (cable/satellite) is in the works, and as Robbins has stated, a must deal.
See ads all the time for WNBA on the Ion channel. Is that where the PAC is headed?
MWC will probably pick up the PAC leftovers, esp. WSU and OSU.
Fisch, although not a decision maker, made it very clear in his interview that it's all about TV revenue.
For those, or the one, who thinks the Cats will stay in the PAC for lesser money better rethink that.
Take the sure thing.

A little more? It doubles from $17M to $34M. That ain’t a little.
Re: Conference Realignment
Sounds like the PAC12 Network is planning on surviving by acting as the producer of sports content for wherever a new PAC12 deal takes the conference.

Soooooo, we're gonna sign a fifteen year agreement with the Larry Scott cable and satellite company. I hear its cost structure is real reasonable and has efficient distribution all up and down the west coast region and especially across multiple time zones. Let's give it a try. What could go wrong.

How and why is it embarrassing? Isn’t hurting recruiting. Isn’t hurting anything else is it?
Because Scheer told you it is embarrassing you feel it is embarrassing? Because the Big 12 trolls say so?

Taking over a year to get the deal done isn't embarrassing in and of itself?

Re: Conference Realignment
There’s a difference between having an impact vs. being a total fucking embarrassment. I think that was Merkin’s point.
And you got to admit this whole PAC conference fiasco is embarrassing and makes us look like a 2nd rate league. You can bet the B1G, SEC and even the B12 are snickering at the conference in which the UofA currently resides.
Has it hurt us right now? No. But I it sure can impact our future in terms of keeping up with the Jones’.
Re: Conference Realignment
How embarrassing this situation ends up to be depends on the contract. If it's a decent deal, we'll hear it was worth the wait. And the Conference had to take its time to make sure it got things right. If the contract is crap, the shitshow will grow proportionately, and the PAC won't likely survive.

Re: Conference Realignment
It’s embarrassing. There’s no way around that. When SDSU blew leaving the Mountain West the consensus amongst sportswriters and pundits was that it made them a perfect fit for the PAC which is a joke of a conference at this point.
That’s the PAC’s brand like it or not. A league that continually catches its dick in its own zipper.

Re: Conference Realignment
Hard to deny that there was once a time when you felt very proud to be a member of the Pac-10/Pac-12. One of the big dogs, with some great academic institutions, and in some of the most spectacular parts of the country. And hard to deny that those feelings have been diminished...by the two biggest dogs walking away, and the weak sauce media/money situation. There have been bad decisions and empty promises for more than a decade. It now sounds like the presidents will all choose to hold it together and accept whatever money and exposure they get. It's unlikely, but maybe they've listened and learned a little bit from the experience. One aspect of that would be to make whatever becomes of the Pac-12 Network the equivalent of what the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC Networks do. That means you respond to viewing desires, with respect to availability and programming. And that means it's damn near exclusively football and men's basketball (even in the summer) in the afternoon and evening hours. From a fan perspective, the learning experience is that the sports media keyboard kings (Wilner, Scheer, Canzano, and the rest) copy each other, peddle rumors, claim inside knowledge, and do whatever it takes to maintain an audience. When things drag out over time, failed expectations from that effect causes frustration as much as anything else.

Re: Conference Realignment
Not sure if that's a response to me, after I already said pride in the conference has obviously been diminished by the various missteps, or if it's intended for previous posts. But being disappointed isn't the same as caring about any attempts at humor by rival fans on the internet. I used to travel to Canada, and the CBC "news" seemed to consist of worrying about what little the American media had to say about them. Of course, from our perspective, we don't think about them much (forest fires notwithstanding), and certainly don't particularly care very much when we do.
Re: Conference Realignment
It is all embarrassing. From the President’s absolutely turning a blind eye on Scott to not caring one bit about athletics.
They continue with a weak charter in not allowing the commissioner certain powers to speak and act in the benefit of the conference which is archaic.
Kliavkoff is a lap dog who has to gather info and report and then go do their bidding. I just don’t see how or why anyone wouldn’t see Joe embarrassing this is in todays fast changing landscape of college sports

Oh, I think he's as inept as you'd expect somebody hired by the Pac's presidents to be. I guess my distinction is that I don't see the connection between being irritated, annoyed, disgusted, or whatever words are suitable regarding somebody's performance, versus some supposed feeling of being personally humiliated or embarrassed by said performance. I attended an institution, and I root for the players on its teams. Can't say I've ever had any use for any administrative types at the university, conference, or NCAA levels.azcat49 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 10:30 am It is all embarrassing. Re: Conference Realignment
The definition of embarrassed is "feeling or showing a state of self-conscious confusion and distress." If anybody wants to walk down the street feeling self-conscious, confused, or in distress over the behavior of some sports administrators they have no control over, I don't think that's particularly healthy, but by all means go ahead. I haven't felt embarrassed by much of anything in my life for a hell of a long time, but the last time I did, it was because of something for which I was personally responsible.

Re: Conference Realignment
"Looking for four other schools" or "for other schools"?
Re: Conference Realignment
The future is not optimal but I don’t think it is bleak. As long as you have entry into the college football playoffs (and an easier one at that) it is good in my opinion.
If the conference changes its revenue sharing In football and basketball it will force teams to invest in both sports.
Would I take an offer from the B1G? In a heart beat I would but that’s not coming. Would I go to the Big 12? Like most, I will wait and see what this TV deal looks like
