And traded up for Chriss.
Re: 2016 NBA Draft
Interesting trade. My guess is I'd rather have Chriss than whoever they pick up at 13 and 28.UAEebs86 wrote:And traded up for Chriss.

Suns going for that all-Kentucky backcourt by drafting Tyler Ulis.

They should've stayed put and picked Ellenson at 13. Pick a stash away player at 28 and stereotypical Kentucky guard in the 2nd round.SCCats wrote:Interesting trade. My guess is I'd rather have Chriss than whoever they pick up at 13 and 28.UAEebs86 wrote:And traded up for Chriss.
I'm not a fan of the Suns draft at all personally.

Both require taking high upside talent.
I liked Dunn the best of who was available.
After, I liked Bender for upside, and Chriss for intrigue. They doubled down. If one hits and the other misses, so what. If they both miss, you suck all the same and get similar positions in better drafts next year and the year after.
Even if both succeed, they will need a bit of time, so their draft pick next year holds promise.
And Ulis is smart because he's good friends with Booker, and he's a Speedy Claxton type of undersized guard. Quick, smart, good vision, and has just enough skills to both you in short burts.
I'd give this draft a B+.
A if they had been able to trade Knight for an extra pick to select a wing to replace Bogdan.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
As usual you put it all into context. I'm just a believer of picking the best player possible and not picking Dunn pissed me off. I get the line of thought, take two high upside guys, if they work out awesome, if not then you're in this position again the next two years to improve more. I did like the Ullis pick more than the first two for the Booker connection and I think he's honestly the best actual point guard on the roster now, although he obviously won't start. We need to ship off Brandon Knight for a box of donuts or best offer ASAP.JMarkJohns wrote:Eh, there are two ways to improve...ChooChooCat wrote:They should've stayed put and picked Ellenson at 13. Re: 2016 NBA Draft
My idea draft was Dunn at 4, trade back in for Bender, and some sort of draft/stash wing in 2nd.
But this is probably as good as was likely considering the cluster of guards.
I had hoped Knight would be heading to Sacramento with 13/28 and the Suns get 8 and keep Bogdan.
That would have been perfect.

Amen on the Knight tidbit. No one wants him for that salary I'm sure.JMarkJohns wrote:My idea draft was Dunn at 4, trade back in for Bender, and some sort of draft/stash wing in 2nd.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
Butler is really good. The Wolves are loaded. The Bulls are just dumping at this point. Lavine and Dunn are young and they can get a very solid talent at #7. Hopefully Lauri doesn't have to go to that messed up organization, though.84Cat wrote:I don't watch the NBA like some here but I thought Butler was pretty good? WTF

Lavine and Wiggins weren't much on D, but Butler can be a very good defender. Rubio, Butler, Wiggins and KAT are 4/5 of a contender.MrBug708 wrote:Lavine and Wiggins can't play together

Allen was drafted? How great is that!. Another example of being patient and honoring the process.
Glad he got drafted ahead of Kobi and Chance. He and Sol Hill are two of my favorite cats

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
Eh, a huge part is the amount of depth in this draft. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say people in the second round were going 10-15 picks after where they would go in a normal class. Look at guys like Thomas Bryant too. This draft had a glut of talent, and a lot of the guys in the 30's and 40's would have been first rounders in a normal draft.SCCats wrote:They're recruiting the right kind of guys for the college game (particularly so in Bell and Brooks)84Cat wrote:Jordan Bell #38

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
So how much did it cost Ivan Rabb to go back to Berkley last year instead of going lottery after his freshman year? Coach Martin, where are you?

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
He choose Cal for reasons, mostly because it was close. Kids make bad decisions in the schools they play for and find themselves out of basketball soon enough
Re: 2016 NBA Draft
Agreed but wasn't he projected as a lottery guy after his freshman year. If true he cost himself a ton of dough and I thought it was Martin who sold him on having more around him so it would improve his stock?

Re: 2016 NBA Draft
Martin is a snake oil salesman who bilks you out of money "because you have to want to be healthy for your family" (stay close to home) and "next bottle will strengthen the previous bottle" (come back for second year) and before you know it you're worse for ever listening and he's gone to his next victim'd town (program).azcat49 wrote:Agreed but wasn't he projected as a lottery guy after his freshman year. Re: 2016 NBA Draft
It's why I always add notes of caution about the rhetoric about returning. It is not the surefire ticket to better pro prospects that people make it out to be. Rabb was not bad in his sophomore year, but the outcome killed his draft stock.azcat49 wrote:Agreed but wasn't he projected as a lottery guy after his freshman year. Re: 2016 NBA Draft
I watched Cal probably five times last year and he wasn't properly used in any of them.
